13 April '05 -- 5 Nisan -- don't know Islamic date yet
Early spring weather in Andermatt, though trees were in bud above Biasca.
I put on my Supplementary Website, http://www.geocities.com/sa73122
=SO050328.TXT , Procedural Memo on "Digitalizing" PVK Cassettes
and =PVINVWA.TXT , Inventory of the Walia Collection of Zenith Masters
and also =PVKINVS.ZIP , my 1998 inventory of whatever PVK materials I had at hand by the Golan shore of the Sea of Galillee JR050325.TXT
JR050326.TXT
JR050405.TXT

22 March '05 -- 11 Adar II -- 14 SAFAR -- Another mild day in Chur
More additions on topdoc =JR050307.TXT

18 March '05 -- 7 Adar B -- Spring does seem to be coming --
AN ADDITION ON THE TOPDOC OF =pvnto136 -- Input by retyping it a PVK article in Emergence , Issue number 8. It is very solid material, exoteric but almost condensed, like dried trailfood. Clearly written by PVK for Emergence, not an editted excerpt from a Seminar lecture. I reckon these Emergence PVK articles were an exoteric precursor of the esoteric KITs. They could be edited, but only by someone familiar with PVK's lectures if not writings, not by a professional editor. See what he does with the one word 'surreptitiously'. It is the sort of apercu that would be a bit of evidence for deeming a novelist great.
Corrected note; The Reference of 'EL ELYON' is Genesis 14:20, the blessing of Malchetzdek upon Avraham.
P.S.: Will someone set industry standards for format and distrubution of digitalized cassettes. Looks like Ogg Vorbis chopped down to 22 MHz might be the best bet for format.

15 March '05 -- 4 Adar B -- "Be Happy, it's dar" -- Melting even in Andermatt --

JR050307.TXT The usual hodge-podge.

And a transcription of PVK Tape TO136, "Initiation", ?early 70s? ?Abode Camp?:
PVKTO136.TXT Verbatim transcription.
PVETO136.TXT Flying Edit of Verbatim
and two filesfull of top-of-the-edit notes, not even proofread, nor edited:
PVNTO136.TXT and
PVOTO136.TXT

22 Feb 05 -- 13 Adar A -- Be hetzi happy, its Adar Aleph -- (dont know Islamic date yet) -- snowflurry after a sunny afternoon in Andramatt -- sun hits Campra for almost 2 hrs. nowadays -- old snow hard packed there --

In 10 minus-10--C windy days at Campra, having slipped in one of those 2-inch rim shower stalls, I grumpily input a lot of stuff that I didnt too much mind writing but sure dont want to read, and advise you, Gentle Reader, the same, except for the PVK stuff, which is for real. And anyhow, one who goes to the Modiin Post Office ought not necessarily read all the letters that come in that day. In short, CAVEAT TABBYCAT.

OK, so what we got us here in this batch is:

1 PVK transcription in verbatim, flying edit, and the notes to it:

This is a lecture, not a guided meditation. In it PVK offers a number of recommendtions, including the Bach St John Passion (as better even than the St. Mathew), the Stravinsky`s Sympony of Pslms. He also offers a number of insights about Bach.

As noted, the rest of my PVK transcriptions are in the Yahoo Briefcase with Username, AdobetoZenith . If you don`t know the password, ask someone who does.

PVK7XMUS.TXT ; thats the verbatim transcription.
PVE7XMUA.TXT , thats the Flying Edit of the verbatim transcript
PVN7XMUZ.TXT , thats my notes .

The verbatim is carefully transcribed -- anyone who finds more than 3 significant errors in any verbatim transcription Ive done, Ill buy you a hot-fudge Sunday if these heathen learn to make it .
The Flying Edits are responsibly though hastily done -- I dont look back when I edit, but I dont take out nor put in any significant remarks.
The notes are all slash-and-burn, I don`t re-read them. Some include some good material, including recollections of related PVK remarks, and cross-refernces to similar concepts in orthodox Judaism. But many others are not much more than self-indulgence. Caveat etc.

a 6-file set of top-of-the-head Autobiography Number 2 -- thats au*.txt --
AU050218.TXT
AU050219.TXT
AU05021G.TXT
AU05021J.TXT
AU05022A.TXT
AU05022B.TXT
And the two Siddur docs, with a dash of irrelevant autobiog notes tossed in,mostly in the first SIDUR doc, because I was too lazy to re-open one of the above doc:

