Headgear: A trojan uses the coronet for its head armor. You don't get one until you are level 22, but it is an important piece of your armor none-the-less. It is wise to get a good one early, and continue to make it better as you go. Earrings are really not important to you except in situations where you will know ahead of time that you will be facing a magic based attack, so don't waste your time and money until after level 120 or higher (if even then).
Neckpiece: A necklace will be a very important piece of armor as it adds to your physical defense. Aquiring a decent one early is wise.
Hand: There are two types of rings: attack rings, and dexterity rings (dex rings). You can purchase attack rings from the NPC in Twin City, but dex rings can only be found off mob drops. A new trojan has no choice but to wear an attack ring at level 1 and 10, but at level 13 it is wise to switch to a dex ring. In the long run the dex ring costs about half as much to plus as an attack ring, and it adds nearly as much damage with a lot more accuracy. Trojans starve for accuracy especially early, so this type of ring is the obvious choice.
Weapon(s): Your new trojan comes with a two-handed weapon, and the associated skill. Throw this away and go buy a level one blade. The blade is the best first weapon as it does the most damage (for a level one weapon), and has a fairly high accuracy. Trojans and warriors both have the largest selection of weapons to choose from because they can use anything except the tao's backsword, and the archer's bow. All other weapons are an option for you, both one-handed and two-handed. The biggest question posed to a new trojan is simple... what weapon am I going to use? There are two very obvious choices for this decision and they are the club and the blade. I strongly recommend that you use both of these weapons to get and keep their weapon skills up to date (more on this later). After level 40 you will be able to use two weapons, which in essence doubles your physical attack. At this time you can make a decision about what your off-hand weapon will be (more on this later as well). Suffice to say your choice of weapons will greatly influence the speed and effectivness of your leveling down the road.
Armor: A trojan's armor has the highest physical defense and lowest magical defense of all classes. Make this piece of equipment a priority because without it leveling will be difficult.
Boots: Boots are an important piece of equipment for every class because they add dodge. Dodge makes it so the mobs attacking you miss more often. This helps keep the durability up on the rest of your equipment, which in turn lets you stay in the labyrinth longer. Dodge is also your ONLY defense against archers. Do not make the mistake of thinking that archers can't hit you because you have great armor because armor doesn't mean anything to an archer. Test it for yourself if you don't believe me. I recommend a good pair of boots early.
Lastly, I would like to talk about blessed items. Do not discount these items because they can be highly useful. A few -5% blessed items will more than make up for a lack of quality especially at the lower levels, so look for them and put them on when you find them.
More discussion on what equipment to have will be in the Leveling portion of this page.
At level 40 trojans get to learn two more skills: Hercules(herc) and Spiritual Healing(SH). One hercules uses about 1/4 of your stamina, so you can do it about four times before you must let your stamina fill again. It is an area attack and will hit all mobs around you and able to attack you. This is a weak hunting skill, but can be fairly effective for pking after your trojan has reached a high level with some good weapons. The caveat to using Hercules is that both your main and off-hand weapon must be the same type (not necessarily the same level). Spiritual Healing on the other hand is highly useful for the rest of your career, and marks the end of needing to pack around health potions (for the most part). You will still want to keep a vanilla or two handy for an emergency, but other than that you should use SH for all your healing needs. It also uses stamina (all of it), but sitting recharges stamina quickly. SH takes a long time to level, but there is a trick (provided by the person who used to play SirKenshin) to getting it done. You will need any piece of equipment that adds hit points when you equip it (Love Forever Ring (LFR)), and a "few" hours of free time. The LFR adds 800hp to your total when you put it on, but it doesn't give you the health. So what you do is this: 1) equip the LFR (swapping with your dex ring), 2) use SH, 3) equip your dex ring (swapping with your LFR) 4) rest to restore stamina, 5) use SH, 6) repeat...
