Holden gives a sluggish performance as the American artist who falls inlove with a Hong Kong prostitute (Kwan).
He has already begun to age prematurely and it is obvious that he is not very interested in the story.
Hong Kong is lavishly filmed and the film was a good financial success.

Realistic Spy flick offers one of the best performances of Holden as the true life character of a Swedish oil executive who is blackmailed into becoming an agent for the Allies in Nazi Germany. His character is not a glamourous Secret Agent who takes on the entire Gestapo and makes love to a score of beautiful women with no hill effects on his person. holden's character narrates the story much through the film and one is really engrosed inhis exploits and in how he will escape out of the country in the film climax.