SIDURAU1.TXT
sidurau2.txt

These are scarcely intended for anyone practicing orthodox Judaism; if you`'re walking up an an ok trail, you don't needed to bushwack over a few cliffs to try sombebody's elses trail, and nobody's asking you excepted the bored-again Christians, they should only be baptized in a bubble-bath, as_it_is_said, "With ne tochas you can`t dance at two weddings."
By maybe some of my other buddies might dig out something useful here, as_it_said, "You know your assimilated when less than half your ashram is Jewish."

I havent re-read thisstuff, even for typos, and sure dont want to. ( I mean the autobiog stuff. ) Its not blatantly offensive by todays norms, but its definitely not for those drawn to this Website, if anyone is, by the R. Shlomo material -- thats what the Caveat Tabbycat flag is for -- nor for those drawn to the SO material. I suppose I just wanted it on the record in case the glaciers melt tomorrow.

To iterate myself again: That 2-file set of notes on the siddur, listed above, has a few completely irrelevant autobiographic notes tossed in, some of which should have been shrink-wrapped -- those are =SIDURAU1.TXT and =sidurau.txt -- the latter is just about junk-free These 2 docs are very poorly written, though the ideas, if you can dig them out from the jive, were reasonably well-considered.

one more journal doc:
JR050212.TXT And then two clumps of SO-related photos, which should have been put on /73122 , but I was out of space there:
photos of Ags angels, which are =AG*.JPG
and photos of artwork in Karimas house in Jenisberg, some by here and the rest collected by her -- these are =KG*.JPG
All these photos are very poor, taken with my throwaway camera and downloaded as thumbnail quality, only a few K -- right, K -- apiece.
So ok, now I have to go back and put in the LINKs, tho this shop is about to close for the day.

So ok, the Ag photos are: AG00A.JPG>BR> AG01A.JPG

AG11A.JPG
AG12A.JPG
AG13A.JPG
AG22A.JPG
AG23A.JPG
AG24A.JPG
AGXOA.JPG
AGWOT.JPG

So ok, now to the Karima Photos: Again, her home and works deserve much much better documentation; I merely shot all shots in my Kodak flash throwaway camera, had it developed on CD by Minit Photo in Chur they should only buy a barrel of herring and take it out to sell to the pilgrims walking to Mecca, and then of those photos I took the LO_RES "thumnail" set, each only a few bytes, rather than the real set, each over 1 Mb.

OK, I think that wraps it up for the 23 Feb or 24 Feb or whatever today is, Batch. Maybe now I can take the gondola up and look at the mountains. And walk down to the station and buy a Herald Trib, and maybe even find a hot-dog for sale. They call this a civilized country, but they don't even have buckwheat pancakes.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

10 Feb '05 -- 1 Adar I (Rosh Hodesh 2) -- Be moderately happy, its Adar I --
JR050209.TXT The lastest catch-call Journal bunch of stuff -- poems, letters to the editor (mostly unsent), halachic remarks, and a dash of philosophy (theory of meaning notes) -- all unedited --

IHTSHLAI.TXT A rather Zionist response to a rather anti_Zionist article in the Int. Herald Tribune, 4 Feb '05

25 Jan '05 -- Tu b'Shvat
JRNL050F.TXT This is the continuation of my catch-all Journal Doc, the preceeding portion of which, to which I will add no more, is =JRNL0501.TXT

10 Jan '05 -- 29 Tevet -- www.geocities.com/sa73122 has now been extended as

www.geocities.com/sa73122c , which is being set up to hold my very amateur photos of artwork by AG (so far, earth angels and aether angels), and of artwork by Karima Somerau (mostly mandalas) and collected by her (tapestries, Buddhist depictions, et al.) in her home in Jenisberg, Graubunden, the which is an extraordinary work of art in its entirety, and in an astounding location, despite the next-door flourescent-lit cow-barn.

