My intention for this site is not to encourage people to go out and steal wild baby rabbits for the pleasure of raising them. I am sure there are people who may be offended or appalled that I have taken these babies from their nests, but I hope that it will be understood that I couldnt let them be disposed of because they were considered a pest. I do believe I gave these bunnies a better chance at a beginning then what they may have had due to predators or being tossed away in the trash or field. I did not take in these babies because I wanted to make one into a pet, as I see people so often say they want to do with them. Some wild animals may very well be suitable as pets, but not wild rabbits. I do not believe in keeping one as a pet, nor do I believe in trying to tame one to keep. My Buddy Bear has been trusting of me since she was a baby, and just never changed. As far as I'm concerned, this is very unusual and I tell people no matter how sweet and friendly they are in the beginning, it is rare for one to stay that way. Even if you should find one outside that approaches you or is trusting of you, does not mean something must be wrong with it and that you should take it in. Even Buddy still has her wild tendencies. Tho I am not a rehabilatator, nor do I claim to be, I am currently working with a rehab in my area, and I wanted to share my knowledge that I have learned from there, and from LouRea Kenyon. Her rehabilitating technique which differs from most others concerning the awareness of the fatal diarrhea, holding and bonding, and releasing at a later age, is the one I have chosen to believe in. Mostly this site is intended to share my stories, my love of cottontails and domestic rabbits with readers that are maybe as interested in finding information about them as I once was. My rabbits are what I love to talk about, and with a little inspiration from my dear friend Sally who shares love of cottontails as I do, this website has been created with a lot of devotion and love for my babies. Please stop by often for updates on all my current bunnies, and maybe new babies next spring. Thank you !! Sincerely, Amy |
