Tsunayoshi (Tsuna) Sawada is the Main Protagonist of the Katekyo Hitman Reborn series. Tsuna starts the series as a below average middle School Student, whose reputation for being able to do nothing right has earned him the nickname Of "No Good Tsuna" among his peers. That is until the world's greatest hitman and home tutor, Reborn, appears and tells Tsuna that he is to become the head of the Vongola Family. He tells him that the original boss of the Vongola family, Vongola Primo, crossed over to Japan after he retired and he is now Tsuna's Great Great Great Grandfather. It has come time for the next boss of the Vongola Family to be chosen and Tsuna is the only surviving heir to this position. Tsuna wants no part of it and thinks its a joke, that is until Reborn notices the crush that Tsuna has on Kyoko Sasagawa. Reborn shoots Tsuna in the head with a Dying Will Bullet which causes Tsuna to be "Reborn" out of his own body as this hyperactive energetic and very aggressive persona, who follows out whatever regret he had as he was dying and tries to achieve it.

At the beginning of the series, Tsuna was considered a failure. He had no motivation, a lack of athleticism and absolutely no luck at all, he didn't even do well in school, having an average test score of 15. He was told he was useless by his peers, a fact that he openly acknowledged. It was because of this that he got the name "No Good Tsuna." When Reborn arrived that slowly changed. Over the course of his adventures with the mafia, Tsuna has gained a lot more confidence in himself. Even Reborn has to acknowledge his judge of character, as Tsuna can tell If a person Is "good inside" from their first meeting. Tsuna Is very compassionate towards others, to the point that he will often feel regret towards hurting his opponents. Like most Shonen Protagonists, Tsuna will do anything to protect his friends, to the point of giving up his life.
