From 27 – 30 August more than forty of South Africa’s top designers,
80 exhibitors and thousands of fashion enthusiasts will converge on Johannesburg’s
Sandton Convention Centre to network, be inspired and advance the business
of fashion at the South African Fashion Week 2003.
The country’s premier fashion showcase and trade platform is now in
its seventh year and promises followers of fashion a taste of the freshest
collections of both up-and-coming and established designers as well as an
expanded trade exhibition of local garment, footwear, accessory and textile
manufacturers.
Almost 2000 square metres of exhibition space will be flanked by two fashion
show arenas where over 40 local designers and top African and Indian talents
will be showcasing their summer collections in 16 shows staged over four days.
“The fashion industry is a huge business globally and as the only representative
showcase of the South African fashion industry in all its facets, our vision
is to serve as a central point to bring together designers, manufacturers,
suppliers, buyers and boutique owners, says SAFW Director, Lucilla Booyzen.
“We want to be the common ground where all players in the industry meet
to exchange ideas and build relationships to promote the industry as a vital
and growing business sector.”
As principal sponsor, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has committed
to growing the fashion industry in South Africa and will be supporting its
development through SAFW with special emphasis on the promotion of emerging
black designers.