To keep in line with nearly useless skills the trojan has one too... Robot. Robot is an xp skill, and when you choose it you turn into a big, slow-as-hell, no-attack-having, massive-hit-points-owning, robot. Yeeeaaaaah! If you ever pk someone with robot, then they deserve it for being so stupid. There is really only one good use for Robot that I know of, and this is it... In order to be effective in the training grounds with Rage you have to stand in the middle between two stakes. If you try to stand in the middle and hit one of the stakes your trojan will simply walk to the stake you click on and start whacking on it. This makes Rage useless because if your not standing right in the middle Rage only hits one stake. Now you have two options to fix this problem. The first option is to learn a 2-handed weapon (usually a wand) because after your wand gets to level 30 or so you can stand in the middle between two stakes and start attacking, and your trojan won't try to walk closer. Then while you're attacking you can change out your weapons and viola! You are now attacking two stakes with Rage. The other option is much simpler and uses the Robot. Simply go to the training grounds and sit down between two stakes for your level. Then wait for your XP Skill to go off and select Robot. Once in Robot form you can begin attacking either stake next to you, and when your Robot wears off you will continue attacking from the same distance. Additionally, as a robot no one can one-hit kill you because you will have 50,000 health points. Which means that if someone tries to pk you, you will actually have time to safely scroll away to another city, or simple log out and come back later. Leveling robot is fairly fast, and its best to do so when you are sitting around chatting.
There really is no good way to hunt as a trojan. For you hunting and leveling are pretty much the same thing because you will be able to kill your white level mobs fairly easily, so "hunting" is nearly a waste of time. You are best off spending your time leveling and picking up everthing as you go. You won't find quite as many items leveling as you might hunting in your one-hit-kill mobs, but why waste time there when you can do pretty much the same thing leveling and still get good experience. This is the same for a warrior. As a trojan, you will want to focus on getting to level 110 as fast as possible so you can do the good quests (moonbox) as that is how you will make most of your money.
The art of the player kill. PKing is a valuable skill, and as a trojan you are well equipped for this job. This does not mean that when you get powerful you should run out and become a wanton/random pker, so please don't take it that way. This simply means if there is a job to be done... you are mostly likely the person to do it. In order to be good at this skill you have to practice because your weapon (skill) of choice should be Fast Blade, and it is difficult to get it right. Fast Blade(FB) is the weapon skill that goes with the blade, which is why it's vital to keep your blade skills up. It is a stamina skill, and it works very similar to hercules as you get about four tries before you must rest. The reason it is difficult to use is because it must be aimed, and it only hits targets in a very thin straight line. The trick to aiming FB it to have your shadows turned on (simple is best), and aim for your target's shadow which is usually at their feet. If they are jumping around you can follow their shadow and anticipate where they will land. This lets you pre-aim your FB so you can take them out as soon as their feet touch the ground. If you work at this and get good at it people will not only fear you, but they might even call you a speed hacker. Take that as a compliment. This technique is called tele-fastblade, but it works with Hercules and Scent Sword(SS) too. To touch on SS, it is basically the exact same thing as FB, but you use a sword instead of a blade. The main argument for using a blade over a sword is simply a blade does more damage even though a sword has a higher dexterity. The greater accuracy of a sword is diminished the more you plus your blade because plussing a melee weapon gives it more accuracy.
I do not recommend using a club to pk with because with a club comes Rage, and Rage hits everthing around you like Hercules. This means you can kill everyone around your target as well as your target. PKing with a club is the fastest way to turn yourself red-named, which is bad because if you die while red-named you can drop equipped items. The implied argument here is that you do not pk with Hercules either. These guidelines are geared toward situations were you are in PK Mode, if you stay in Capture Mode you need not ever fear going red or black-named.
The following information doesn't really qualify as a skill, but nevertheless you may need to be aware of it's usefulness. As stated in the opening paragraph in this guide trojans can have a hard time keeping a team together making it difficult to aquire virtue points. There is a fairly simple solution to this, but it requires a certain bit of diplomacy and humility on your part. What you need to do is make an arrangement with an archer your level or higher who is about ready to go hunting. A good place to find such an archer is in Ape Mountain where all the spawns are. When you find an archer ask politely if you may start a team and have them join it. Be sure to explain why you would like them to do this, and offer some reasonable payment for their time. Most archers have more than enough virtue points to accomodate you, but are perhaps a little jaded at having been pked by so many trojans before you. This is where an offer of payment in the form of money, mets, or even protection can make the deal for you. Just do yourself one favor, honor the deal you made even if it didn't work out quite the way you were planning. If you do this, then that same archer may be willing to help you in the future.
