Happiness Is Measured Out In Miles
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
The next morning was a very hectic one. The phone didn’t stop ringing. One time it was Brian, one time the press. We were both quite nervous about it all. We were just going to America! It was not a war or anything.
- "Have you got everything ready, Vicky? Brian is coming for us in twenty minutes". I thought. Ok, Vicky, relax. Let’s see... I’ve got everything, Brian and Neil are in charge of the papers, Visas and stuff...
- "Yes, John, please, don’t make more nervous than I already am!"
We finally heard the doorbell. Brian was already waiting for us in the limousine. So I put on the coat John had bought me in France and the fur cap and grabbed my handbag. John put on his cap as well. I got out first and John locked the door. We went out to the limo where Brian was already waiting for us.
- "Hi Brian!, I said. He didn’t answer me and I could notice he was quite nervous and tense too. He started talking to John:
- "Here, John! Here you are your and her papers. Have a look at them, when you’ve got time. Now, look. The whole press is gonna be there: papers. Television, radio..."
I looked outside by the window while he was talking. I supposed I was getting used to all those things. I had already been in the papers once or twice, what did I care a third time? But then, Brian caught my attention:
- "Vicky", I turned around, "look. I know you’ve been through a very bad and hard time, but you’ll have to understand that John is going to be very busy these days. He’ll be with you, yes, but not much. You’d better be getting used to the idea of not seeing him as much as you like."
I looked at John. He held my hand. Brian went on:
- "He’s got interviews, press conferences and lots of other things". I smiled at John. He was so gorgeous, black cap, long hair almost covering over his gorgeous eyes... Ah! Just to be with him was enough.
- "Ok, no problem, Brian". Brian seemed more relaxed.
- "Maureen Cleave, a journalist from the Evening Standard and who is also a friend of them, is also coming with us, so you can go with her for company, right?". I nodded.
When we got to the airport I thought I had become crazy. Brian had said the whole press would be there but I thought the whole country was there. There were thousands of girls at the airport,. Screaming and shouting and I couldn’t believe the fame of the Beatles had reached such a point. Brian directed us to a private room. There were lots of people inside that room too, some people I didn’t know. The best part, actually. But I could distinguish Mal Evans, Neil Aspinall, Paul, Ringo, George, EDU and Eli. Edu and Eli were alone in a corner of the room, while Paul, George and Ringo were in another corner sitting at a table talking to some well dressed men. I was dying to talk to my friends, so I rushed towards them and John told me:
- "Don’t go too far, luv!" I smiled at him. So John and Brian joined the other three and I went with Edu and Eli:
- "Hi!"
- "Vicky! How I envy you!", told me Edu. "I was finally able to convince my manager to get today off to see George go by. Please, dear, take care of them. After all you’re going to be away for three weeks, aren’t you?" So long? I had no idea. But anyway, I nodded.
- "Yes, I’ll do it, trust me". Then I saw Bob Freeman enter the room. He saw me too and waved. I followed him with my eyes and saw he joined the Beatles, who, at that moment, were with a young woman who seemed to be very friendly with the guys. "Who’s that girl?", I asked Edu and Eli. Maybe they knew. Edu seemed to know more things from George than I from John, but this time they also shrugged. I observed, then. The Beatles were getting ready for a pre-flight press conference and she only wanted to be photographed with them. But how on earth had she been able to enter? Brian talked to her every now and then so I assumed she was familiar to the guys.
The press conference lasted about fifteen minutes and then Paul, George and John came towards us. I went to John.
- "Let’s have a look at the papers, luv!" So we both sat down on two free chairs we happened to find somewhere in the room. John took them out of their hand bag and we started to have a look at them. Someone came and started to take pictures of us. I was relaxed, now, it was out in the open. "Ok, Hoffmann! That’s enough for today. Go to Paulie or Georgie!"; said John. I had to laugh.
It was finally time to embark. Edu and Eli were with Paul and George and resisted to get rid of them but they had to do it. Kisses and hugs and even tears on the part of Edu were there. George stroked her hair and kissed her on the forefront. Eli and Paul were softly kissing on the lips. They finally parted. John wanted to go too but I first wanted to say goodbye to my friends, so Paul and George came past us and we three hugged.
- "Vicky, take care! And take care of them and please, keep in touch!" I hated farewells. It was really sad. But I would be with John and that was really important for me. John came to us too. First he hugged Edu and kissed her on the cheek.
- "Be a good girl, luv! And I’ll lock little George away just to keep him away of all the American birds". Edu laughed. Then he moved to Eli and he kissed her too: "This is gonna be more difficult with Macca" he said. Eli said:
- "I trust you, Lennon!" So John grabbed me by the hand and we went outside. Brian had been waiting for us and so he went out with us. The girls were screaming really loud now, like mad. I could hardly hear John telling me: "Are you happy, luv?" I could only nod and smile since it was impossible I could tell him anything. Ringo, Paul and George were already on the stairs of the plane. Brian went upstairs quickly and John ordered me to follow him. While I was half way on the stairs, I didn’t know if I had to enter the plane or stay there, so I turned around and John was still looking at me. He indicated me to enter the plane. He stayed there with the guys, he had to pose for photographers.
