Ponsonby has always been an unusual parish, not least because the
Bishop has always lived here, and the parish has really formed
around him. But it is unusual in the number of religious houses and
services that have been part of it since the earliest days. Above
all, it has always been a very friendly parish, where Catholics know
one another and work together in sports clubs, guilds, and
societies. Starting off as a mix of French. Irish, English and Maori
.... it is now a mix of their descendants plus Tongan, Samoan and
Korean
