Voters Ditch Shannon
By Kathryn Torpy

TURKAN's tantrum did her no harm Australian viewers have voted to keep the Sydney social worker in the Big Brother house.

Fitness instructor Shannon Cleary was last night the fourth person to be voted from the Gold Coast's Dreamworld compound her eviction secured another week in the house for Turkan Aksoy, who had viewers on tenterhooks last week when she demanded producers let her off the reality program.

Aksoy said she wanted out after producers added three "intruders" to the house on Tuesday night. The 30-year-old changed her mind after speaking with a psychologist.

Musician Mirabai, IT worker Peter and promo producer Alex also were up for eviction, but viewers voted for Cleary to leave.

Not even the support of the Australian Labor Party could save Cleary, a part-time television presenter who has appeared on Ten's Good Morning Australia.

Young Labor groups had urged supporters to vote to retain the 31-year-old when it was revealed she is the daughter of former Wran-government minister Michael Cleary.

Cleary was in tears as she left the house last night, but told the Dreamworld crowd she was ready to leave the show.

"It's Mother's Day and it's a good day to be outside to see everyone," she said.

On the back of the Turkan drama last week, Channel 10 beat Seven in the national ratings for the fourth time in the past five weeks.

Ten said last night the win was the most convincing overall ratings performance since its 1994 telecast of the Commonwealth Games.