Your first 97 levels as a trojan are tedious at best. There are no easy ways to do it except to just go out to your white or possibly red-named mobs and kill them. The level of the mob you can work in is dependant on how good your armor is. Some people argue that you get more experience from your red-named mobs, but I don't believe this to be true all the time. It really depends on a few factors which include: weapon type/skill, weapon quality, level of plus, armor type, and armor quality. All these things decide where and how fast you can level. It doesn't do any good to run off to your red-named mobs because "they give great xp" when you have to sit and SH all the time because they do so much damage to you. You must find a balance between how much experience you are getting, and how much damage you are taking. When your gear gets good enough you may even find you can level even better in your black-named mobs. Just keep in mind that the higher the level of mob you go to the less damage you will do to them, and sometimes the bonus you get for them being higher level does not overcome what is lost by not doing much damage to them.
With that said it is important to talk about what weapon you should use to level with. As stated earlier the blade is your first and best weapon, and it will most likely be a cornerstone of your character from beginning to end. You will need it for FB to use in the training grounds, and to PK with later on. At level five you should start using a club, so you can level your club skills as well. It is wise to keep your levels up on both of these weapons at all times. Everytime you gain the next 10th (10, 20, 30,...) level you should make sure these two weapons level up first, and as soon as you can, learn FB and Rage. Rage is the single best leveling skill a trojan can use because it hits every mob around you, and it increases the damage you deal. When Rage goes off every mob around you becomes a multiplier for how much experience you will get, and this can make your experience go up very fast. Rage does not work quite as well as FB in the training grounds even after you can hit two scarecrows, so its best to use FB there.
After level 40 the trojan gets to use a second weapon, and you must ask yourself... What do I want my second weapon to be? There are many to choose from, and your choice will depend on your style of playing. An obvious choice is to use the club in your main (right) hand, and the blade in your off-hand (left). However, if you choose this path then you will not be able to use Hercules. Again it will depend on your playing style, and what your goals are. The club/blade combo is by far the most popular, and will do you well. The runner-up is club/club because clubs have both the highest and lowest attack, but you get to keep Hercules. However, if you decide to go with different weapons for each hand, which is perfectly acceptable, then it doesn't really matter what your off-hand weapon is (for the purposes of leveling) as long as you have a club in the other for rage. There are two considerations for your second weapon: range of damage, and associated skill. There are three other weapons that carry the exact same damage and dexterity as the club, and they are: hammer, axe, and scepter. They only differ in the skill that comes with them. The other one-handed weapons have decreasing maximum and increasing minimum attacks with an increase in dexterity. They are in decending order: blade, hook, sword/whip (same stats), dagger. The choice is all up to you, and you can make an argument for all of them.
A final note on which weapons to use... You may be wondering about two-handed weapons for your trojan. Stop wondering now. No single two-handed weapon can ever come close to the power of dual one-handed weapons, at least not in this game. So leave the two-handed weapons to the warriors and the reborn water taos.
After you reach level 70 it is important to gain as many virtue points as you can up until you reach level 97. At level 70 you should immediately start making teams and leveling newer characters so you can get virtue points. You will need these virtue points to get into the labyrinth once you reach level 97. A really good way to make sure you always have a team is to create a new water tao and marry it (just make sure your new water tao is the opposite gender and it has to be over level 20 to be married). This new water tao is more valuable than you may realize at this point. It will not only give you some much needed virtue points, but you can also use it in the training grounds for stigma.
At level 97 you can equip the next level of coronet and necklace. Those two pieces of equipment will make it possible for you to enter the first floor of the labyrinth fairly safely provided they are of decent quality. I would recommend that you have at least the following equipment at this point: elite +3 coronet, elite necklace, elite +3 dex ring, unique +3 club with two sockets (rainbows, or dragon gems are good), elite +3 armor, unique +3 off-hand weapon with two sockets (rainbows, or dragon gems are good), and elite boots. This list may sound expensive, but it's not as bad as you might think and there really should be no reason why you would not be able to aquire this list by the time you get to level 97. If your equipment is at least this good then the Slingers will hurt you but not too bad, and this will be a good opportunity to level SH a little more.
It is vital to have a club when you go to the lab because the mobs are large, and they often surround you making Rage very efficient. There is a best way to make this happen, and that is to hop into the middle of a large group, wait a second to let them find you, then start your attack. I also like to use the strategy of hitting the mob that has the most life left. If you keep switching to the highest health mob then it increases the number of times Rage is useful. Cyclone is also good to use down here because you really don't need Accuracy anymore. With +3 weapons and a good dex ring you will rarely miss, which makes Cyclone better for you here. Cyclone becomes most effective when you rapidly click on your target because every time you click you will hit again.
