Match reports for matches played 16th October 2004 Round 4 ______________________________________________________________________________________ Under 16 V Glenbrook/Blaxland We lost the toss and had to field, Our opening bowlers Steve and Shane bowled very well and after 9 overs they were 3 for 25 (2 wickets to steve and 1 to Shane) then a couple of good partnerships by Glenbrook took their score to 127 for 5 our spiners came in for a bit of stick and and at the end of time we had managed to bowl 38 overs and the final score was 180 for 7 Generally good bowling all round with Steve picking up 3 wickets for 24 and wickets to Shane, Robert,Adam and Cameron. This was rather a big total to chase our openers Michael and Josh put on 57 before Michael was bowled for 24 , Steve was out the same over without scoring But the Shannon joined Josh and an exiting and fast parnership 0f 76 in only 7 overs and our score raced to be 133 for 3 before JOsh was caught for a very good 53 runs , Daniel and Adam went quickly ( 146 for 5) Shannon was still slogging away and another parnership with Shane of 22 before Shannon was bowled with a top score of 71 WELL DONE ,we were 175 for 7 when time ran out at 12.30 pm and on a countback we won the match as Glenbrook were only 165 for 6 at the corresponding over Well done boys 3 wins from 4 and a nice rest for the next couple of weeks ______________________________________________________________________________________ Under 14 /2 V Springwood (McGrath) Today Springwood won the toss and sent us into bat at Shepherd Park, which had a new pitch laid this week. The pitch was diabolical. Springwood had us 5 for 19 before Mathew and Aaron put on 23 then Jacb and Reece 29 to take us to 95. We soon had Springwood 5 for 13 before a 46 run partnership gave Springwood hope. Robert took a great caught and bowled to end the partnership, then Reece took 2 for 1 including a caught and bowled that left Brian on his back. Next time call louder!! Another great performance with the ball & in the field with catched to Bradley,Jarrod and Mathew 4 from 4 boys WELL DONE ! ______________________________________________________________________________________ Under 11 V Penrith R.S.L. Today we played our game on our home ground (Monfarville) Penrith won the toss and batted first. Today's captain Aakash led the way with some fine bowling. He was well supported by Arun,Mathew and Shir. Unfortunately our bowlers were let down with 5 dropped catches in the first session. Things did improve after drinks with 2 catches to Noah and 1 to Mitchell. In the end we restricted Penrith to 5 for 129 off 40 overs )yes 40 overs well done boys) Our batting was led by a 55 run partnership between Brent and Arun. They were well supported by Noah and Daniel. In the end we scored the required runs after only 25 overs Special thanks to Jayden Stevens for filling in today _____________________________________________________________________________________ Round 5 played the 23rd and 30th October 2004 _____________________________________________________________________________________ Under 16 had a bye this round ______________________________________________________________________________________ Under 14/2 V Glenmore Park The first week was washed out so we played yet another one day game, Glenmore Park won the toss and Batted. After an early breakthrough Glenmore put on a 115 stand. We fought back with 2 wickets to Zac & Aaron with Reece getting their top scorer, Glenmore finished with 178. Our batting was in trouble with 6 wickets for 42 before Jarrod & Mathew stopped the rot with a 76 run partnership, Jarrod & Zac put on 22. Unfortunately this was not enough and we lost by 38 runs. Our first loss for the season but a good effort considering we only had 9 players. Congratulations to Mathew, his score of 27 eclipses his brother Jason's best of 22. Bragging rights for you Mathew and better to come _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Under 13/2 V Glenmore Park We must have been one of the few teams who were able to play last week, The ground was quite wet ,but playable around the wicket area. It was very frustrating to see the ball pull up just short of the boundary (the wettest part of the field) on numerous occasions. On a dry day who knows how many 50's would have been posted. Our score of 192 from 60 overs was a gtear effort. We arrived at Monfarville Park for our second day and apart from the ground being dry, it had also been mowed. A complete turnaround in conditions from the preceding week. We started our bowling well with a wicket in the second over and 5 out in the 14th over. The thought of an outright victory was in our minds, however it took longer than anticipated to wrap up the tail. We had them all out in the 36th over , leaving just over an hour of scheduled play left , so we finished the game a little early. On the whole an enjoyable two days of cricket with a good result ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Under 11 V Glenbrook/Blaxland Today we won the toss on a wet outfield and asked Glenbrook/Blaxland to bat (good toss to win Joel) All our bowlers bowled well today and we bowled our opposition out for 104 off 61 overs. Also great to see 7 catches held today. On the second day we found the going tough against a very committed opposition. We lost wickets quickly until a fine partnership between Brent and Shir took us to within 3 runs from a win. Then we lost 3 wickets in 1 over with only 1 wicket remaining. We then saw Riley and Brent steady the innings to see us home. Not the best batting today but still a Win is a Win _____________________________________________________________________________________ Round 6 played 6th and 13th of November 2004 ______________________________________________________________________________________ Under 16 V Penrith R.S.L. Playing on the very unpredictable pitch of Shepherd 2 we won the toss and decided to bat, a couple of LBW decisions and we were 4 for 14, things did not get better and we were 7 for 58 but some very good batting from the lower order batsmen we managed to struggle to be all out for 142. A 9th wicket stand of 25 between Adam and Srihari and a last wicket stand of 42 between Srihari and Daniel were the highlights of the innings Srihari was 35 not out and Daniel scored 26 runs Peter added a very handy 21 runs. The opposition were even talking of an outright untill they went onto the pitch and with only two overs to be bowled that day they were 3 for 3. The following week and we once again got amonst the wickets, at one stage they were 8 for 24, a bit of a fightback saw them struggle to be 62 all out. We sent them back in to try and get an outright but towards the end with no chance of an outright we called it a day at 3 for 86 Outstanding bowling figures by Steve Donlan 4 for 9 and 2 for 11 and Robert Matherson 4 for 15 ______________________________________________________________________________________ Under 14 had a bye and played a friendly match with Glenbrook/Blaxland _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Under 13 Division 2 V Emu Plains The tem performed well and the outright win was well deserved, there were some excellent individual performances that nedd mention, The best catch that I have senn so far as a coach was taken by Chris Mills. It seemed an eternity before we all got our jaws off the ground after witnessing such a feat. On the whole the catching was a big improvement in our game. Batting was good , Cameron and Shehan again got amongst the runs with Cameron falling short of his 50 by 5 runs. Mathew also backed up well and is a big improver in the batting dept. We had some great performances in the bowling with Blake, Shehan and Sean each getting 3 wickets in an innings. On the lighter side it was quite funny to see the look on Nathan's face when a fine edge catch appeared in his hands, the rest of the team were equally amazed, it took him 3 overs to settle down from the exitement. It's a nice feeling to win and an even nicer feling to see the boys enjoying themselves ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Under 11 V Colyton St Clair Today we batted 1st at Peppertree and were all out for 212 in the 58th over. Congratulations to Brent today for a great 100 not out, this included a 96 run partnership with Mitchell. With brent still requiring 8 runs and our last batsman Aakash in the middle things were not looking good for Brent but with some solid defence and great running we saw our first 100 by any one player. We then bowled the next week on a wind blown park. We saw 2 early wickets fall but a 88 run partnership pushed our boys to the limit, in the end some great bowling by Brent, Daniel., Riely and D.J. tok the last 8 wickets for 47 runs to give us a 47 run win. Great keeping today by Mitchell and Mat, with some excellent fielding by Shiv,Noah,Vickrom and Joel. Great win today against a strong team _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Round 7 played the 20th and 27th November 2004 _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Under 11 V Glenmore Park Today we won the toss at Kingswood and our captian Mat sent Glenmore Park in to bat on a wet outfield. Our opening bowlers Brent bowled well but with no luck, we then saw Daniel take 4 quick wickets and with 1 wicket to Mat we saw our opposition in trouble at drinks. We then saw D.J. and Shiv wrap up the opposition taking 1 wicket each after some lusty hitting by Glenmore Park. We comenced our chase of 76 runs and were in trouble at 5 for 36. Wethen saw Daniel, D.J. and Mitchell steady the innings to see us 6 for 86 at the end of the day. We continued to bat on the second day and were all out for 106. We then had Glenmore Park 4 for 19 but some steady batting ended our chance for an outright win Today's highlights were 2 great catches to Brent and Rielly with 2 for 4 ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Under 13/2 V Cranebrook What an incredible contrast in days. Last Saturday was so cold we almost froze and today we fried. Both teams performed well below par with concentration being a big factor in the low scores. Our small score of 74 was always going to be hard to defend and Cranebrook ended up on top in the first innings by 48 runs. I hope we have played our worst game now and look forward to a big improvement next week. Some good bowling and batting performances need mention however. Steve Cannon and Blake both taking 3 wickets in an innings and Matt backing up with 2 wickets. Steve,Shehan and Matt all batted reasonably in what I can only look back on as a lack lustre game. However we have all survived to fight another day ________________________________________________________________________________________________________- Under 14/2 V Henry Lawson We won the toss and sent Henry Lawson into bat. We kept Henry Lawson to a low start and after 7 overs had them 1 for 10, by the 10th over we had them 3 for 14. They then started to put a few runs on and then Robert took 2 quick wickets and we had them 5 for 47 in the 23rd over. They then statred to put runs on quickly, our fielding let us down until Jacob and Robert took a wicket and Mathew taking 3 wickets to have them all out for 154. We started to bat and our first partnership between Jacob and Kyle of 49 then a couple of quick wickets saw us 4 for 80 off 22 overs. Aaron and Robert then put on a 97 run partnership saw us 5 for 179 . We went on to bat to allow Aaron to get his 50, Well done Aaron ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________