Once inside I looked at my plane ticket and looked for my seat. I walked past Mal and Neil, who were flying second class. I thought I would be flying second class too, but my seat was first class. I suddenly felt really proud. Up to this point, fame had only brought misfortunes to me. This was something positive, thank God. I saw then the same girl who had been talking to the Beatles before, sitting on one of the window seats. I wondered who she could be. I tried:
- "Hello!", she turned around.
- "Hello! I’ve seen you with John, are you Vicky?"
- "Yes, I am".
- "Hi, I’m Maureen Cleave, from the Evening Standard. Brian told me we are going to spend some time together. Why don’t you sit down here with me?
I stopped to think. I didn’t know if I’d be sitting next to John. I’d rather to but since the Beatles hadn’t climbed onto the plane yet, I’d better sit down next to Maureen Cleave and get to know her. She was going to be my "friend" during the American experience.
I sat down next to her and, smiling at me, she pointed out outside the plane to the Beatles. They were on the stairs, and lots of photographers and cameramen were there. I also looked around the airport terminal and it was full of girls screaming. The Beatles moved and started to go upstairs.
- "They’re coming!" I said happily to Maureen. I got up and walked towards the entrance door. Paul was first, followed by George and then Ringo. George winked at me when he walked past. John was last. When he saw me, he took me by the hand and kissing me started to walk forward. Another cameraman was filming us. Oh God! I was so embarrassed. John started pulling faces at the camera and I laughed, but inside I was dying with embarrassment. The cameraman, seeing me laugh, focused on me. I hid my face and John took his cap out and hid the objective. When we passed alongside Maureen Cleave, John told me:
- "Have you met?"
- "Oh, yes! We’ve been talking for a while". John looked at Maureen, then at me.
- "Do you want to be sitting next to her?" Maureen smiled at me and I thought I’d better be getting used to not being with John, so I smiled her back and I told John:
- "You don’t mind?"
- "Oh, no, luv! I’ve got things to talk about with the guys. And anyway once the plane takes off, we can be together".
So I sat next to Maureen. She was wearing a Beatle haircut although being a woman she had longer hair, shoulder length or so, with a fringe, just like the guys. Her hair colour was dark, but not as dark as mine. We were sitting near Paul. John was a few rows ahead and in between there was a guy in sun-glasses sitting near John. The plane finally took off.
- "Bye bye England!" I said. Maureen laughed. Then she looked at me suspiciously.
- "You would do an interesting article for my paper. How did you meet John?"
- "Are you interviewing me?"
- "Well, it could be". I laughed but then the stewardess came out from the cabin and started giving us life-saving instructions. I started to hear wolf whistles coming from the different rows, among then, John’s. George and Ringo were laughing loudly imitating the stewardess manners. But Paul wasn’t in the mood. He was pessimistic.
- "Since America has always had everything, why would we be over there making money? They’ve got their own groups. What are we going to give them that they don’t already have?" This question was directed to the guy in sun glasses. But Maureen turned around and told Paul not to worry:
- "You’ll go like a bomb in America", she told him. I wasn’t that sure. Elvis was in America and Elvis was the greatest. The Beatles weren’t as big as Elvis (at least that’s what I thought then, now I know they were bigger).
- "Shut up yer bloody gob, Macca! I’m hearing you and you’re making me dead nervous!"; I heard John screaming from ahead. Ringo joined Paul’s mood:
- "They’ve got everything over there, will they want us too?"
John was almost shouting at this point.
- "If you don’t bloody shut up, I’ll go there and make you not to want to say a bloody word for the rest of yer fucking life!" When John curses that much I could say he was worried about something. He was as tense and pessimistic like the rest, but he was not one to show his feelings, and that was his shell. There was silence, but then someone came who only made matters worse. This man started telling Paul that what in England was a sign of confidence meant exactly the opposite in America. Everybody was dead nervous. It was only America, for goodness sake! And they all were behaving as thought we were going to a different planet or something.
I decided not to worry about that and I told Maureen Cleave if we could swap seats. I wanted to sleep a little, and she was in the inner seat, so I wouldn’t have to disturb her if she wanted to walk around. So we swapped seats and I leaned my head against the back of the seat and closed my eyes. I didn’t know I had fallen asleep until I heard someone yell:
- "Hey! I think we’ve come to the wrong place!" It took me a few minutes to realise where I was. Then everybody looked out of the windows. Maureen wasn’t on the seat next to me and I looked for John. I saw him looking outside the window with Paul. Then the stewardess came and told us to fasten our belts because the plane was beginning to descend. Maureen came and sat next to me. I looked at my watch. I still had the European time so I had to ask her for the time:
- "It’s almost one, luv!", I realised she had the same way of speaking as the guys.
