Gundam Galaxy Timeline AD 1957 The USSR launches Sputnik, the first man-made satellite. AD 1961 The USSR launches the first manned spacecraft, Vostok 1, into Earth orbit; Major Yuri Gargarin becomes the first man in space. AD 1969 Professor Gerard O'Neill proposes the construction of cylindrical space colonies. O'Neill's designs are later used to construct real colonies. The American Apollo 11 mission lands on the moon. AD 1993 Small, localized wars break out across the globe, threatening to escalate into a third World War. The crisis fuels concerns about the problems of overpopulation, pollution and scarcity of resources. AD 1999 The Earth Federation is formed, and an ambitious space colonization program is announced. UC 0001 The Universal Century (UC) calendar is adopted as full-scale emigration to space begins. UC 0027 The first permanent lunar settlement, Von Braun City, is constructed. UC 0040 40% of the human population has emigrated to space. UC 0044 50% of the human population now lives in space. Advocates of "Eleism" begin claiming that man's duty is to leave Earth, the cradle of life, to restore its immaculate state. UC 0045 The asteroid Juno, is moved from the asteroid belt into Earth orbit, so that it can be mined for colony construction, and is renamed "Luna Two." Doctor T.Y. Minovski moves to Side 3. Here, he helps convert the Side 3 colonies to a space-efficient sealed design and founds the MinovskiPhysics Society. UC 0046 Jion Daikun formulates the philosophy of "Contolism," a spacecolonist's version of nationalism. UC 0050 9 billion people -- 80% of the human population -- have now emigrated to space. UC 0058 Jion Daikun, leader of Side 3, proclaims the Side's independence and establishes the "Jion Republic." UC 0065 Doctor T.Y. Minovski publishes his theory of Minovski physics, predictingthe existence of the Minovski particle. UC 0068 Jion zum Daikun dies, apparently by assassination. UC 0069 Daikun's advisor, Degin sod Zabi, proclaims himself Duke; the Jion Republic becomes the Duchy of Jion. Over the next ten years, tensions between the Federation and Jion mount steadily. Jion researchers verify the existence of the Minovski particle. UC 0073 Jion researchers complete the MS-01, the first "mobile suit." UC 0075 Jion researchers complete the MS-05 Zaku I, the first combat-ready mobile suit. Thanks to Minovski physics, the Zaku incorporates a super-compact thermonuclear reactor. UC 0079 The "One-Year War" opens as the Jion fleet decimates Sides 1, 2 and 4. Forcing a space colony out of orbit, Jion drops it onto the Earth, where it impacts on Australia. A second attempted colony drop turns into the Battle of Ruum, the largest space battle in history, laying waste to Side 5. After the opening month of the war, in which half the human race is killed, both sides sign a treaty banning the use of weapons of mass destruction. Jion occupies half the surface of Earth, and a stalemate ensues. The Federation develops its own mobile suits, launches a counteroffensive against the Jion forces on Earth, and then begins a space campaign against the Jion's asteroid fortresses. The Zabi family are killed, and the Federation makes peace with Jion's civilian leadership. (Mobile Suit Gundam) UC 0080 The Jion Republic is restored, while many of the remnants of the Jion fleet go into hiding to await their revenge. UC 0083 With the Federation fleet once again at full strength, Zabi loyalists led by Aguille Delaz launch Operation Stardust. The restored Federation fleet is ravaged, and the Delaz fleet drops a colony onto North America. (Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 "Stardust Memory") The Titans, an elite branch of the Federal Forces, are formed to hunt down Jion renegades. UC 0085 The Titans massacre the entire population of a Side 1 colony to suppress an anti-Federation rally. UC 0087 The AEUG (Anti Earth United-nation Government), a civilian resistance organization, begins fighting against the Titans and eventually wins the support of the Federation. (Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam) UC 0088 In a three-way battle between the AEUG, the Titans, and a group of renegade Jions from the asteroid Axis, the Titans are wiped out. (Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam) The Federation's Taskforce Alpha battles a rebellious group of Titans-sympathizers, the New Desides. (Mobile Suit Gundam Sentinel) The Axis forces, now the "Neo Jions," occupy the Federation capital and carry out a colony drop on Ireland. The Federation meets their demand to turn Side 3 -- the Jion Republic -- over to them. (Mobile Suit Gundam Double Zeta) UC 0089 Divided by factional infighting, the Neo Jions destroy themselves. (Mobile Suit Gundam Double Zeta) UC 0092 A new Neo Jion faction is formed by Char Aznable. UC 0093 Char's Neo Jions bombard the Earth with asteroids in an attempt to bring on a "nuclear winter." They are defeated, their plan unsuccessful. (Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counterattack) UC 0100 The Federation begins to revoke the autonomy of the Jion Republic. UC 0103 Mafty, an anti-Federation guerrilla force, surfaces. UC 0104 The Federation increases its efforts to force illegal residents (i.e. those who are not government, military or civilian elite) off the Earth. UC 0105 Mafty is defeated and its leader, Hathaway Noah, is executed. (Mobile Suit Gundam Shining Hathaway) UC 0106 Construction of new colonies begins. The Crossbone Vanguard are founded. UC 0120 The Oldsmobile Army -- a surviving Jion faction based on Mars -- steals a protoype F90 Gundam mobile suit. (Mobile Suit Gundam Formula 90) UC 0123 The Crossbone Vanguard occupy the Frontier colonies of Side 4, rechristening Frontier IV as Cosmo Babylonia. Thanks to a pact with the Jupiter energy fleet, the Crossbone Vanguard hold the Federation's energy supply hostage and prevent Federation interference. (Mobile Suit Gundam Formula 91) UC 0128 Cosmo Babylonia collapses due to infighting and civil war. UC 0133 A Crossbone Vanguard faction wages war on the self-proclaimed "Jupiter Empire." (Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam) UC 0147 The Gachi party takes power in the Side 2 colony Amelia. UC 0148 The League Militaire is formed. UC 0149 Side 2 is declared the Zanscar Empire. UC 0152 Invading Earth, Zanscar's elite Yellowjackets occupy the city of Largane and establish a base there.
