| OSTARA |
| Named after a Germanic Goddess, this holiday reminds us of our innocence. Persephone has returned to us, as the maiden, young and innocent, and growing into womanhood. It will not be long until the Goddess will meet her lover at Beltaine. For now, she is content with smelling flowers and running through the meadows. She finds the simplest pleasures in life are the most fullfilling. Lying on her back making pictures in the clouds, picking a fragrent bouquet of flowers to give to her mother. Playing and singing like young children do. So innocent, so pure, so magickal. For a brief time every year we all can experience this kind of return to innocence. So let us enjoy our time of rebirth each and every year. Spring Equinox, celebrated on about March 20th, is a day when light & dark are equal. However, from this time forth, darkness will diminish, and light will rule once again. The sun has brought back life and warmth to the earth, the winds will blow from the south, bringing with them warm breezes and feathered friends. Animals in hybernation begin to awaken. The trees and plants bring forth new buds of life. Daffodils are blooming, birds are singing, brooks are babbling, all is alive and singing with joy and happiness. All life on earth is emerging from it's long sleep, to welcome and celebrate the goddess' return from the Underworld. |
