      RESULTS FOR SEASON 2000/01
10/9/00. Home. Leigh East Hawks. As befits a Leigh "Derby" a good entertaining game. Two Westhoughton boys bagging the points for the Rangers. Andy Holden scoring two tries and Chris (Nozzer) Norris getting the other,no conversions .
RESULT WON 12-0
17/9/00. Home. Ashton Bears. Good game , RANGERS ,starting off like a house on fire with a try from Andy Holden and one from Scott Mather. Sadly the kicking once again letting RANGERS down, with ASHTON finishing strongly with two tries and one conversion
RESULT LOST 8-10
24/9/00. Away. Blackbrook Royals. Game played in torrential rain which did not help both sets of players, but both teams put in 100% in spite of the conditions. Andy Holden getting RANGERS only try with Andrew Sarsfield converting.
RESULT LOST 16-6
1/10/00.Away . Crosfields. RANGERS , arriving in Warrington with a lot of players injured or missing (no recognised scrum half). But they took the game to their opponents and played brilliantly. RANGERS started as they meant to go on with a try in the left hand corner from Andy Holden after a superb feed from Chris Norris. Andy Holden went on to get his hat trick with further tries from Chris Jones and Liam Nixon.
RESULT WON 6-20
22/10/00. Away. Ashton Bears (N.W.Counties Cup). A very difficult fixture for  the RANGERS facing a team they had already lost to at home, and with SIX first team regulars missing. On a very heavy pitch the Rangers attacked from the first whistle which resulted in Chris (Spud) Badley scoring an excellent try to open up his account for the season. This was followed by Andy Holden touching down from 50 yards after handing off two would be tackles and out running the Ashton defence to touch down under the posts for his eigth try in five games .The conversion was a formallity for a kicker of Scottt Mather`s  talent.Ashton finished strongly with a late try,but fierce defence from the RANGERS won the day. EVERY player, played  like a hero.
RESULT WON 10-4.
12/11/00. Away. St Judes (N.W. Counties Cup). Another very difficult cup draw for the RANGERS  facing a good team on their own ground.
From the kick off both sets of forwards tore into each other with RANGERS scoring first,Chris Norris standing up in the tackle off loaded to his fellow prop , Scott Mather  who managed to touch down in heavy traffic, the two pointer failed.
Judes soon  hit back with a try of their own, their two pointer failed.
Back came RANGERS with Adam Thomason scoring a fine try "scooting" in from five yards, the kick attempt failed. Just before half time Judes took advantage of an offside penlty to score a good try , and convert it to give the Wigan side a half time lead of 10-8.
In the second half RANGERS stepped up the pace with another try from Adam Thomason andone from Chris Norris, both kick attempts failed.
Judes hit back with another try but missed the kick to leave the result in doubt right up to the final whistle. A brilliant win for RANGERS with the forwards leading the way the standout being Matt Wilcock who put in a faultless performance.
RESULT WON  16-14.
ON MONDAY THE 26th OUR ASSISTANT COACH, DAVE LOWE HAS RESIGNED FOR PERSONAL REASONS.
HE HAS BEEN INVOLVED WITH THIS TEAM FOR THREE SEASONS, AND HAS PUT A LOT OF HARD WORK INTO MAKING THIS TEAM, THE TEAM  THAT THEY ARE TODAY.
HE LEAVES WITH THE GRATITUDE OF ALL THE PLAYERS AND THEIR PARENTS
3/12/00. Home. Royton Tigers. At last! RANGERS finally get to play a game. The first one in three weeks, and it showed. In a game were RANGERS could not put a sequence of more than three passes together they needed this run out. Ross Bradley opened both his, and Rangers account early in the game. Andrew Sarsfield, returning from injury, scored two tries and kicked three goals. Scott "The Rock" Mather scored a hat- trick  of tries, the third one being the best of the game, breaking through the Royton defence and sprinting in from 35 yards.
Rangers defence held firm, keeping the Tigers out all morning with the standout tacklers being,  Adam  Thomason (15), Scott Mather (11), Ross Bradley (10) and Rich Lowe(10).
RESULT WON 30-0

10/12/00. Home. Parkside Golborne. (BARLA  Cup 1/4 Final).
We`re out ! RANGERS  lost this very close fought cup match to an equally commited team from Golborne. The RANGERS took the lead with just 5 minutes to go with a well taken try from Andrew Sarsfield  but sadly the conversion miss was to prove very costly.
Within 2 minutes of the kick off following a couple of RANGERS mistakes Golborne scored a try followed by a brilliant conversion to hand the tie to the away side.
