From Jim:
Thanks, everyone!

Paul, congratulations on your super stock victory and I hope you have a speedy recovery from your cold!  Thanks for your hospitality.

I really enjoyed our race last night.  Spyder Speedway is a very challenging road track that keeps us all on our toes.  I think everyone of us was focused on a particular challenge.  Gene was delighted to have a very competitive car but concerned about passing tech and he worked hard to accomplish that goal.  You're in business now, Gene.  In all the excitement, I forgot to ask to see Richard's car.  I think he made his own body posts something I think that only Mike and Todd have done.  In my last conversation with Richard, doing Lexan bodies was still aways off.  I didn't realize that Richard would have a car ready and made sure that I had one for him--not necessary.  The lexan body came out looking really nice.  I was very impressed with Richard's driving.  Good show!  Things looked good for Mike in practice with consistent 3.4's in 10 laps but some technical difficulties got in his way.  As usual, Tim did his homework, setting up a 2 lane "Spida" to assist with setup.  My visit to the "Spida" helped me get ready for the race.  My own challenge has been to translate my driving style to a Tomy-based track.  Improving my performance on plastic track is what I want to work on this year.  As Paul intimated in a recent e-mail, I had been overthinking my strategy for racing on the Spyder.  I finally used a basic slammed setup with a normal 7/22 gear setup, .320/.420 using soft tires for the front and the BSRT tan tires for the rear and a simple BSRT hot stock (148).  The key to a new-found comfort level was Paul's suggestion to go with a Professor Motor controller--that made all of the difference.

One of the very satisfying things about this hobby is learning new things and making personal breakthroughs.  It felt wonderful when I finally learned how to put together a fast car on purpose and not as the result of a happy accident.  Last night, I finally found a baseline that I can work with for future improvements--the PM controller and the CS & SS setups.  I also finally saw my SS car get into the 3.4's in practice something I didn't expect to see for quite some time.  Since it is really all about the body, I saw another high bar last night--Paul's very nicely painted Aston-Martin.  In my opinion, that was a concours winner and the most realistic looking race body that I have seen in the club to date.  Nicely done, Paul.

From Tim:
Very enjoyable race.  Very competitive.  Good job Jim and Paul!

Jim met his mark of 100 laps to claim Club Stock.  Excellent driving Jim.  Paul put on a clinic in the white lane in the last heat with 30 LAPS!  Mike earned the fastest lap award with a 3.679 in white followed by myself with 3.708, Jim with 3.753 and Paul with 3.756 all in the white lane.  Rich did a great job staying close to the leaders with 89 laps just 4 laps back from third and only 5 from second.  I was pacing Richard during the warm up session and he was doing so well I was wondering if I would be able to hold him off during the race.  Turns out, not by very much.  Gene was so excited just passing tech.  With just a little more work that club stock car will be tuned to suit your driving style.  Just finding a rhythm can make all the difference in how your car handles.  The high lap totals is a testament to everyone doing a great marshalling job.  Thanks.

Paul simply dominated in Super Stock.  He also turned the fastest lap in the white lane in 3.627 with myself 3.699, then Mike 3.782 and Jim 3.786 again all in the white lane.  The gutter lane is his only obstacle to keep him below 25 laps in any lane.  Jim's car was incredibly fast.  27 laps in yellow is unheard of. This car is going to win a bunch of races.  Mike made it to the podium the hard way with hard driving.  Gene did much better this race keeping tabs on the pack only 8 laps from second place!!  Very well done Geno!  It was unfortunate we could not convince Richard to race with us in Super Stock.  Our collective thanks for staying and helping to marshal.  I know we get caught up in the moment at times but all in all you did a great job under the pressure of a whole race.

Paul, thanks for hosting the race while being far from healthy.  You should just let us know and we can reschedule for the following weekend.  I propose it should be understood by the club that unforseen circumstances or sickness of the host may postpone the race one week.
