One of the beautiful spots near Pune is area around Panshet Dam. The beauty of this place is tree dams as well as three forts.
In history point of view one can understand the beauty of these places. Khadakwasla dam was constructed in 1873 A.D. in order to fulfill the need of water. Because of good geographical conditions in late fifties Panshet dam was constructed. In 1961 it became famous when the dam collapsed and the entire water grabbed Pune city. The historical references say water level touched the wall of Shaniwar wada up to 12 feets.
In late sixtees the dam was reconstructed and the name given to the lake formed by this dam is Tanaji Sagar. Interesting thing is just next to this Dam is Varasgaon dam. These two dams are separated by one mountain. Both dams have huge beautiful backwater.
The other interesting story is three forts. On the way from Pune to Panshet one can easily see Sinhgad fort. But at the time of Shivaji, he use to travel across the mountain. The gap between the two mountains, which makes travel easy, is called as Khind. If you stand on the Panshet Dam you can very easily observe Kadva Khind. Kadva Khind is around 11 km away from Panshet Dam. This khind had historical importance. From this plase one can view three forts at a time, i.e. Sinhagad, Torna and Raigad. Toy can observe this beauty of three forts from this place very easily.
Let me give you first some details of Panshet.

We have enjoyed this trip allot. The snaps are as follows with explanation. We have started our journey at 0630 hrs. We were moving toward west on out bikes from Pune. The road and side seen were beautifull. One special thing of this road is as soon as one crosses the Khadakwasla dam the rest of the road will follow the back water of Khadakwasla dam. Within 1:30 hrs we reached to Panshet Dam.
A beautifull morning view of Sahyadri vally with back water : My small hut in the vally.
One more interesting thing that one can observe is that there are two dams seperated by a mountain. One of the dam is Panshet Dam and the other one is Varasgaon Dam. Hence one can very easily observe two huge dams at a time from one place.

Again we found ourself in Haven. Now its a back water of Panshet Dam. It is so beautifull tha I acnnot explain in words. We found that backwater of tha Dam is laveled with the road on which we were driving and hence we hailed there. Its bit deep and we could not dare to go in the water.
