| CHARTER DAY, May 17, 1969, was the final result of the "idea that began more than two years". Charter Day was an exciting day for all concerned. Blanche Hoffman, National Vice President, Alumnae Activities, was the installing officer. Fourteen alumnae and patronesses were charter members. A total of fifty five Sigma Alpha Iota alumnae, patronesses, members, pledges, national and province officers were present. | |||||||||||||||||
| In the 1970's the chapter undertook a robe-making project. We made the initiation robes for the college chapters as the National Office ordered them. For that, we won the Province Achievement Award in November 1974. |

| In 1994, the chapter sponsored its first philanthropic project in the Columbia community built on funds donated by chapter members, to the Columbia Civic Orchestra. The following two years, the chapter received a matching Seed Money Grant from SAI Philanthropies which doubled the funds donated by members for grants to the Columbia Hand Bell Ensemble in 1995 and the Columbia Choral Ensemble in 1996. In 1997, the recipient of money donated by members was the Missouri String Project. In 1998, the chapter received matching funds from Philanthropies for the Columbia Civic Orchestra. In 1995, the chapter received the Pi B Alumnae Chapter Achievement Award, which was presented by the Province Officer, Nancy Johnson. Additionally, in 1999 we received the Pi B Alumnae Chapter Achievement Award for Outstanding Fulfillment of the National Objectives. Other community service projects through the years have included: classical music chosen with comments and introductions written and announced on KBIA and KFRU radio stations on special programs sponsored by Columbia Alumnae SAI's. We celebrated our 30th birthday in 1999 with a program that included a ceremony honoring our current charter members, including Gloria Bradley, Bobbie Burk, Elaine Grev, Pat Lawnick, and guest SAI,Grace Louise Baker. | |||||||||||||||||