- "For how long have I been sleeping?" She laughed.
- "You’d better not know. Luv, the jet lag is gonna kill you".
The plane finally came to a stop and everybody started to move. Someone shouted the Beatles would go down first. I was told to stay behind with Maureen, Neil and Mal. When John came past me he winked at me and blew me a kiss. He had again his cap on. I almost screamed:
- "When will I see you?" He shrugged. I felt really disappointed, but the he moved on and I lost him.
Outside, I thought the entire teenage population had gathered at the airport to see someone important. Maureen told me it was probably for the president.
- "It’s impossible all this is for the Beatles", she told me. I frowned.
- "No, they’re pretty good, at least on record".
- "Haven’t you seen them live?", she asked me.
- "No". Well, only on television but I had never been to one of their concerts. The closest I had been to see them perform live was this last Christmas at the Astoria, but that wasn’t a proper concert. She was going to tell me something but someone came and told us we could be moving.
The fans kept on screaming outside but somehow all the crowd of journalists and press had gone following the Beatles, so Neil, Mal, Maureen, I and some more people walked onwards util we were out of the plane. We had to go to declare our baggage, which took us a long time. Brian had arranged everything, so it was only show our passport, but they anyway insisted on having a look at my handbag where I only had make up and a few more things.
Then we were directed to a room in the arrivals building. It was absolutely jammed and I kept being held away from John. I couldn’t come near him. This was crazy. All the girls were absolutely mad at this point, screaming even inside the building. When we entered the room, I saw the Beatles standing on a platform in front of several microphones, Some chairs were brought in for Maureen, me, Neil and Mal and also for some more people who nobody had introduced to me yet but that it seemed were coming with us because they had been following us all the time.
I was tired. What it was supposed to be late evening was suddenly turned into afternoon again, because it was only 1.30 in America. My God! Was it possible? And I felt as thought I had to go to bed in a couple of hours!!
The journalists were screaming too. Their English was difficult for me, since I was used to the British English.
No one of the Beatles could see me because I was on one side, to their right. But I wanted to hear what they would say because, once again, I had only seen them on TV.
Someone stepped to the microphone and shut the photographers up so that the reporters could ask. Nobody took any notice, they all shouted all the more. John joined what he thought it was fun:
- "Yeah, yeah! Everybody shut up!", he said. All the reporters started to applaud. Somebody asked:
- "Aren’t you embarrassed by all this lunacy?"
- "No", said John, "it’s crazy".
- "Will you sing something for us?", asked a female reporter.
- "No, we need money first", said John. Everybody laughed, me included. Maureen was taking notes like frantic, she wanted to have everything the boys said for her paper.
- "How do you account for your success?"
- "We have a press agent".
- "What is your ambition?"
- "To come to America"
- "Do you hope to have haircuts?"
- "I had one yesterday". Everybody laughed at George’s remark. But then Paul and Ringo started to tell it was true, and it probably was. Well, after a while, all the questions seem so stupid to me that I disconnected. I just wanted five or ten minutes of privacy with John. Could I have them? The press conference finally ended and we were directed outside the building where four Cadillac limousines were waiting for us. Everything was so quick and so hectic that within ten seconds after the end of the press conference I found myself sitting in a limo at the front seat and John, Paul and Ringo at the back. Paul had a transistor and a disc jockey was playing Beatles music all the time and saying nonsense like the Beatles wrote poetry. John was smoking incessantly, a sign that he was dead nervous. And it was freezing in America. Then John stretched his arm to touch me:
- "Are you alright, luv? Are you happy to have come?" Well, that was a difficult question. I would be happy if I could be with John for at least ten minutes. But I couldn’t say that to John. I knew he wanted me to enjoy my visit to America so I just smiled and nodded. He came forward to kiss me.
The drive wasn’t long and we finally reached the hotel. Neil and Brian were already at reception asking for the keys. Outside the hotel, lots of girls were chanting "We love the Beatles!" thousands of times. Now that I had the chance to have a look at them, I realised they were young girls, maybe a couple of years younger than me, but not much, and I supposed that, like myself, they had skipped off school. Well,, we finally got the keys and went to the lifts up to the twelfth floor. John and I had a room for ourselves. But there was a suite where they would socialise. But John wanted to be with me as much as I wanted to be with him., We entered the room and with the excuse that we wanted to unpack, he locked the door. He turned to me.
- "Finally, luv. This is crazy! The wildest people seem to be gathered here!" I smiled. I started unpacking. John lied on the door. Then he looked at me: "Come here!", he told me. I rolled and lied on top of him. He kissed me. "Are you sure you are alright, luv? This is too much for us, imagine for you, just released from hospital".
- "I’m Ok, John", I told him kissing him. But then someone knocked on the door. Oh, no! If things continued like this, we wouldn’t have even five minutes of privacy.