The labyrinth is the best place to level for a trojan as long as your virtue points hold out. They drop plenty of money, meteors, dragonballs, +1 items, quality items, and diamonds. You can trade diamonds in with Simon for prizes, and it is worth your time to pick them up. There are three different mobs in each level of the lab, and there are four levels of the lab. The main mobs are what you will spend the most time on, the second type will drop tokens to the next level, and the last type is a boss that always drops a quality item. The boss is very rare, and very hard to find so don't bother going down there just to find him and kill him. Once the main mobs turn white-named it will be close to the time when you need to go to the next level so you can get the best experience for your time there. Your time there is valuable because you can only stay as long as your equipment holds out, so that means you must pay careful attention to the durability of all your items. When your durability gets low, it's time to go. Luckily, if you log out while in the lab you will login to where you were. If you die, however, you will respawn back in Twin City.
The labyrinth can get you all the way to level 125 as long as you always have the virtue points to enter, and can get the required tokens to reach the floor you need to be at. A decent pair of earrings can be of use while looking for tokens on the second and third floor because token-giving mobs do a magic attack. This can be risky though because you will want your coronet for leveling, so you will need to have it in your inventory while you are hunting for tokens. However, there is a nifty trick you can do if you want to go through the hassle of it all. See "Making a WH char".
Final note on the labyrinth... Every level of the lab is a maze, every level gets about twice as big as the last, and you have no minimap to use for a guide. This can make finding your way around very difficult to say the least. There are a couple of maps that people have taken the time to create, and they are available in the forums. You can also do it the hard way and figure it out for yourself... the choice is yours.
Once you have reached level 125 you can still actively level in the Wine Zone(WZ). The WZ holds mobs who wield a magic attack, so this is also where a good set of earrings can come in handy. You can continue to level in WZ up to level 127, but after that FB in training ground is as good as anything else.
There is another way to improve your leveling in the training grounds, but it is expensive. If you have the money purchase a Night Devil book from someone in the Market as soon as you can reasonably afford one. This skill, which you can learn after level 70, will double your melee attacks in the training ground. Using this skill in the training grounds is just like using Robot as described earlier with one very big exception. When you come out of Night Devil form in the training grounds you will be hitting the stakes at double your normal speed, which will allow you to level faster with Rage than with FastBlade.
1) Ganoderma/Titan: After about level 70 a trojan can hunt these two behemoths without much worry, but dont bother until you're above level 110 because you will most likely get KSed until then. Ganoderma spawns in the Pheonix Castle forest every hour at 15 minutes after the hour, while Titan spawns one minute after Ganoderma in Ape Mountain near the SnakeMonsters. They both drop the same thing which is the occasional XP Potion. You can also usually find XP potions in the market for about 1.5M.
2) Skypass: After level 80 you can begin doing this quest, but you will need better than average equipment to be successful. These mobs can hit you hard, but it can also be a quiet place to make some money, find some mets, and maybe even get a level or two. The quest is simple enough with the hardest part just getting to the beginning. It is located way at the top of Dreamland where you must talk to Daniel to get in. The reward at the end is a choice between a guaranteed four meteors, or a chance to get lucky. If you choose to try your luck then you may recieve as many as 10 meteors, or as little as 10,000 silver. Do you feel lucky?
3) Moonbox: After you reach level 110 you can start "moonboxing", but waiting until level 115 is a little more efficient. The goal of moonbox is simple, just collect a token from each of the six tactics, then trade them in for a moonbox at the end. After you recieve your moonbox you have a choice to make, open it or sell it. I don't really see this as a choice, but many people decide to sell it for around 1.75M. See "Moonbox Tactics" for more information.
4) Treasure Labyrinth: This is the same labyrinth you have grown to love, but this time your goal is diamonds from either the third or fourth floor. If you collect 17 star diamonds from the third floor then you can trade them in for a random normal gem. If you collect 17 cloud diamonds from the fourth floor then you can trade them in for an Ancestor Box. An Ancestor Box is very similar to a Moonbox with respect to the prizes you can get. In both boxes you can get rare quality items, meteors, and socketed equipment, but the Ancestor Box can also give higher quality gems.
5) Dis City: You must be level 110 or higher to do this quest. It takes an hour and a half, but is worth the time because if nothing else you can make alot of money in a short period of time. You also have a chance at a Night Devil skill book in the third zone, which makes you level considerable faster in the training ground plus it look really cool.
As a trojan you won't make alot of money hunting, but you will survive. Quests are where it's at for you and you can find some very nice stuff once you start doing them on a regular basis.