It was a sad end to RANGERS best cup run, they had tackled their hearts out all day with Ross Bradley, Andy Holden and Rich Lowe leading the tackle count. Sadly RANGERS attack did not match their defence, with  poor passing and ball distribution letting them down.
RESULT LOST4-6
7/1/01. AWAY. WIDNES MOORFIELD.
For the first time this season RANGERS fielded a more or less full strength side, against a spirited WIDNES side. Rangers attack played well throughout the game running in  eight tries , with Chris Mugan scoring twice and "Spud" Badley, Andy Holden,
Chris Norris, Adam Ryan, Andy Sarsfield and Rob Wilcock also scoring, with Andy Sarsfield converting three of the tries. The best try of the game was scored  by Martin Sutton the Widnes number 10 who scored after outpacing the Rangers defence with a 60 yard sprint before finally handing off the fullback to score a fine try. Top tacklers for Rangers were Chris Norris and Adam Thomason with nine tackles each.
BRING ON THE BEARS!
RESULT WON 38-4
10/2/01.HOME ASHTON BEARS (N.W.C.Cup).
At long last we managed to get this cup game on in spite of the recent weather.
As in our previous two encounters this season another close game between two evenly matched teams, that was reflected in a 0-0 half-time scoreline.
The deadlock was broken in the second half when Chris Norris latched onto a superb kick from Andrew Sarsfield to beat the full back and touchdown under the posts (Andrew Sarsfield converting). Ashton hit back with a brilliant try from Chris Rothwell after leaving the Rangers defence flat footed the try was converted and at the end of normal time the scores were tied at 6-6
Into extra time and the "Golden Point" rule was invoked, enter Chris Mugan with a well judged interception 3 minutes into extra time, game over Rangers are in the next round. A hard fought victory for Rangers with Andy Holden,Chris Mugan,
Chris Norris,Adam Owens and Adam Ryan leading the tackle count.
RESULT WON 10-6
On the same day that Saints beat Wigan 22-8 we must be in HEAVEN !
18/2/01.HOME RYLANDS SHARKS  (N.W.C.Cup).
Rangers lost this cup match against a good Rylands team because they could not do the basics right (tackles). Rangers started off very well ,and had the chances of scoring two early tries but were denied by excellent Rylands defence.Rylands then took an 8-0 lead into halftime with two well taken tries. With just 3 minutes on the clock Adam Ryan gave Rangers hope, scoring an excellent try down the left wing , but Rangers hopes were dashed when Rylands hit back with a third try which was converted to put the game beyond  any hope of winning.
Two Rangers led the way on defence with Ross Bradley and Rob Wilcock both making 11 tackles
RESULT LOST 4-14
11/3/01.HOME. INCE St. WILLIAMS
A very good close game, involving two evenly matched teams.
RANGERS taking an early lead when Chris Jones touched down an Andrew Sarsfield  chip kick over the INCE defence Andrew Sarsfield converted. Adam Thomason followed up with a fine try to give the RANGERS a 10-0 lead, Ince hit back with a converted try to give a half time score of 10-6. INCE scored first in the second half to draw level at 10-10
the game could have gone either way when Andy Holden touched down in heavy traffic in the corner to give RANGERS a hard won victory.
On defence Ross Bradley(16) Adam Thomason(10) and Chris Mugan(9) were the top tacklers.
RESULT WON 14-10
14/3/01. AWAY. WESTHOUGHTON LIONS.
A very poor display from the RANGERS against a depleted LIONS.
Too many of the RANGERS are playing for themselves and not the team. The only positive in this boring affair were the seven tries that RANGERS ran in.
The try scorers were Andrew Sarsfield (2), Ross Bradley, Andy Holden,Rich Lowe,
Adam Ryan and Rob Wilcock. Andrew Sarsfield kicked two goals and Ross Bradley scored with his only attempt.
On defence Rob Wilcock led the way with 11 tackles followed by Ross Bradley and Chris Mugan with 10 each. Jacob Kinney made a creditable seven on his debut.
RESULT WON 6-34
25/3/01.HOME. WATERHEAD.
A much improved performance on last weeks display, with RANGERS actually passing the ball to each other.Ross Bradley opened the scoring for RANGERS with his first of three tries WATERHEAD hit back with an excellent try after capitalising on a mistake on the halfway line, that gave them a 6-4 lead. Andy Holden then touched down in the left hand  corner after a fine pass from Jason O`Brien, to restore RANGERS lead, 8-6 at half time.
