Okay, I've decided not to do another issue for awhile, because issues like gun control, abortion, and that stuff... that really has NO impact on our lives. Napster, however, is revolutionizing the internet. P2P file sharing and things like that. When something big comes along, I'll be sure to put it up, and I'll tell you about it in the news section. Now, read, ninja, read!

10/15/00 --- Napster

Okay, first of all, I don't really understand how the RIAA can sue Napster. First of all, nothing "illegal" is being done. People are encoding songs from CDs to MP3 format.
But people do that with video cassettes and tapes. That's not illegal just so we don't make profit from it, and Napster isn't making profit from OTHER PEOPLE uploading and downloading songs.

Second, I think that Napster is actually contributing to the success of bands. I'd never heard songs by Orgy and KMK until I got Napster, and I went out and bought their CDs. My bro has bought loads of CDs since he got Napster.
The RIAA tried suing radio companies way back in the day, too. They lost, and also figured out if people hear it first there, they're more likely to buy the CD. And thats what Napster does!

Third, Lars (you know, the drummer from Metallica? He SUCKS) says to Time magazine that people wouldn't buy the CDs if they could get em for free. And he said that Metallica is very lucky because they don't have to worry about that, cuz they're already a big success, but smaller bands are in trouble.
Okay, now lets look this over.

     a) he says that people wouldn't buy the CDs if they could get em for free. Well, that may be true, but we're not getting them for           free. Its just like a demo: we're listening to it first.
     b) he also says that smaller bands are in trouble because they'll be making less money because of napster. Okay, sure, whatever he says, but the smaller bands won't get a start unless people can hear their music, and Napster allows people to do that.

Lastly, the battle between Napster and the RIAA isn't looking too good for Napster. I'm hoping that you guys out there that are reading this will help Napster out.
