Marty in the BB House

30 June 2002
Friday Night Antics

The housemates stated doing some serious bonding over a couple of beers. It all started off with a chat about anger management. Both the boys revealed that theyd had counselling.

Marty responded to Petes story by explaining his own counselling experience. I went to a psych for self-mutilisation (sic), he said. You asked me what that scar is on my leg thats from me getting a piece of glass and going [mimes gouging his own leg] on my own leg. You see these dots on my stomach? Thats from me getting a cigarette and putting it out on my stomach. A lot of it is just me, inflicting it on myself, for no reason. For me its just been the easiest way to deal with anything Ive ever had. Marty admitted he had never spoken about his self-mutilation before and had generally been a happy kid. And both boys said they now deal with their anger in different ways, such as playing football or going to the gym.

Martys anger seems to stem largely from his parents divorce. He also spoke up about an incident where his privacy was invaded. "The thing that has fucked me off most in my life is that the first girlfriend I ever had wrote a letter to me about four pages long, saying a lot of deep stuff, including that she was you know [motions something with his hand] and someone went through my bag and found it and photocopied it and put it back in my bag. And I found it out in the sheep yards about three weeks later the photocopied version of it.

Marty then shocked the other housemates by telling them that he wanted to marry Jess. It just made me realise shes an awesome girl, he said, referring to the last week without her in the house. And while he said he still had to sort out something out there, obviously referring to his relationship with Jonelle, he said Jess has been sensational to me. I miss her so much already and its only been a week.

26 June 2002 (Day 80)
Marty is talking about his relationship with Jess and his outside girlfriend Jonelle. He says that if he had met Jess in everyday life, he would have been able to tell Jonelle that he didn't want to be with her any more but because he is in the house, that was not possible. He just told Sahra and Pete that Jonelle should know, deep down in her heart, that things weren't very good in the weeks leading up to Marty going into the house.

Marty then continues to talk about the problems he faces when he gets out of the house and must sort things out with Jonelle. He is also worried about what his family has been through since he's been in the house. He's worried his dad has had to leave or sell the farm.

Marty And Sahra Flirts or Friends?
Is it simply a way to pass the time? Something more serious? Or are we seeing pure strategy at work?

Jess and Marty were Australias hottest couple until the voting audience ripped them apart by evicting Jess on Sunday. Since Sunday night, the two have been all touchy-feely, with slaps, tickles and a bit of bed sharing on the side. Has Marty already forgotten his skating soulmate? And what happened to Sahras revelation that her love for her outside girlfriend is stronger than ever?

Marty and Sahras behaviour in the past 24 hours in particular has set tongues wagging. Last nights late head massage session took a somewhat kinky turn when the Orgasmatron was used for things other than cranial comfort.

But maybe, with only one week to go, both Sahra and Marty are playing the game as hard as they can and are using touch tactics to win votes. Sahra may be thinking that Marty is a likely winner based on his success at avoiding eviction in the past, and could be bonding with him to make the voting audience less likely to vote her out. Siding with Marty could also be a way of ensuring Pete and Marty dont form a special bond, making Sahra the eviction target this Sunday. Likewise, Marty might see Pete as his biggest threat so siding with Sahra would once again give the audience to vote out the third wheel.

Then again, Sahra and Marty are old friends in the house and their sudden tactile tendencies may simply be harmless comforting under stressful times. Marty talks constantly about his love for Jess from saying goodnight in her honour, to smelling her scent in the sheets, to talking about how much she loved his kisses. Her memory is still very fresh in his heart. He constantly farts around Sahra, which would suggest a sense of being totally comfortable rather than an attempt to pick up.

Despite some rather suspect behaviour, it seems this coupling is merely the strengthening of an already close bond in these final, high-pressure days. There is a possibility that game play is their motivation but as far as an affair goes, these two are both sensible enough not to do anything as foolish as cheat on their partners this close to the end especially Marty, who already has one jilted girlfriend on the outside to contend with when he finally leaves.

25 June 2002 (Day 79)

Pete asked Marty where do you fit in to these social stereotypes and Marty said "I'm a country boy who works on a farm and plays football".

Marty Mourns His Missus
Im a little sad I guess - actually pretty sad. She was a big part of me in this house. I enjoyed every time I had with her, he said. "She's hopeless, that girl. She'd leave her head behind if it wasn't screwed on.

