I particulary like this photo of me and Lori in  this stone archway.

This was while we were visiting one of the many churches in Italy. It never ceases to amaze me that these buildings are several hundreds of years old, yet have withstood the test of time. My apartment complex is 6 years old, and it's falling apart!
Dinner anyone?

(Those are cucumbers & fish.)

On our way up Mt. Etna (which was an active volcano that happend to be smoking...rather disconcerning), we saw this house. I took photos of it to demonstrate how the flow of lava can distroy everything in it's path.

It turns out that this house wat NOT overtaken by the lava flow. It was just never finished....
journal entry for etna
However, this house WAS overtaken by the lava flow. I now understand why housing property was so cheap in this region!

The road, as you can see, is carved into the lava flow from the 1998 eruption.

Mt. Etna last erupted in 2002. I always thought volcanoes spewed for a week at most. This mountain erupted from October 2002-January, 2003. In fact, the rocks were still so hot, the soles of my shoes were incredibly soft. Our tour guide dropped a newspaper, and it caught on fire.
