16/9/01 WIGAN ST. CUTHBERTS (Home).
A dream start to the season for the RANGERS. A solid performance against a resolute Cuthberts side
"Tank" Kinney opened the scoring for the home side, with a typical prop forwards try, smashing through the Cuthberts defence from close in. RANGERS second try was scored by Rich Lowe from the acting half position with a lovely change of direction that had the Wiganers defence grabbing at thin air.
Both tries were converted by Andrew Sarsfield to give the RANGERS a 12-0 half time lead.
The second half was much the same as the first, with the RANGERS doing most of the attacking,
Andy Holden scoring in the left corner after a fine pass from Chris Mugan, "Tank" got his second try in the same style as his first, Andrew Sarsfield converted one of the second half tries to seal a fine victory for the RANGERS.
On defence Ross Bradley (9, tackles), Jacob Kinney (6) and Adam Thomason (6) led the way.
RESULT WON 22-0
23/9/01 WIGAN ST. JUDES (Away).
RANGERS good start to the season continued with a very hard fought victory against a good ST. JUDES team. Judes opened the scoring with a try on the RANGERS  exposed right flank after an excellent kick out to that wing the try was converted to give JUDES a 6-0 lead. RANGERS hit back with another brilliant individual try from "Tricky Dicky" Lowe, scoring from short range from the acting half. RANGERS then took the lead with a brilliant try from Chris Mugan running in from 70 yards. JUDES not to be denied hit back again, hitting RANGERS exposed right flank once again the conversion was missed giving RANGERS  a 12-10 half time lead. The second half was played in the same hard, but fair way as the first half , with RANGERS stretching the lead with two well taken tries one off "Tank" Kinney, and Chris Mugan touching down in the corner for his second, Andrew Sarsfiel converted one to take his total on the day to three.
On defence Ross Bradley led the way with 12 tackles with Chris Mugan(10) and Rob Wilcock(10) also making a major contribution.
RESULT WON 10-22
30/9/01  LEIGH EAST (Home).
The least said about this game the better, it bore no resemblance to Rugby League what so ever.
The Rangers forwards gave the football more to the opposition than they did to their own backs, and spent all day running into Leigh East`s forwards it was like watching a re-run of "Its a Knockout", with
players just running in to one another, with no attempt to play rugby.
"Tank" Kinney and Chris Mugan scored tries for RANGERS both converted by Andrew Sarsfield.
This was a game RANGERS were lucky to win, and the sooner the forwards  are introduced to the rest of the team, and play as they should the better.
Special mention should be made of Ben Cooke and Tom Dawson who were superb
RESULT WON 12-10
7/10/01 RYLANDS (Away).
Normal service has been resumed. RANGERS looked like they wanted to do what they do best (play Rugby). The first try was scored by "Tank" Kinney for Rangers bursting through on short yardage.
Next came an extraordinary scene were the referee signalled that a RYLANDS  player had been held up in the in-goal area, however after consulting the home team side line awarded a try to their team, it  was converted to give RYLANDS a half time lead of 6-4
In the second half RANGERS replied in brilliant style with Andrew Sarsfield charging down a RYLANDS kick and Chris Mugan hacking the ball forward on the 20 yard line and kicking the ball a second time before picking it up and converting a brilliant try, Andrew Sarsfield converted to give RANGERS a 10-6 lead. After both teams converted penalties RANGERS ran out worthy winners.
On defence Ross Bradley led the way with 18 tackles.
RESULT WON 12-14
14/10/ 01 THATTO HEATH (Home)
A very workmanlike performance from the RANGERS against a big powerful St Helens outfit.
"Tank" Kinney opened the scoring for the home side with a well taken try down the left wing after a good pass from Adam Owens. RANGERS extended their lead after a brilliant solo try from Chris Mugan sprinting  fully 70 yards to touch down under the posts, Andrew Sarsield coverted."Tank" barged over on short yardage to give the RANGERS a 14-0 half time lead.
In the second half Adam Thomason got in on the act by dropping on a Chris Mugan kick to pile on the agony for the visitors. Then  followed an Andrew Sarsfield drop goal and two tries from Adam Ryan one were he did well to stay on the pitch and one were the ball was brilliantly batted down by Andy Holden after an excellent Andrew Sarsfield kick to finish a good days work.
On defence Ross Bradley came out on top with 9 tackles and Chris Mugan with 6.
RESULT WON 29-0
21/10/01 WIDNES St. MARIES (Away)
All good things come to an end, RANGERS lost their unbeaten run, to a hard tackling Widnes outfit.
To be honest RANGERS probably lost this game in the first half, the players thoughts still seemed to be on the M62. Maries had a 12 point lead before the RANGERS knew what had hit them. Tank Kinney scoring from close in to add a bit of respectability at half time.
The second half started like the first with Maries scoring an early converted try, to put the game beyond
RANGERS who never looked like they had the will to get back into  the game.
Tank Kinney added one last try for the RANGERS both tries were unconverted.
On defence Chris Mugan (11), Ross Bradley(8)  and Andy Holden (8) led the way.
RESULT LOST 18-8
28/10/01  WATERHEAD (Away)
Normal service has been resumed ! RANGERS got back to winning ways with a workmanlike
performance against a Waterhead side, that never gave up.
A RANGERS side that was badly depleated by injuries opened the scoring with Ross Bradley going over in the left corner andChris Badley converting. Next came Adam Owens with a well taken try, also touching down in the left corner, Tank Kinney kept the points  adding up with a drop goal and Ross scored his second try to give RANGERS a 15-0 half time lead.
In the second half Waterhead tightened up and kept the RANGERS to two tries one of which was the best try of the game with Damian Dunn collecting the ball in his own half to sprint in from 60 yards.
Chris Mugan scored the last of the RANGERS tries going in down the right wing.
However Waterheads never say die attitude,  paid off,  when they  got the final try of the game
and converted it.
RESULT WON 6-23

