Tockwogh's Sailing Program
Because of Tockwogh's location and the amount of waterfront property owned by the camp, we have one of the largest waterfronts in the country. Sailing is of course one of our more popular activities.
At our main camp we offer a variety of classes on different boats. For our beginners, we have Flying Scots. A sailing instructor goes out with the campers to give them reassuring hands on experience. As the class goes on the campers take turns navigating, tacking, and performing other water drills.
Our intermediate sailors train on Sunfish. Sometimes one, but usually two campers will sail together performing various drills. The instructors for this class will be on safety boats. The campers will learn how to sail basic courses at this level and by the end of the session should be comfortable handling a dinghy by themselves.
Our most advanced level at Tockwogh is our racing class. Campers at this level will sail on JY 15's which are very similar to FJ's and 420's. They will be taught basic and advanced racing techniques, and this class is usually kept small because sailing experience is preferred. If you are interested in learning how to race, please also consider our advanced Sailing and Racing Camp, Tickwogh. At Tickwogh, campers will sail Lasers, one of the most popular racing dinghies around the world. Campers will sail virtually all day receiving lessons before the morning and afternoon water drills. You can find more information about Tickwogh at Tickwogh Racing Camp.
