The opening race of the 2004-05 Season Series is now history and the big winner was SacHO! Our club is definitely showing some revitalization with two new members and a return of some veterans. SacHO was almost at full strength. We missed Tim, but he was where he was supposed to be--with his wife on her birthday. Happy Birthday Mrs. Lang!
The first event was Club Stock featuring defending champion Billy Bowerman who wiped the floor with the field in last year's race, finishing 27 laps ahead of 1st place...beating us with a SG+! That was the race that sparked an all-out effort to improve our G3 setups. Judging from Friday's night's club stock race, the G3 is back on top. Only 12 laps separated 1st place from 5th place. Congratulations to Mark Owyang on a fine race, a great 1st place finish and for beating second place Billy by 7 laps who finished only a half lap ahead of Jim Person and only 3 laps ahead of fourth place Paul Haak. That's what I call parity--the club stock series championship is up for grabs with at least a half dozen favorites. After race #1, it looks like club stock will be a strongly contested series.
The next event was super stock and the panthers stole the show with 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 5th all panthers! Congratulations to Todd Hinton on a fine race and for a 1st place finish! Mark Owyang finished 7 laps behind Todd for 2nd place and Jim Person followed with 3rd a half lap in front of fourth Billy Bowerman. Interesting...Billy and Jim finished with the same lap total in both races.
Parting thought...if the panthers stole the super stock show, it was not because it was the fastest car. The G3 is definitely faster but not yet dialed in for super stock. Mike's car is really close and he was setting a blistering pace until his car had mechanical difficulties.
