| Date: Frirday 1/14/04 Time: 7:30 pm Place: RCR Speedway Attendees: Jim, Tim, Mike, Chris, George, Paul Race #5 in the SacHO Season Series is now a pleasant memory. What a race! This was definitely the most intense race of the series thus far. It would be a fair statement to say that the performance bar has been raised-fourth and fifth place finishes would have been good enough for first and second at the opening race of the series. Jim, Tim and Mike were podium finishers for both club stock and super stock-they just finished in a different order for the two classes. Here's a look at the podium for both classes: CLUB STOCK PODIUM 1st Jim Person - 173 laps 2nd Tim Lang - 167 laps 3rd Mike Leech - 160 laps SUPER STOCK PODIUM 1st Tim Lang - 169 laps 2nd Mike Leech - 162 laps 3rd Jim Person - 159 laps TEAM COLORSHere's something new-team colors! Tim, Chris and Jim featured multiple bodies all painted identically, each in a different color scheme. Tim's team was sporting Teal with a white stripe, Chris's team was yellow and white and Jim's team colors were red with a white stipe. Two other racers (Mike & Paul) fielded cars in their standard colors, yellow and green respectively. All bodies were custom painted by their team owners with the exception of a Cooney body and a Wizzard Storm body. QUALIFYINGNew for SacHO is the sudden interest in qualifying as expressed Friday night and after the race with posts to SacHOGroup. I have zero experience in this area but have read numerous race reports in my magazines about races with "A", "B" and "C" mains, all preceded by qualifying heats. I'm still not sure how qualifying will work with our little round robin format. I had thought it might me nice to use Lane-Master's "auto-qualifying" feature to randomize the race order. Todd sent out a link to the on-line manual for Lane-Master for instructions on how to use Lane-Master for qualifying. I am sure that more discussion will follow. MARSHALLINGMarshalling was another hot topic for the SacHOGroup forum. More than a few of us felt bad about fat fingers, hair-trigger track calls and cars that came off faster than we could put them back on. I achieved a first in this area and literally "single-handedly" took out the entire field-I guess that qualifies as a track call. J It is noteworthy that the marshals themselves expressed the concern while no complaints were heard from the recipients of the marshal services-a clear testament to the sportsmanship in our club! NOTES FROM THE SLOT OBSERVERGeorge has a new race box-a Plano 737 (just like mine). He also has some new equipment including his third Wizzard Storm (there may have been a fourth-not sure) and parts to build a modifiedPaul burned up his second modified after the race. Bummer! Jim learned that the paint on his new team color cars went on a little to thick, knocking .2 off of his lap times. He demonstrated to those present a 2.167 lap time with a green race body similar in appearance to Paul's. Paul graciously offered to run another color but Jim did not wish to impose on Paul or delay the inauguration of his team colors. Hey, 2.3's are still good! Chris won a door prize sponsored by the Lumberyard Raceway parts depot. If this observer had a longer attention span, he could tell you what was selected. SAME ENDINGDespite blazing new trails in some areas, in the end it was quite the same as always-Just plain funlet's do it again! |
