What to do if stung by a Jellyfish
www.emedicine.com/wild/topic33.htm
Jellyfish are free-swimming gelatinous creatures. They tend to be bell-shaped with tentacles extending from their body. These "nematocysts" are capable of penetrating the skin and can ooze venom long after the creature is deceased. This causes a number of symptoms, including:

*Stinging pain
*Annoying rash
*Burning sensation
*Welts
If left untreated, or if the reaction is severe, these symptoms can lead into:
*Nasea
*Back or abdominal pain
*Vomiting
*Coma
*Death
If stung by a jellyfish, treat:
*Rinse with sea water. Fresh water will intensify the pain.
*Do not apply ice immediately. Again, pain will increase if this is done.
*Remove stingers with tweezers
*Add isopropyl alcohol or vinegar to wound
*Add shaving cream, mud or baking soda paste to wound.
*Immobilize affected area. Movement may cause venom to spread.
*Wound should be wrapped similarly to that of a sprained extremity.
*Leave bandages until medical assistance is obtained.
*Hydrocortizone cream can be applied to wound to allieve itching.
*CPR may be essential.
Whatever you do, don't panic.

I paniced. I am highly allergic to seafood, and have never seen a jellyfish before! The only solution that was offered was that of peeing on my foot. though I didn't believe them. After 3 people said that was the method of allieving the pain, I said I'd do it, but I didn't have to go.

A real friend will pee on your foot.

Brandi offered to do the honorous task for me, though it still weirded me out. Then, the Italian waiter said he would help, to which I replied "No one will be peeing on my foot!"

He took me and Brandi to the bar, offered her a drink. He got a coke and lemon. We then went to the docked boat, and he put the lemon-coke combination on my swelling foot. I liked that alternative better than the yellow stream on my 5 little piggies.

Lessons learned?
     If stung, don't panic.

If you panic, hopefully your friends will not.

There is always a better alternative than urinating on one's foot.

The Italian word for jellyfish is "Medusa"

Use coke and lemon on a sting. The acidity will counteract the venom and the coldness of
the coke will allieve the sting. At least you can drink the remaining Coke.
