| 5 November 2002 Splitsville in Soapie Land THEY were the hottest soapie couple in town, but Neighbours co-stars Delta Goodrem and Blair McDonough are no longer an item. The two split last week, and both are privately devastated about the breakup, which came out of the blue to industry observers. Rumours about the couple's status started at Derby Day on Saturday when Blair arrived with brother Ryan, with no Delta in sight. Delta, whose single Born to Try will be released next week, told the Herald Sun last month that Blair was her best friend and an immense help when she moved to Melbourne from her hometown of Sydney for the Neighbours role. "He became such a good friend when I got here," she said. Delta's publicist, Maria Farmer, confirmed the couple were no longer boyfriend and girlfriend. "There are not together at the moment, but they remain close friends," she said. Both Blair and Delta are two of the most heavily committed young stars on Neighbours, and with the launch of Delta's singing career, maintaining a relationship would have been difficult. Blair will head to the UK soon for the pantomime season, where he will play the title character in Dick Whittington. Delta recently met Sony boss Tommy Mottola and had impressed many in the music industry with her Mariah Carey-style vocals. She turns 18 on Saturday. |
