Luthor Delane
(Jonathan)
< ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
Malkavian antitribu. Born to a penniless family in mid-nineteenth century London, Luthor Richard Delane has lived a sorry life. At age 8 he watched his parents and his sister murdered at the hands of a villainous Malkavian - though of course, at the time, he did not know his enemy was a Cainite, or even that Cainites existed. Luthor's life fell apart at that moment. Mood swings and violent tendencies began to taunt him, until they consumed him. On his 25th birthday, he was committed to one of London's most brutal sanitariums, where his condition worsened.

Driven by forces he alone could see within the very fabric of reality, Luthor plotted in secrecy, until he came up with an elaborate plan to escape his torment. Twelve years - to the day - after he had been put in the asylum, Luthor Delane escaped, leaving three dead and countless wounded in the attempt. He left the country, and wandered through the New World, until by chance (or so he thought), in Chicago he sighted the monster who had murdered his family, though the fiend had not aged a day. Taking no chances, Luthor acquired a shotgun, and blew his enemy away. But the man did not die; indeed, he seemed to be mostly unaffected. In terror, Luthor fled, but the man swiftly caught up with him, using unnatural speed. Luthor's Embrace was swift, brutal, and blurry.

It turned out that Clayton Arnold, Luthor's sire, had been tracking Delane since birth; he had been promised  to the man by Luthor's own father, as part of some deal-with-the-devil. Luthor was introduced to the Camarilla, which he served well for over a century, although during this time his paranoia and mood swings grew with the passing of each night - as did his hatred for Arnold, whom he had still not forgiven for the slaughter of his family so long ago. Finally, things came to a head in 1946 when Luthor learned that Arnold had been promised another mortal man's son, in a deal much like that which had been made with Delane Snr. This was more that Luthor's last shreds of humanity could take, and so he confronted his sire, and killed the Malkavian monster. But the Camarilla Elders of the city found this out, and Luthor was outlawed from Chicago on pain of Final Death. Luthor contined to wander once again, without purpose, his mental anguish still increasing nightly.

A great change came about in the closing stages of the twentieth century. Luthor arrived in Lampeter City, Wales, after tracking down a relative from his father's bloodline, and he joined the Camarilla vampires of that city. Here he served for a short while, but the vampires of the city were unkind to him, and treated him with little or no respect, even to the point of using him as a weapon to club enemies with. Hatred and anger burned in the Malkavian's already twisted mind, and before long, he abandoned the Camarilla and joined the ranks of the Sabbat, where he was welcomed much more heartily. In this sect, the evil, inhuman aspects of his personality were allowed to shine, and the last remaining traces of humanity within him faded away to nothing.
Luthor has yet to appear in his proper guise...
The Sabbat offered numerous opportunities for Luthor and his own twisted world, and it was not long before he appointed himself both Supreme Archregent of the Sabbat, and Justicar of the Malkavian antitribu - although these wild fantasies were frowned upon by his Sabbat peers, they were tolerated. Luthor began his own experiments, coming up with various creations such as his pack of ghouled woodlice, named The Pack of Onward Marching, which still serve him well today.

But the Sabbat, like anything in this world, is not perfect. Treachery and backstabbing thrive as much as loyalty and honour, and Luthor's paranoia grew still, to the point where he increased his knowlege of surveillance techniques to that of an expert; there is very little about spying on others and recording information that the Malkavian antitribu does not know. Though the Sabbat promotes unity, Luthor is still very much a solitary Cainite, preferring to hide in dark corners, observing his enemies and plotting against them from afar, even when serving as Priest and Ductus, both of which he has done on several occasions within the various Packs he has belonged to.

Bishop Elliott Tucci, of Lampeter City, found Luthor especially useful in garnering information on his enemies (and more importantly, his allies), and so, when Tucci was appointed to the Archbishopric of Shrewsbury, Luthor joined him and became Bishop there, a position he served in for some eight months. But, the nomadic nature within him soon beckoned again, and since he had heard rumours of a plot by the Pebbles of Maiden Newton to overthrow him as Archregent, he stepped down from the Bishopric, and journeyed to the South-West. Here Luthor became Ductus of his Pack, while all the time fighting his own private war against the dastardly Pebbles, aided by his two ghouls, Jumping Jiminy, Woodlouse Wrangler, Stationary Specialist and Personal Assistant and Driver to the Eternally Wonderful and Benovelent Supreme Archregent Luthor Delane, Justicar of the Malkavian antitribu, and Jeff-Jeffity-Jeff-Jeff Jefferson (of the Air Particles Division).

After several months spent away from the Temple of Maiden Newton, Luthor recently returned to host "Malkavian Night", an evening of sillyness and strangeness. The result, however, was Luthor temporarily becoming Archbishop of the city; however, for reasons unknown, he left shortly aferwards and has not returned;
Semper Fi is now Archbishop again.

Inside Information: Luthor Delane is the longest-running character of the Society. He began life in my first year at Lampeter University, and continues to be my favourite Player Character of all time.