- "Bloody Hell! Who’s that?", shouted John.
- "John, it’s Brian. Open the door, there’s no time to play". John got up in a sudden jump all angry and opened the door.
- "Listen to me, Eppy! I’m not playing, and don’t be shitty on me, ok? I’ll do the things that are scheduled but not more, and now I want to be with her", he said pointing at me. Brian looked at John with begging eyes. He was hurt.
- "John, Brian Mathew from the BBC in England is going to phone in a couple of minutes to record an interview with you and you also have to have a look at the mail and..." John was looking at me. Who was I to say no to John’s job? I knew I couldn’t be with him as much as I liked so I nodded to John:
- "John, you have to"
- "Ok, then, come with me". And so I did. We were both now tired but it was something that it had to be done. John put on his prescriptive sun glasses just to be able to see something, and I did the same. We were both wearing sunglasses inside the building but we couldn’t care less. George was feeling a little bit funny when I entered the room. But nobody took much notice. It was so cold in America that we all had our throats in danger. Someone kept coming and bringing George hot coffees. John started to read mail and then he found a strange instrument. Immediately after that he forgot about the mail and started playing it. I was bored out of my mind. I went to talk to George.
- "How are you?"
- "I feel a little bit funny, I’ve phoned my sister Louise, she’s coming over":
- "Oh, your sister, fine, so I’ll meet her". I was really tired then, so I told John I was going to bed. John told me they were having some guests that evening, but I couldn’t wait, it was impossible to me that I still was with England time, it was quite late. So, John told me:
- "Ok, ,luv, rest, and if you need anything, I’ll be here". I went to sleep and only woke up when I felt John slipping under the covers and wrapping his arms around my waist. I moaned a little but he kissed my head and told me: "Shh, luv, it’s me. Keep sleeping". I didn’t know what time it was, but I didn’t care, I drifted off to sleep in no time.
John woke me up the next morning. It was terribly cold and rainy and I didn’t want to move from under the beds. John was getting ready to go:
- "Where are you going?"
- "To Central Park for the usual pictures and stuff. How are ya, anyway?" I yawned.
- "I’m fine now. I feel relaxed and that is good. I’ve slept for hours!"
- "I can tell, luv!", he said smiling. "And how on earth can you sleep so deeply? Brian has been knocking on the door all morning just to give us the news that George’s ill".
- "What?"
- "Yeah, poor Georgie is ill".
- "But then...", I was puzzled. I guessed they had some gigs going on but if George was ill.. John read my mind.
- "Yeah, luv, I don’t know. He’s not coming to Central park, for a kick off". Someone knocked on the door. I was still in bed so John decided it was better if he could go to the suit room and I entered the bathroom to have a shower. Then I started to think. John would be away all morning so I’d have to look for something to do myself. Well, the first thing would be visit George and maybe phone Edu from there to tell her.
That I did. John had already gone when I went to the bathroom, so I went to George’s room. There were some people at his door. One of them asked me who I was.
- "Vicky".
- "I’m glad you’re Vicky", he said, "but I’m afraid you’ll have to leave the floor this minute, dear". Oh, he was taking me by a fan. Oh no! And John wasn’t around to help me.
- "I’m with them, with John! Ask Brian Epstein. Call him!"
- "Whom I’m going to call if you don’t leave this building this minute is the security guards". Oh, bad start for a day! Well, I couldn’t give up so soon, so I insisted.
- "I’m with them, ask George". I admit the guy was patient with me.
- "May I have your identification, please?" I showed him my ID. After looking at it for a couple of minutes, he said: "Look, dear,, we’ve been informed that John’s wife is called Cynthia and I’m afraid, Vicky, that’s not your name, is it?"
I gave up, I finally gave up. I couldn’t argue against that. What could I do, then? Shout? Call George loudly? No, this man grabbed me by the arm and walked with me to the lifts. Thank God! When we were almost near the lifts, the doors opened and Brian got out accompanied by another well-dressed man.
- "Vicky, where are you going?"
- "I think this man took me for a fan and was about to throw me out", I told him quite angrily.
- "Let her go his minute!", said Brian, "She’s with John". The man looked pale. This is good as a punishment.
- "I’m sorry, sir. I’m awfully sorry, sir... if I can do anything... I just thought she was a crazy fan".
- "It’s OK, just go to your position. Let’s have a look at George, now".
I went with Brian and the other man, whom he introduced me as Mr Somerville, and the three of us together walked in to find George on bed looking as miserable as ever and with a blonde girl sitting by his side on the bed. He looked uncomfortable when he saw us, but said:
- "Hi there!"
- "Hi, George!", I said. "How are you?" The blond girl got up and came to us.
- "I’ve seen better days", he said. Still that black humour that seemed to be with him even in critic moments. "Oh, this is my sister Louise. Louise, this is Vicky, Edu’s best friend, and John’s girl".
I looked at her. She was very much like George. They all seemed to have the same face under different hairstyles. We shook hands.
