Purchasing a Panther
The #4710 "Kit" car is what you need if you want to build it.... The "Grey" chassis is the one you want, the Pink seems to be not as good. The RTR SS kit is a great deal at 70 bucks.... the extra $10 gets it built by Tony Porcelli himself. I think the new cars come with the better traction mags as well.... Call Tony and find out what your getting. The Panthers are a little finicky to set- up, they work well when you get to know them.
Pinions
If it was a RTR SS car from Slottech, it comes with a TOMY pinion..... This might be a better combo for Tony's Crowns than the Tyco/Slottech combo... Is the mesh set right? There is some spacing you can do to get better results. If you are chewing up gears at a rapid pace it sounds like the mesh is too loose. Also, I've found the gear boss on the hollow axles will slip around if you dont use a little loctite(purple) to set it, this will cause some gear problems.