10 Jan '05 -- Some further additions to =JOURNL45.TXT

A NOTE ON NEW MATERIAL:
I am presently dumping new poems, jpih political remarks, and miscellaneous quips in;
JOURNL45.TXT

NEW: 6 JAN '05 -- Epiphany -- 25 Tevet -- 25 Dhu al Qr'dah
Further additions to =JOURNL45.TXT
Includes selected philosophic notes* on the Moetza move, reportedly assisted byx the Vaad, to seize personal property against unpaid local (Arnona) property tax
*(as distinct from incitement to assassination of same) NEW LINK: Muslim Association of Britain:
www.mabonline.net

This Website is just about full, for which I blame Yitzak's Dragon, =fred27g.jpg I've tried to move him, but he puffs up into a 6 Mb Bitmap. So I'll be moving over to www.geocities.com/sa73122b to add new files. At that point I'll go from a Railroad Train to a USA Western Ghost Town. "It's all in the mind you know." (Beattles, Yellow Submarine, Ringo persona.

'CAVEAT TABBYCAT'='Files marked 'Caveat Tabbycat' may contain some material which would ruffle the feathers of a blackbird, i.e., affront ostensibly religious sensibilities.' That said, I think there's nothing blatantly outrageous on this Website. Though I am trying to survey and push back some of the fences in Jewish religious orthodoxy. And there are a few risquee poems and methanated ruminations here and there.

NEW:

30 Dec '04 -- 18 Tevet, etc. --
po041228.txt More draft poems. =po041230 Appended. The latter includes a statement on the ethics of confiscation of personal property of a debtor.
27 Dec '04 -- 16 Tevet -- 16(?) Dhu al -Qr'dah --
I presently have Internet Access only when I pass a public terminal -- to get to the nearest one to Campra, walk down the roads 2 hrs. and 500 meters to Olivone, take the bus down to the river and go up the next valley, go over or under Gotthard mountain, go up the waterfall, walk into town and turn right.
So here are 5 very rough drafts:
BUBBLES.TXT A trivial review of a trivial book.
GINO3.TXT CAVEAT TABBYCAT, TAKE IT TO THE COAL CAR. JPIH0413.TXT "If we survive the next four years, it will be as disempowered citizens of a nation (the USA) that has been raped" and other cheerful quips.
PO0416.TXT *** THE RESULTS OF STEVE'S PLASTIC BOTTLES CONTEST *** and other no less poems.
PURKIS6.TXT PurRav Kislev-plus Edition

1 Dec '04 -- PART II -- 19 Kislev -- 19 Shawaal --
A winter night, dark and the day ended before 6 o'clock. Once, hitch-hiking through Indiana toward Chicago during Christmas break, I saw blue evening light on the snowfields, and sensed how cold and lonely a winter evening can be.

PLASTIC1.TXT This page, which summarizes and divides the number of Plastic Bags that I have acquired in Switzerland, may perhaps not be of all that much interest to most of those who peruse this Website. Or then again, it may be of some interest to approximately 50 percent of them, more or less, as_it_is_said, I can count the number of my Readers on my ears. This page is best Viewed, if at all, under HTML, if I ever find my HTML Crayons.

1 Dec 04 -- 18 Kislev -- 18 Shawwal -- Campra -- Overcast afternoon, heavy snowfall settling in.

I've finished Posting my Recovered Files. Again, thanks to the Vanzetti's, who own and run the Centro Ski Nordico in Campra, for preserving and safeguarding them. Campra is very beautiful in winter, accomodations are available at moderate rates. Travelers from Israel are advised to fill their saddlebags with Hummous, and not to tie their horse at the servants entrance to the Restorante.

Here are a few more old poems, I think:
PO0698.TXT
PO0798.TXT
and PON97698.TXT, which is maybe notes to poems.

"And now for something different": Here are some of my media-bias files. Briefly, in 1988 I worked for David Bedein of the Israel Resource Center, trying to analyse anti-Israel media bias. I continued doing some of that on my own in following years. Bedein had gallantly focussed on ABC-TV, who sued him for infringement of copyright because he rebroadcast their past week's news programs as he lectured on bias. I wrote on articles in TIME, Newsweek, et al. The issues are dated, and my remarks were freewheeling, but I think there's material here for an article expanding the standard model of theory of meaning. Like, to 'designation' and 'connotation', add and analyze 'insinuation'.
So anyhow, what we go us here now is:
MB1094.ZIP
MB9394.ZIP
MB96A.ZIP

30 Nov '04 Part 2 -- Sun coming out, after snow -- 17 Kislev -- 17 Shawwal --
PO0798.TXT More recovered poems
auto5a.zip Autobiography, written in a rainy winter ca. 1985, Ein Hemed Campground, typed up polished and packaged winter 1990-91, Hamburg. I am greatful to the Vanzetti's for having preserved the disc on which I found this. Written, like everything else I do, in EinsteinWriter, under DOS. Caveat Tabbycat, tho it's reasonably chaste and polite as such things go nowadays.