- "Hi, Vicky. Pleased to meet you". I looked at George, who was talking to Brian and Somerville now. "He’ll be fine", she told me, seeing that I was looking quite worried at George, "the doctor says it’s only German measles. It seems there’s been an epidemic in new York recently or something".
- "Oh!", was all I managed to say. Well,, I would have liked to talk to George in private but Brian and Somerville had him for themselves. I tried, anyway, "George!", I caught his attention, "what time will it be now in England? I want to phone Edu and tell her about it": He didn’t even look at his witch.
- "Nah! I phoned her yesterday when we arrived. I’ll do it tomorrow before the show, Ok? You can be with me if you want". I nodded. Now the problem was what to spend my time on while John was way. From George’s room I phoned Maureen Cleave and I suggested going shopping.
- "It an be very risky, Vicky"; she told me. "Fans here are a little bit rougher than there British ones". I was disappointed.
- "Well,, what can I do, then? I’m definitely not staying here all day until the Beatles come back to the hotel". She thought, obviously, that I was right.
- "Ok, come to my room and watch me work. Once you’re here, we’ll see what you can do".
I hang up, not very pleased with the idea. This was not what I had expected from America. But Brian had unconsciously eavesdropped the whole conversation and told me:
- "Vicky, John would never forgive me if anything happened to you, but anyway, I can arrange someone to go with you, and so you can go wherever you want".
That sounded better. We phoned Maureen again and put off our plans. Brian called someone whose name was Brown Megs, the public relations man for Capitol Records, a grey-haired man who looked like my granddad. His first instinct when he saw me was smile a mischievous grin and he was about to say something to me but Brian looked at him and very seriously told him:
- "She’s John’s girl". The expression of Brown Megs changed. Brian told him he would be sort of a security man for me, and as soon as he didn’t interfere in my things, that was OK by me. We said goodbye to George and went out with Brown.
He wasn’t very nice after that, not definitely a nice company. He was very serious with me but I couldn’t care less. He wanted to flirt at first and now he was giving me the cold shoulder. He wanted to be accepted by the officers when he showed off he was staying by "John’s girl" all the time. I’m sure John wouldn’t like that, but anyway, I tried to forget about him and concentrate on enjoying America.
Everywhere I went, I found things my mum would like or my brother or John. I went into an enormous record store and I almost got crazy when I found thousands of girls (well, they should have been the only ones who weren’t outside the Plaza) screaming and yelling and buying the latest beatle record. I didn’t take much notice and went to my favourite: Buddy Holly. I bought a couple of his records and then saw some that I thought John and the guys might like. Chuck Berry, this one was for John, Marvyn Gaye, that Paul might like, maybe a couple of Elvis for George, Paul and John... I was not sure about Ringo. I found myself buying about twenty records for myself, Edu and the Beatles., Then I went shopping for clothes. Brown was bored out of his mind and only seemed amused when we stopped to have lunch and he started flirting with all the waitresses.
Night fell down quickly and we went back to the hotel. Ah! The guys were already there! Brown and I went to our floor and I entered the suit. Brown was stopped at the door. I turned back...
- "Why?", was he shouting, "after all I’ve done for her?", well, he was exaggerating a little, he hadn’t done that much. That’s for being so unfriendly with me and flirting with al the girls. I thought he deserved that. I entered the room.
They were all sitting, watching the news on TV and listening to the radio at the same time. George was up. John saw me and came to me immediately to kiss me. How I had missed his kisses! I felt excited when he kissed me, because I could feel his tongue moving a little bit inside my mouth and I became horny. Anyway I had to go apart, because we weren’t alone in the room.
- "Luv! How are ya, babe? I was scared out of my skin when I came back ‘ere and you weren’t in! Brian told me you had gone to do girlie things". He smiled one of his beautiful mischievous smiles.
- "Yeah!", I said kissing him again. I couldn’t resist. "Look what I’ve bought for you all". I suddenly remembered the records and went through the bags to unwrap them for them. All of them gathered around me. Paul remained on his chair. "Paul, I’ve got records for you too".
- "Ah, leave ‘im alone, luv! He’s been all morning with a lousy mood!", said John. Well, I shrugged and started to give the rest of them the records. They were amazed. They were like kids roaming free in a toy shop.
- "Hell, Vicky, you were lovely, but this is just too much!"; said George.
- "I want just one girl like you for my birthday!", joked Ringo. We all were laughing and I was happy to see them happy. There was a record player in the suite room so they all wanted to play the new records. John took one and went to play it. I went with him. When the table where I had left the records was free, I noticed Paul approaching soothingly. The tremendous noise of Chuck Berry "Johnny B. Goode" filled the room in. John started singing it along. Then he took me in his arms and started kissing me. I kissed him back, I wanted him like mad. Then he suddenly said:
- "Luv, what are ya plans for tonight?". I had to laugh.
- "What kind of question is that? I’m here with you". They all laughed but John was serious.
