Upgrading the Original 35 amp alternator to a 70 amp Saab 90,99 or 900 alternator
IMPORTANT  -  I have not tried this yet so please do not take it as fact, just yet!  I will report back when I have finished dabbling!
Wiring

The stock 35amp Saab 96 alternator can quickly and easily be upgraded to a later 70amp model from a Saab 90, 99 or 900 from 1978 -1987.

The part numbers are:
H.C-CA207 or Lucas-LRA442

The body fits without adjustment but there are simple issues with the wiring.
A beefy new alternator has many benefits, it is better at charging the battery, feeding the coil and in turn helping ignition and also creates more power for peripherals such as an electric fan or spotlights
The 96 has a separate Voltage Regulator where the newer model has an internal Voltage Regulator.

When wiring in, the three piece connection, attached to terminals labeled D+, D- and DF on the alternaor, which leads to the separate voltage regualtor, which in turn leads to a two pin connector which in turn leads to a red cable which leads to the instrument panel.

The three pin connection, regulator and two pin lead can all be removed and the red cable extended to the D+ point on the new alternator.

The two terminals on both old and new labled B+ are a straight swap.

The alt can be earthed on any bolt on the body.

There is a spare +ve terminal which can be used to run an electric fan, for example.