30 Nov '04 -- 17 Kislev -- 17 Shawwal -- Soft dark night, soft snow --
Here are main docs on the Jewish Community of Rhodos (recovered old files):
RH95A.TXT 18 Jun '95 . My main article on the Jewish Community of Rdos

I have added several photos to my Supplemental Website. One set of 3 is of the mural in front of the Old Church in Biasca. And there are 3 photos of the mural of St. Christopher on the Church in Dongio (Val Blenio, Ticino Canton, Switzerland). And one humorous graphic for recycling plastic bottles.
Nico Vanzetti SCAN'd these and Save'd them in *.tif and *.jpg format, finding the optimal settings.

21 Nov '04 (Part II) -- 8 Kislev -- 8 Shawwal --
Bright sun on the road across the valley --
poemspot.zip Collected Selected Poems, to 1999
I reckon my poems are my best creative work. Most of these files exist elsewhere on this page, but the more recent files I'd feared lost. I've been hoping to recover this Folder for a year and a half, and am most greatful to the Vanzetti's for having preserved it.

amdur96d.zip My 1996 re-input of the text only of the LNAB (Leonard and Nancy Amdur Briskin) Amdur Geneology. Not updated since then. Access on request. Again, I am greatful to the Vanzetti's for having saved this file, and many others.

21 Nov '04 -- 8 Kislev -- 8 Shawwal --

Poor Purim Rav -- "Why I am a Reformie" -- Inter alia, and there's lot of blind alleys there, includes a sketch of Steve's Transcendental Ontologic Proof, with a NEW! Corallary proving the necessity of Meshiach, or some such. Everything you always wanted to know about Kant's Critique of Poor Reason, but were too bored to ask. These notes are minimally less unintelligle if reconstituted under EinsteinWriter, which is a much better word-processing program that MicroSoft WORD. Caveat Hep-Cat.

In an editorial to Good News #2, the monthly newsletter of Moshav Meor Modi'im (Mevo Modi'in), [email protected] writes [conceptual 'scare_quotes' mine]:

"the message for the month is deep yearning and the will to fix [tikkun] what we can."

He adds, paraphrasing a teaching by R. Shlomo Carlebach:

We are all yearning for 'Big Meshiach' [Messiah'], but we need to operate in this world as a little Mashiach. How can we expect `Mashiach' to come if we are not willing to be like 'him'. How much can we yearn, if we're not confronted with our limitations? We come to the edges of what we can do only through action."

-----------------------------------------------

Here's a haiku from R.H. Blythe's Collection (Hokuseido Press, Tokyo, 1952/1970):

So bitter cold it was
I left the bamboo broom
Under the pine tree.

Tsumetosa ni

"Today make I mention of my sins" or at least Art Waskow's:
It's tempting to say that winter is the dead time in galutz,
and that summer is the dead time in the land of Israeli-occupied Isreal.
But "it ain't necessarily so":
In winter in New England I advise cross-country ski-ing at Breton Woods;
in New Mexico I advise visiting any of the pueblos.
Summer in Israel is a very alive time, albeit optimal for lizards.
Persimmons ripening now, figs trees becoming fragrant; grapes ripening.
Yakov Rottenberg says: The birds pick at the grapes and knock them to the ground. Then the birds come back a day later and eat the ripened grapes.

This is a sketch for a new interface ("Homepage") to my Website.

NOTES TO WHOEVER DESIGNS THIS WEBSITE:
I am using a railroad-train theme. Each Section of the Website is a different railroad car. Ideally, the Website Visitor would seem to walk down the central aisle of the train, and the various files might appear as books along the side.

