Location: The traction magnets are located on the bottom of the car, just behind the motor magnets and just in front of the rear tires.
Function: Holds the car to the metal rails for increased traction.
Brands: Most traction magnets used are stock to the car and made of ceramic. Stronger traction magnets are made out of polymer by BSRT.
Tips: The stronger the magnet the more hold the car will have. However, some magnets have strong areas as well as weak areas. The magnet should be strong on the part closest to the rail. Some people shim these magnets by putting layers of tape on the top of them. This forces the magnet slightly closer to the rail, and reduces vibration.
Test your stock magnets by picking up as many washers/nuts etc. as you can. Keep the strongest. |
