On Sunday, 9 February 2003, the successful first informal meeting of the social club for South African residents who have made close ties with Croatia was held at the Sammy Marks Museum in Pretoria.
This function was enthusiastically supported by twenty South Africans from a wide variety of backgrounds some of whom had traveled vast distances to attend. All however had the same interest in common - the beauty and potential of Croatia.
This initiative was supported by the Croatian Embassy as well as members of the local Croatian community.
The South African Social Club in Croatia is a non profit organization for people who have strong connections with Croatia in the field of yachting, regular travel, economy, science and technology, student exchange etc. The purpose of the club is to develop fellowship and mutual interest amongst its members and to assist one another in achieving a better understanding of Croatia.
Social gatherings will be held in Croatia as well as in South Africa - the first one in Croatia will be held on the island of Korcula in August 2003.
The club will be registered in Croatia where a regular venue will be set up in the future as well as a permanent representation in Johannesburg. A web based communication network is currently being developed whereby members can interact.
In July and August 2003, meetings were held in Korcula and in Zagreb.