- "No, luv. I mean, we have to go the 21 club to have dinner with all the Capitol executives and all this people. We’ll be coming soon, so I thought you could stay with Maureen, you know, otherwise you’ll be bored out of your mind". They all looked at me, even Paul. Well, if John was asking me that, I’d better obeyed. I didn’t like the idea, but I would wait for John widely awake and when he came back, we’d make love just like we had done the other day back in England. I nodded. John kissed me.
And so they all went. Maureen Cleave had gone up to the suite room and we were both watching TV and talking. Well, I felt quite disappointed. This was not what I expected from America. I had really come to be with John, because I deserved it after all I had gone through, and I also wanted to sightsee a little if I could. "I’ll make up for you, luv", he was always saying, "but now that’s the way it is". Ok, I gave in. Another night without John.
Maureen agreed to have dinner with me and even Neil said he would stay with us. That was very nice of him. Journalists were very clever when they wanted to get information or something so he decided to stay and let Mal go to take care of the guys.
We decided to have dinner at the restaurant of the hotel. Neil was in charge of everything. Nobody would disturb us. We ordered and started eating.
- "So, how did you meet John?", asked me Maureen. Neil laughed and I looked at her suspiciously.
- "You’re determined to get your article, aren’t you?", I said.
- "Oh, no", she laughed, "just curious, luv. I’ve been trying to have John leave Cyn for years, you know, but I never got it. And now you come and..." Neil started laughing out loud.
- "Well, Maureen, the answer is quite simple. You only have to look at her". I felt my face turn as red as a chilly pepper. Was that a compliment? Yes, it was. Maureen said:
- "Very funny, Neil. I’ll make sure you lose your job as soon as possible". They both laughed. But Maureen insisted and I finally told her the whole story, how I had been on holidays with Brian in Spain and how Edu and I had been quite by chance at the same hotel as them. And then everything came quite quickly, John left Cynthia and all the rest.
Neil and Maureen also talked about business. I couldn’t make out a word of what they were saying, so I decided to phone Edu. It was late night here in America, so it should be early morning in England. Oh, but it was Sunday, so decided not to. I went back to the conversation and I heard Neil was naming Bob Dylan, because I heard him say "Dylan". I was amazed and I remembered then that, as unbelievable as it seemed, we were in Dylan’s country and I loved Bob Dylan.
- "Is Dylan in town?", I asked Neil. He turned to me, amazed that I had been listening.
- "No", I looked disappointed.
- "What a pity! I would have loved to meet him" I didn’t know what I was saying, of course. A girl from a tiny city in Spain meeting Bob Dylan, that was something to laugh about. It was impossible, but Neil took it as something serious.
- "Oh, and the boys too. And myself".
- "You’re a music lover, then?", asked me Maureen. I gave her more facts about myself for her article because I told her I was a real music lover, and told her about my musical tastes.
The time went by quickly and we soon went back to the suit room to wait for the boys. The huge room looked different without them there. There were a few people in, waiting for them also, but somehow the room was empty without my John. We sat down and watched TV, which was on. Nothing interesting, if we except when the Beatles appeared on it, at their arrival at the Kennedy airport. I even thought I had seen myself when the cameramen focused on the plane.
We suddenly heard some laughter approaching and the door opened. In came Brian, George, Ringo, John and a few more people. John didn’t see me at first, so I had to lift an arm and wave at him. He then saw me and smiling came to me. He held my hand:
- "Luv!", he said kissing me, "I’m sorry to have left you behind. It won’t happen again", he kissed me softly on the lips again.
- "It’s Ok, John. I’ve had dinner with Maureen and Neil and it’s not been that bad. Neil is very nice". John put a strange face: "Oh, John, nice to talk to, to be with... Nothing else...", he put this mischievous grin that I loved so much in his face and kissed me again.
Up to that moment, I hadn’t realised that only John, George and Ringo with Brian had entered the room. I don’t know why but suddenly wondered where Paul could be:
- "Where’s Paul?", I asked John. He suddenly was uncomfortable.
- "He’s gone on his own for a while. Be back soon, I suppose".
- "Oh", but I couldn’t care less. I just wanted to be with John and the way he was kissing me, he wanted to be with me too. He whispered in my ear:
- "Let’s go to our room, luv". That turned me on a lot, the way he had said it was very arousing. Without even saying goodbye to the rest of the people in the suite room, we left the room. We hadn’t closed the door yet when we heard some laughter coming from inside. John smiled: "Those bastards! They’re so horny and green with envy because they haven’t got anybody as nice..." I smiled too and holding John’s hand we entered the room.
He kissed me all the way to bed and then pushed me until I fell down on it on my back. Without even unbuttoning his suit jacket, he jumped on me and started kissing me in the mouth passionately. I could feel John’s warm tongue playing with mine and the feeling was very very arousing. I felt really horny and John was turning me on very very much.
