We finally had a good day to let the babies go, so off we went to Cindys. I did the usual routine, holding each baby one at a time so I could say goodbye with a kiss and a wish for happiness. Each time I couldnt believe how these babies were just the tiniest things when they came into my life, now they were off to a good start in life.
Some babies took right off, what a wonderful place to explore and all that room!! Some babies stayed around enjoying grass before wandering off. I waited awhile, always waiting to make sure everyone wanted to go.
Cody, who always seemed to be having some sort of boo boo or another, had just recovered from an apparent sore leg. He seemed all better, but he was a friendly timid little guy. I always told myself that if I could walk back up to a bunny and pick it back up, then it wasnt time for it to go, for once you put them on the ground usually, they werent about to let you grab them back up again!! Well, Cody just sat there. Cindy picked him up and set him down a little farther away, directly into the bushes. He still just sat there, so after giving him a few minutes I walked back over and picked him back up. Cindy was more worried about him then I was and wanted him to go back home for a bit!!
One bunny I found hiding behind the fence next to a log looking a bit unsure, so I climbed over and picked her up and took her to under a tree where another sat eating, hoping she would feel better to know another was near by. That seemed to do the trick being close to another until she got her bearings about her. I left when all bunnies were out of sight and no one came to my calls.
Cody came home with me for about 4 more days, where he considerably wilded up in that short time. When I took him back out and placed him on the ground, off he went, thru the fence and into the field, where I watched him for a bit checking everything out, seeming so much different then the little timid bunny I had taken back home just days before.
Unfortunately and sadly, on every visit I never saw them again, and Cindy only saw them but a few times right after their release. I figured it was about that time of the year when for whatever reason you dont see much of bunnies anymore until next spring, at least I hoped that was it. Maybe they were just a very independent litter not needing much to do with me anymore.
I hope they are all safe and warm, just as I hope the babies before them are, my little sweet angels...........
The day of their release. I know there are 6 pics of 5 babies, but I cant tell whos who in the pictures!!