In the second half RANGERS attack stepped up a gear and ran in another FOUR tries from Adam Owens and Adam Ryan with Ross Bradleys other TWO tries
Of the SEVEN tries only ONE was converted.
On defence Chris Mugan(11), Rob Wilcock(10) and Ross Bradley (9) led the way.
with Ben Cooke also putting in an excellent performance.
RESULT WON 26-6
30/3/01. AWAY. RYLANDS SHARKS.
After the WESTHOUGHTON  game we said,"things can only get better".Well they have!
RANGERS were brilliant, and really played like a team, ball distribution, passing, tackling and kicking were all first class, against a very good RYLANDS team, that had already put us out of the cup!
Damian Dunn set RANGERS stall out early in the game, with a brilliant solo try, after breaking through the SHARKS defence ran in under the posts from 60 yards, Andrew Sarsfield converted the try.
Rangers led 0-6 at the half.
In the second half the SHARKS put RANGERS under sustained pressure but could not capitalise on their possesion. RANGERS went further ahead when Adam Thomason, following up, a good down field kick off Andrew Sarsfield reacted brilliantly to take in a SHARKS knock on and drop in, the in goal, Andrew Sarsfield converted the try.
On defence the whole team tackled their hearts out with Jacob Kinney and Adam Thomason both making 14 tackles, followed closely by Ross Bradley, Andy Holden, Chris Mugan and Rob Wilcock all making 10 tackles.
EVERY player was a credit to his CLUB, his COACHES and his PARENTS.
Roll on St.Pats.
RESULT WON 0-12
1/4/01. AWAY.  WIGAN St. PATRICKS.
After the Lord Mayor`s show ! A jaded looking RANGERS side just did not do themselves justice.
They were given a lesson in how to tackle by the Wigan side, and never really got going.
Down 12-0 at half time, St Pat`s added a further try in the second half to seal their victory.
On defence Ross Bradley led the way with 13 tackles followed by Andy Holden and Rob Wilcock with 9 tackles each ,Matt Wilcock was next with 7 tackles.
RESULT LOST 16-0
8/4/01. HOME. OLDHAM St. ANNES.
RANGERS started off well with some good movement and passing along the line.
Chris Badley opened the scoring for RANGERS, when he caught a kick off Andrew Sarsfield`s to score a try in the right  corner. This was followed by two  more tries for RANGERS , one off Ross Bradley after a good passing move, and one off Adam Thomason scoring from close range in heavy traffic Andrew Sarsfield converted one of the tries to give RANGERS a half time lead of 14-0. In the second half RANGERS never got going and they paid the price, letting in St. Annes for two tries to make it a closer game than it should have been.
On defence Ross Bradley (19), Rob Wilcock (17) and Adam Thomason (10), led the way.
RESULT WON 14-8
22/4/01. AWAY. PILKINGTON RECS.
A good game between two good teams resulted in an entertaining game.
Pilks capitalising on a RANGERS mistake, in the in goal area to score a try very early in the game and to convert it to give them a 6-0 lead. RANGERS hit back for Adam Thomason to score a fine try in Pilks left corner. Before the half time whistle Pilks hit back again with a good try, the Pilks player brushing aside two RANGERS defenders and touching down in RANGERS right corner to give the home side a 12-6 half time lead.
In the second half Chris Mugan touched down for RANGERS for a well taken try to put RANGERS within two points. The next try all started from a Jacob Kinney tackle that was so hard the Pilks player spilled the ball. After some good movement all across the pitch Andy Holden touched down in the left corner. The result was finally put beyond question when Jacob Kinney crashed over for a typical "Prop`s" try Andrew Sarsfield converted to seal the victory.
On defence Ross Bradley (13), Rob Wilcock (10) and Tom Dawson (7) were top tacklers
RESULT WON 12-20
27/4/01. ORRELL St. JAMES (Played at Twist Lane, Leigh)
A match that RANGERS never looked like losing, Captain Adam Thomason showing his team how it`s done with a good try in the right hand corner "early doors".Then Jacob Kinney scored another from close range to pile on the agony for the Wiganers Andrew Sarsfield converted both tries,  to give the RANGERS  a half time lead of 12-0.
The second half continued in much the same vein with RANGERS on top but never actually running away with the game.Andy Holden scored the third try in the left hand cornr after a superb one handed pass off "Spud" Badley, the victory was assured when Chris Mugan touched down under the posts for a well taken try, Andrew Sarsfield converted to seal a good win.
On defence Ross Bradley (12) and Chris Mugan (11) led the way.
RESULT WON 0-22
