| This Aptitude brings together a miscellany of powers, mostly dealing with the skills of warriors and rangers, but includes a number of other effects as well. This Aptitude is most commonly found among Humans and Nephilim who reside in the Woodland Kingdom. Shadowfast Shadowfast allows the character to go first in combat, or during other incidents where acting first is essential. The character spends 1 Willpower, and may automatically go first, despite Initiative ratings. If this is opposed by another character using Shadowfast or Fast Reaction (Level 1 Mindsight), then the two characters roll for Initiative as normal to see who goes first out. All other characters then act as normal, according to Initiative rolls. Grace of the Phoenix Grace of the Phoenix enhances the characters allure, and if coupled with the Attraction Aptitude, virtually none can resist her. To use the power (which only affects one target per use), spend 1 Vita and roll Charisma + Performance (difficulty of the targets Willpower). Upon success, the character gains +1 to dice to all Social rolls when interacting with the target. A Botch results in the target taking an instant dislike to the character, who is then 2 on all Social rolls concerning the target. Effects last until the end of the scene, although the impressions created might last longer. Reaction Strike This ability of Proeliatory allows the character to make immediate strikes back at her opponents after they strike her. Whenever she takes damage from any close combat attack, she may roll Wits + Instinct (difficulty 7). If successful, the character may make one simple attack back, even if she has already acted this turn. A Botch results in her being so shocked by the initial attack that she cannot act for a number of turns equal to (5 her Instinct). Fortitude of the Phoenix Fortitude of the Phoenix (especially if coupled with the Endurance Aptitude) can make someone so imbued very hard to kill. Whenever a character with Fortitude of the Phoenix is about to suffer damage that would otherwise kill her, she may spend 1 permanent Willpower and negate all the damage caused if it is Bashing or Lethal, or half if it is Aggravated. This power only works for physical damage, and has no effect on any damage that would only take the character to Incapacitated or above. Heartstrike Warriors of the Woodland Kingdom are taught to fight well, and those highly skilled in this Aptitude are even able to kill with one blow. The character with Heartstrike is granted one automatic success in melee combat on all rolls made to hit an opponent, as well as all relevant damage rolls. This automatic success may be used to counter a Botch. Blur The Blur ability makes the character slightly insubstantial, making her much harder to see and to hit in combat. Blur costs 1 Vita to use, and requires a Dexterity + Stealth roll (difficulty 7). Each success makes the power last for one turn, during which all rolls made to see and hit the Elf are at +2 difficulty. One With Nature At this level of Proeliatory, a character can completely blend in with her surroundings when in the wilderness. At the expenditure of 1 Vita, the Proeliator blends, like a chameleon, into the background so that it is almost impossible for her to be seen. All conscious attempts to see her are made at +2 difficulty, and the character trying to see her must score more successes that the characters Proeliatory rating. Life of the Phoenix The character may enter a state of semi-consciousness to heal grievous wounds. Doing so requires total rest; the Elf may not do anything else while in this state. While so rested, the Elf heals any damage she may have suffered at the following rates: Bashing 1 hour, Lethal 2 hours, Aggravated 4 hours. For example, an Elf who has suffered 2 Aggravated, 1 Lethal and 3 Bashing damage must rest for 13 hours total before she is completely restored to full health. When using Life of the Phoenix, the character heals first Bashing, then Lethal, and then Aggravated. If she is disturbed while resting, the cycle is broken and she does not gain any benefits from time not already spent on healing; for example, if a character has 1 Lethal and 1 Bashing damage, and rests for 2 and a half hours, she only heals the Bashing damage, since she has not fully completed the additional 2 hours required to heal the Lethal damage. Life of the Phoenix is a reflexive action, and may be used automatically when a character is Incapacitated (but not if she reaches the Dead health level). As long as she is Crippled or above, she may stop the meditative state at any time, whether voluntarily or not. Fingers of Judgement Extremely impressive, the Pride of the Woodland Kingdom allows the character to redirect a bolt of lightning at an opponent or opponents. This power can only be employed when lightning strikes, whether naturally or as a result of an Aptitude power. Using the Fingers of Judgement costs 3 Vita and requires a Manipulation + Quintessence roll (difficulty 7). Successes can be spent on any of the following aspects, on a one-for-one basis. * Double affected area (initial area is 1 square foot) * Double affected range (initial range is 1 foot) * Increase damage. Initially the lightning costs 1 Lethal damage, but successes may be spent to cause additional Lethal damage (1 success per level) or Aggravated damage (2 successes per level; the initial 1 Lethal caused may be counted as 1 success in this way), or any combination of the two types. The overall damage is caused to each victim caught by the lightning (i.e. it is not split between them, they all receive the total amount). If the lightning hits anything that is conductive (water, metal etc.) then any other characters also in contact with that surface is also affected, taking exactly the same amount of damage as the intended victim(s). Curse of the Phoenix Sustaining damage is always terrible, but a fail-safe is that a character can always heal it later. Not so when they are the victim of the Curse of the Phoenix, which prevents their bodies from healing, whether naturally or mystically. Curse of the Phoenix costs 4 Vita to use, and requires a Wits + Medicine roll (difficulty of the victims Stamina + 4). The number of successes rolled indicates how long the victim cannot heal, in any way, for. None No effect 1 One turn 2 One scene 3 24 hours 4 48 hours 5 1 week 6+ 1 month Curse of the Phoenix can only be broken prematurely by one of the following powers: Vita Totus 5: Undo, Mystic Touch 10: Cure All, Faith 10: Miracle or Blessings of Baados 10: Miracle of Baados. |
