The Rajmachi Fort is a wide fort situated near
Lonavla (one and half hour railway journey from Pune). There are two paks on Rajmachi fort. The taller one is
Shriwardhan and the other one is
Manoranjan.
Shriwardhan is about 910 meters and Manoranjan is about 900 meters tall.
At he bottom of these two peaks lies a village called
"Udhewadi".
First road
The distance between Lonavla and Udhewadi is about 19km and best way to cover this distance is to walk! The entire path is completly surrounded by green forest and it gives complete pleasure of walking. The road starts from Lonavla railway station and it travels through
Tungarli village, passing by the
Tungarli dam, and enters the Rajmachi plateau.
Pune/Mumbai ->Lonavla -> Tungarli Dam -> Rajmachi plateau -> Udhewadi.
There is no trekking involved in this journey (only perspiring walk!); but there is an alternate way also.
Second road
Kondivade is small village that can be reached from
Karjat (not far away from Mumbai). From Kondivade go to
Kondhane, from here go to
Kondhane caves. These are ancient Hindu and Buddhist caves; and these lie at the bottom of the Rajmachi. So here is the road map
Mumbai/Pune -> Karjat -> Kondivade -> Kondane/Kharvandi -> Kondhane caves ->Rajmachi
Hold on! there is third exciting road also.
Third road
The third way is from the Ulhas valley. First go to
Thakurwadi railway station (that is reachable from Pune/Mumbai); from here you can proceed to famous valley of
Ulhas River . This valley provides a fantastic experience of trekking and it is also associated by the naural beauty like waterfalls and wildflowers. A road to left from Ulhas river goes straight to Kondhane caves.
So here is third road map:
Mumbai/Pune -> Thakurwadi -> Ulhas river ->Kondhane caves -> Rajmachi.