- "Can we make love now, luv? I really can’t wait any longer!", he told me. I was really horny too but I thought it still could be dangerous. The doctor had said a few weeks, so I decided to wait a little bit more.
- "Oh, John! It can be dangerous..."
- "Oh, bloody hell! I want you, luv!", he started kissing my neck and I moaned out of sheer pleasure. He then lifted my long-neck sweater up and took it out through my head. I had a bra on and while he kissed my mouth, he tried to unlatch it from behind. He was having a difficult time doing it, so, laughing, I helped him out.
- "What are you laughing at, you little bird?", he said laughing too, then we kissed and I took his shirt out from his trousers. He still had his jacket, tie and everything from the dinner on, so he got up and started taking them out. I helped him. I started unbuttoning his white shirt until I saw his chest, his torso, with his nipples, his navel, everything... Boy, I loved that man! I passed my hand slowly from his shoulders, going through all his freckles (he had some on his left shoulder) until his waist and then I unfastened his belt. I unzipped his trousers and pulled them down. He helped me holding my hands while I was doing so. Then I pulled his underwear down. I had to laugh. John was really horny for what I could see, his dick was as tight as a stick and then, when I looked up at his face, his eyes were shining. He then leaned down and started doing the same to me. I had been wearing a skirt all day and he pulled it down until I was only in my knickers. Then he came to my face and kissed me softly. He moved down to my neck, showering it with little kisses and I moaned. Then he made his way down to my nipples. He started biting and kissing the right one while with his left hand he teased my left nipple, quizzing it softly with his thumb and forefinger. I thought I would explode. I didn’t want to show much enthusiasm for fear that the people next room would hear my screams. But then he went down the line of my stomach, covering it with little kisses, and stopped at my belly button. He kissed it and started licking it. I could feel his warm tongue drawing circles all around it and I tossed and turned thinking this time I would explode for sure. I lifted up my waist to his face and then he went down to my knickers. Biting one end, he pulled down his teeth until he finally took it out completely with his teeth. I was really horny and I needed to make love to John desperately. I didn’t know even what I was saying:
- "Oh, John, please! Make love to me, please!", I was almost screaming at this point. John put a hand on my mouth, covering it and that only turned me on all the more. Then he smiled and crawled up to my face to kiss me softly. When I had calmed down a little he bit my ear and whispered:
- "No, luv! I’m gonna play you. You’re going to be my harmonica tonight. I’m going to play ya like the harmonica I play in "From me to you" and "Love me do". I couldn’t understand what he was saying, and more in the state I was in, but he showed me what he meant. He went down my belly once again and started playing with the tender part where my thighs started. He kissed me softly the inner parts of my groins and put little kisses all around my thighs.
He opened then my legs strongly with both his arms and put his lovely face in the middle. Then he started by kissing my vaginal lips, then he blew in them and he finally licked them softly, soothingly, tenderly... I knew then what it felt like to be his harmonica. I was on the verge of coming:
- "Oh, yeah, baby! Oh, Johnny! Play me like an harmonica, please!", I was shouting. And that turned him on all the more because he licked, kissed and bit my inner lips in a frantic manner. I could feel the wave of orgasm coming to me but then he lifted up and came to kiss me. He moved to my right ear and whispered:
- "Not yet, luv", while exploring my body with his right hand. Then, once again I noticed his fingers moving deep inside me. He continued whispering in my ear: "Now you’re gonna be me little Rickenbacker, luv", and then he moved inside me with his forefingers making me almost come. I was in ecstasy.
- "Oh, John! I’m cumming... OhhhhH!!!", and I came, scratching his naked back and running my hands through his hair. He shut my words up kissing me and then took his fingers out of me. I was lying there, exhausted, full of sweat even though we were in February. John then crawled up to lie beside me.
- "Did you like that, luv?", I kissed him passionately, in reply. But I hadn’t finished. I wanted to make him happy. Now it was his turn.
I started kissing his torso, playing also a little bit with his nipples. He moaned softly and I went crazy at that. Then I kissed my way down to his navel and played with it a little bit. But he was too aroused as to resist that, so he grabbed my hair and pushed me downwards until I came face to face to his dick. God was it gorgeous! At least it was 9 inches long! And there in front of me I thought it belonged to a God! And in a way it did. John was my God! He still is but so many things have happened since then... Anyway, back then I couldn’t resist John, so I started to caress his dick. He moaned, and I looked up to see he had his eyes closed. Then I proceeded to do what I knew he loved. First I put little kisses on the verge of it, with my tongue going in circles all around its head. Then I put it all in my mouth until I thought it will go down to my throat. I started moving my mouth up and down, up and down and the only thing I heard was John moaning. He was very aroused and when he arched his back I knew he had come. I immediately felt his warm sperm fill my mouth. My first reaction was that of nausea. That was the first time his sperm was near my mouth, but it was too late to do something else that swallow it. Moreover, John would be offended if I didn’t do so, so I swallowed it.