4/11/01  WIGAN St. PATRICKS (Home)
For the neutral, this was a very good game of Rugby League, arguably the two best teams in this league.
PAT`S took the lead when a well placed kick was touched down in the RANGERS left corner.
There followed a period when both teams struggled to get the upper hand, Rob Wilcock getting a well
taken drop goal to reduce the deficit to 1-4 at half time.
In the second half RANGERS were on top, but let themselves down by giving silly penalties away.
Half way through the half, RANGERS stripped the ball illegally and from the resulting penalty the momentum of the game swung to the Wiganers for the rest of the game.
Pat`s scored a further try to finish the game as victors.
To put it in a nutshell, it was a game between a good team and a team of good individuals, and a good
team will win every time. Until RANGERS play as a team we will see this result again and again.
RESULT LOST 1-8
11/11/01 BLACKBROOK (Away)
This should have been a good game, between the 3rd placed team (RANGERS) and the 4th placed team.
Sadly is was not to be, RANGERS put plenty of effort in,especially on defence but that bit of sparkle
seemed to be missing. Tank Kinney opened the scoring for the RANGERS crashing in under the posts
on short yardage, Rob Wilcock converted the try. 0-6 to the RANGERS.
RANGERS extended their lead when on one of the few occasions they actually passed the ball along the attacking line, Ross Bradley passing to Damian Dunn for a well worked try.
RANGERS finished the half on a high when Ross Bradley touched down after a good run that had started in his own half to give RANGERS a 0-14 lead at half time.
The second half was dour, with BLACKBROOK making a lot of mistakes and RANGERS not making them
pay, they were just content to keep running at the defensive wall and not do anything constructive .
RESULT WON 0-14
18/11/01 WIGAN ST. CUTHBERTS (Away)
RANGERS carried on their winning ways with a fine away victory away in Wigan.
It was a pleasant surprise to see RANGERS actually trying to play Rugby as a team, instead of the one man Rugby they normally play. It showed with their first try when a well worked passing move finished with Adam Ryan touching down on the left wing, Andrew Sarsfield converted. Cuthberts hit back with a very similar move, when after a good passing move they touched down on their left wing.
Chris Mugan scored a solo try to gine RANGERS a 4-10 half time lead.
In the second half RANGERS continued to dominate with Damian Dunn adding a further try that was converted to seal the game for RANGERS.
RESULT WON 4-16
25/11/01 WIGAN ST. JUDES (Home)
8 Tries +1 Conversion
RESULT WON 34-0

14/12/01 THATTO HEATH (Away)
A brilliant display from the RANGERS away from home, the two week layoff did the boys a power of good.
Andrew Sarsfield opened the scoring with a well taken penalty to give the RANGERS a 0-2 lead.
"Tank" Kinney getting his customary try from close range extending the lead, followed by Chris Mugan
getting his trade mark 70 yarder, Andrew Sarsfield converted both tries to give the RANGERS a 0-14
half time lead.
The second half was played in the same vein with RANGERS continuing to dominate further extending
their lead, with tries from Rich Lowe and Chris Mugan getting his second. Andew Sarsfield rounding off
a perfect day kicking one penalty and converting all four tries.
Man of the match? THE REFEREE
Who had to put up with some terrible verbal abuse from the HOME team parents.
RESULT WON 0-26
13/1/02 WATERHEAD (Home)
RESULT WON 52-0
20/1/02 WIGAN St. PATRICKS (Away)
Third placed RANGERS away, to top of the table Pat`s must have been match of the day at this
age group, and neither team let us down.
From the very first play RANGERS were in the Wiganers faces and they did not like it, RANGERS
were`nt in the mood to even let them get out of their own half. With RANGERS having all the possesion
something had to give and it did, the Pat`s defence.
"Tank" Kinney charged straight up the middle from 10 yards to open the scoring for the RANGERS
Rob Wilcock converted to make it 0-6. Next came Damian Dunn after running across the face of
the Pat`s defence, cut in for a fine try, Rob Wilcock again converting to make it 0-12.
Chris Mugan had what looked like a good try called back for a knock on that would have given
the RANGERS  an unassailable lead. But Pat`s did`nt give up and hit back with a try and conversion
of their own, to give a half time score of 6-12.
The second half was played with the same spirit and passion as the first.
Rob Wilcock extending RANGERS lead with a penalty 6-14, Pat`s came back with another converted try
12-14, then Rob Wilcock sealed it with a drop goal.
A good win for RANGERS  that will take them to joint top of the league.
RESULT WON 12-15

17/2/02 CHORLEY PANTHERS (N.W.C.CUP, HOME)
