| Historical Marker for Sabinal Texas that was built 1967 states: Sabinal named by Spanish for Rio Sabina and Cypress trees along the river. The town was founded in 1854 by Thomas B. Hammer who operated a stage shop and was the first Post Master. Despite Indian Depredations, the town thrived as settlers built homes, and a radilroad reached here in 1881. In 1906, the town was incorporated and the telephone service was started. City water works and volunteer fire department was organized in 1907. Sabinal Christian College was founded in 1907. Closed in 1917. Cotton industry was foremost in the early 1900's. Today (1967) farming and ranching are flourishing in the community. Click here for more... |

| Note from the Editor: HI Everybody! This is a non-profit page listing anything and everything I could find out about Sabinal, TX. Both of my parents are from there and it appears I am related to half the town by blood or marriage (Matheny, Furr, White, Kincaid, Driscoll, Smith). Back in 2002, you can imagne my disappointment when I realized that Sabinal didn't have a webpage. So, now I am making one for the town. If you find a business on here it is because they are in Sabinal, not because they paid for the spot. If you know of a business or an organization that I forgot to add, tell me and I will. | Just wanted to let everyone know about the BIG SABINAL HOMECOMING (Next one will be Oct 21st 2006). The City of Sabinal will have been incorporated for 100 years. It will be a BIG Celebration with a Bon Fire on Thursday Night, Football Game on Friday Night and on Saturday we will have a BIG PARADE through town at 10 AM and BBQ Lunch after the parade.