- "Oh, fuck, luv! I love this!", he was saying. I went up to kiss him and what I said came directly from my heart.
- "Next time we’ll make love". He smiled at me and kissed me. Yes, I couldn’t play this game any more. I loved John and I felt the need of feeling it inside me. And I had the feeling that if I kept saying ‘NO’ to lovemaking, then he would go for it somewhere else. John and the other three had all the girls they wanted, why would John want to wait for a girl who couldn’t make love to him? I decided to risk,
We were both lying there, exhausted. John lit up a cigarette and stood there smoking. The room was dark and in silence.
- "I’m going to the bathroom", I informed him. He didn’t say anything, just stretched an arm and stroke my breast. I went to the bathroom and I turned on the light. The bathroom was connected to another room that any other of the guys shared. It wasn’t George, because this morning, when I had gone to see him, I had to walk past a few doors. But then I started hearing someone moaning and some sighs. I stood still, wanting to hear more and more.
- "Oh, yeah, baby, keep moving!!", that was... Oh, no, it couldn’t be! It was Paul!!
- "Oh, Paul, sing something for me! Ahhh, move faster, babe!", that was a feminine voice. I was bewildered. I couldn’t believe it! What kind of respect was that for Eli!! I was so angry at the same time. The stupid bitch that was shagging Paul kept on asking him for a song while they fucked, and I couldn’t stand it any more, I went back to John.
- "John...", he only made a strange noise. But this was serious so I turned on the light. He then looked at me, blinking a couple of times so that his eyes became used to the light. I sat on the bed next to him. "I think Paul is... You know... Paul is,,,"
- "What? Fucking? Luv, he didn’t go to the playboy club to play dress, you see..." Oh, it wasn’t funny. Eli was also John’s friend. I frowned, and John saw my face and reached me: "Luv, Macca is like that, there’s nothing we can do about it".
- "But you promised Eli...", John stopped me.
- "Hey, I didn’t promise anything to anybody. Eli knew what she got herself into when she started going out with him, you know. He was already cheating on Jane, why shouldn’t he do the same to Eli?" That hurt. That really hurt. I never thought John would talk like that. My face gave my away. "Ok", said John, more calmed, "don’t say anything to Eli nor to Paul, right? I’ll talk to both when it comes to it, OK?"
- "You have to tell Eli first", I was serious. He nodded and then got up.
- "Right, I’ll talk to Eli first. Now I’m going to join the rest in the suit room. Why don’t you go and phone Edu now, luv? They must be home!", I looked at my watch. It was 2.00 am in America, maybe early morning in England... Ok, I’ll do it. John went to the bathroom and I got dressed. I went out through a different door, I didn’t want the people in the suite room to know what John and I had done. But then I thought of all the problems I would have going downstairs on my own and then coming back. I definitely needed someone to be with me. Much to my inconvenience, I had to go to the suite room. I spotted Neil talking to Brian and I went to him:
- "Neil, I must do a phone call..." I didn’t need to say anything else. He went with me.
- "I’ll go with you", and then we both went out to the long corridor. We walked in silence for a minute, but I looked at Neil with the corner of my eye every now and then and he had a funny face.
- "What’s up, Neil?" He then burst out in laughter.
- "Oh, nothing, luv, it’s just... Well, you should have heard the comments George and Ringo were doing about you two, you know". I blushed. This was too much. Neil saw me and held me by the shoulders. We finally made it downstairs undisturbed, something miraculous. It was quite late at night, but there were still some fans outside the Plaza. I spotted the telephone and made the phone call. I phoned Edu’s number. Two rings, three rings, four rings and finally Tessa’s voice on the hook. I hang up instinctively. Neil saw me and had to ask: "What’s up?"
- "There’s nobody at home", but I had to phone again because my friends already knew that if I hang up when Tessa spoke, I would phone five minutes later and they knew one of them had to pick up the phone. So I phoned again, but it was Tessa again who picked up the phone. Again I hang up. I started to worry. That was quite strange, but decided to walk upstairs again. "No luck", I informed Neil. So we went upstairs without much trouble and when we arrived at the twelfth floor, we saw a stunning and gorgeous blonde girl coming out of Paul’s room. Oh, so that was the bitch who was screwing Paul! She walked past us and Neil had to turn to look at her. He whistled when she was about to enter the lift we had left open. I frowned. All this bloody girls were only looks and no brain and I hated myself for getting involved with a bunch of guys who were also concerned with looks. Wouldn’t Eli be a thousand times better than that bitch? I started walking faster towards the suite room and Neil had remained behind.
- "Hwy, luv! Wait a minute!" I turned round.
- "What for? Don’t you want to go and get her to your bed? Now she’s free, after shagging Paul now you can have your turn!" Neil looked at me with puzzled eyes. But I didn’t care. I just went to the suit room and informed John that was going to bed. He kissed me and smiled at me but that was all. I said good night to everybody and went to sleep.
