| 9 July 2002 Tailor-Made for Festival By Des Partridge BIG Brother 2 contestant Mirabai Peart doesn't have to worry about what she will wear to the opening of the 11th Brisbane International Film Festival tonight. The Sydney music student has been invited by Brisbane designer Richard de Chazal to wear a dress he designed last week, inspired by the opening night film, Festival in Cannes. Mirabai, 21, had a trial fitting yesterday, showing off the mauve-and-pink gown made of deconstructed silk and chiffon which de Chazal said was "young and funky", and appropriate for a festival opening. The gown, which has a 3m train, will be worn with knee-high black leather boots from Brisbane outlet Verge. Mirabai said appearing on Big Brother gave her valuable life experience, and she was getting used to being recognised by people who had watched show. "It's like everyone who saw the show regularly is part of my extended family," said Mirabai, the eldest of five children. Her invitation to the film festival will mean a reunion with Brisbane contestant Damian Hoo, her first Big Brother house romantic partner, who will be another BIFF guest tonight. Tonight, Mirabai will play the violin in a "Cannes on Queen" event outside the Regent where most of the 100 BIFF films will be screened. The festival runs until July 21. |