19 June 2002 (Day 73)
Marty said he never goes to the movies and doesn't own a video player either.

17 June 2002 (Day 71)
The housemates are discussing holiday destinations, in particular their experiences in America. Marty says that when he went to visit his cousins in the US, they took him to school for show and tell. The teacher had prepared a slide show in his honour. Marty says it was all very Crocodile Dundee, so he played up to it.

Marty and Jess are having that dreaded conversation about how many people they've slept with. Anybody should know that there's no happy ending to these conversations. Marty has said eight names but he has 11 at least. There's a couple he doesn't want to mention either. They don't know whether they should count their first time partners as well.

Aaron says about the Mastercard Challenge:
The highlight was Marty eating the watermelon as he was smashing them - nice one brother!!

11 June 2002 (Day 65)
Marty likes pepermint choc chip ice-cream.

9 June 2002
The housemates have a late night discussion about when Marty first saw Mirabai. They were next to each other on the stage on Day 1 and he thought Mirabai was "hot"!  They reminised about how Jess wanted Damo and Damo went for Mira! And how Marty thought Mira was good looking and was upset when Damo eventually kissed Mira and then he ended up with Jess.

19 May 2002 (Day 42)

Marty says hes a Kevin Costner fan.

27 April 2002 (Day 20)
Marty and Jessicas carpet romp was interrupted by Nathan , who decided it was time to carry Marty to bed. Marty fell and bumped his head on the chest of drawers. Nathan said, Oh my god! Hes dead, cracking himself up. Marty came round and was fine.

25 April 2002 (Day 18)
Marty said at university he hangs around the first year students because guys in his year have started settling down and studying.

Marty says his sister has a photo of him dressed in an orange tutu and he looks good.

Two members of the same family are starring in reality TV shows - Sciona on
Survivor and her nephew Marty on Big Brother! She's the one who inspired Marty to make the eye-catching audition tape that got him noticed, following her own successful audition for Survivor ...

What advice did you give Marty about his audition video for BB?
We talked about it quite a bit. I said, "You've got to take off your shirt and show you're athletic - why don't you kick the footy around and shear a sheep?" I also knew he had to grab their attention with how the tape arrived, so he sent it to the producers wrapped in wool he'd shorn!

Do you think Marty will do well?
I think so. I was delighted he got in, considering we'd talked about the process so much. He's a lovely person - good-looking, friendly, outgoing and a great sportsman. People naturally love him. He won't be irritating - it's hard to be when you're so adorable.

Friends of WA agribusiness student and farmer Marty, on the other hand, will be surprised if he doesn't get his kit off. "He comes across as your all-round country boy, but he's pretty onto it," says Julie Young, 25, a barmaid in Marty's home town of Toodyay, 50km north of Perth. "He's definitely the entertainment when you go out for the evening," confirms friend Kate Robinson, 22. "He loves to take his gear off." Adds Dave Gordon, 40, of the talented Toodyay Football Club midfielder known as "Nugget": "I heard a few weeks ago about Nugget at Spencer's Brook ... all the students go there drinking and apparently Nugget got into strife for stripping off and running around the bar."

Marty, who shares a house in Toodyay with his sister Fiona and revealed on big Brother that he has a girlfriend in Perth, "likes a big feed of meat," says his mum, Anne, who is divorced. (He'd do well to stick with roomie Wagga Wagga-based Aaron Benton, 24, who recently left the navy after four years as a chef.) "When I spoil him in the wintertime I make him huge pots of creamed rice. He loves it." Early this week, Marty - an early favourite to win the show's $250,000 prize money - listened wide-eyed as his TV housemate, Sydney business consultant and part-time body-piercer Sahra Kearney, 23, explained the genesis of her lesbianism.
"Everyone will love him or hate him."

16 April 2002 (Day 9)
Marty and Jess pashed last night. The cute couple appear to be feeling quite bad about it today. Jess doesn't want to live a life of regret and is worried how the public will perceive her for snogging a taken man. Talking about all the kissing last night. Marty said kissing Jess was just a game. Jess said: "So you wouldn't kiss me ordinarily, then?" to which Marty paused and replied "Ok, it wasn't just a game".

7 April 2002 (Last Day Before Going into the BB House)
On my last day of freedom, I just relaxed and tried to imagine what the next 24 hours would be like. Man, I cant wait.