Also, there might be a narrow frame running vertically down the right side of the screen; it might be fixed to the main Website, rather than scrolling independently; but it would also hold LINK's. This would correspond the scenery one sees as the train travels on.

Background pictures if any should be high-quality; Klee's Magic Squares, a Rothko -- non-representational designs, but high quality. Similarly, any music cues shouid be very high quality -- Landowska, Richter, Budapest String Quartet (!) -- I've got that on CD, but it might take me some time to put them onto Computer.

Colours should be subtle, not crude.

Content is fixed; I want to include all the files and links that I now have; and will want to add more. I would like this Website to be designed so that it would not find it too confusing to add things to it.

Find another Website Host, and set it up for me there; you chose a password. You can do that on a Yahoo free Website (15 Mb limit) or any better Free site you find. Sapphire maybe.

That's all I think of for now.

Oh: Where's it at without a plot. A dash of Murder on the Orient Express will to, taken from the Children's game of Clue. Looks like Maxwell (the Beattles' Young Maxwell, that is, or was) did it in the Parlour Car with his Hammer; and poor Colonel Mustard was just about to make a respectable name for herself, after that disgraceful -- but I'm frum now, and we don't speak loshon hora any more-a.

Best wishes,
Steve

CAVEAT TAKE 2:

This Website is primarily and predominantly a warehouse of ( 'RSC'='R.Shlomo Carlebach') teachings.

Those are within the context of traditional, 'orthodox' (or 'ultra-orthodox', if you prefer that term) Judaism.

I've tried to present them in a way that will be acceptable to strictly observant readers (and have not yet received complaints in that regard).

PART I of this Website is entirely RSC material.

However:
This Website is presently my only Website, so I've added subsequent PART's to it, that hold files of entirely different sorts.
(Albeit, nothing unduly outrageous, I think.)
I am not orthodox; and there are some files in subsequent PART's of this Website, starting with PART II (Poems) that reflect that.

So I must offer advance apologies (but maybe not more excuses) to anyone whose sensiblilities are affronted by anything here.

OK; Yalla:

---------------------------------------------------------------

CAVEAT TABBYCAT ALLEYCAT RULES:

This site is hosted by Yahoo.com at the cost of hitch-hiking their ads, which are as inobtrusive as possible, and seem unobjectionalbe, but are probably safest ignored.

Most of my RSC files are bundled into clickable *.zip files, which download, though you or your wizard then have to unpack 'em.

Briefly: You can unpack my *.zip files under Windows using your WINZIP.EXE, or under MS-DOS using PKUNZIP.EXE (ver. 2/93); included in =tools.zip.
I write under MS-DOS in EinsteinWriter (W.EXE 8.2), which files convert to ASCII via EinsteinWriter's T.EXE (the 20,794K version, not the 20,799K version); or if you prefer via EinsteinWriter's ETRANS.EXE ; those 3 EXE files plus =PKUNZIP.EXE are bundled in tools.zip

Most of the files on this Website are text-only files. The unzip'd files are *.txt, i.e., ASCII .

Briefly: I use EinsteinWriter's LAYOUT Feature as successively staggered block-indents, such that Layout 1 (.l1) is LM=10, Layout 2 is LM=15, Layout 3 (.l3) is LM=20, etc. That feature is sometimes essential to keep my sub- and sub-sub-, and sub-sub-sub, and then sub-sub points minimally comprehensible.
Unfortunately, it strips out under a T.EXE convert to ASCII. So very recently I've tried to flag those block-idents with an extraneous #l1, #l2, #l3, etc.; so that from an ASCII convert they can be reconstructed under W.EXE . But note that each Layout command (.l1, .l2, .l3, etc.) must be immediately followed by a CR to take effect. And you have to reset the Layouts in the Layout Menu of W.EXE (F2 in W.EXE 8.2).
Ain't that hard though.

Incidentally, EinsteinWriter's horizontally split-screen 'Compose' mode is ideal for juxtaposing an edit with the verbatim original. And all that and more for 90K. Much better wp program (for writers, if not desktop publishers) than MicroSoft WORD for Windows.

I so far find http://www.yahoo.com a reliable if tediously gaudy Free E-mail platform (with very good SPAM-diversion), but beware downloading anything free from a Yahoo site.
In particular even attempting to download those Yahoo free screen savers might unlock a SPAM sluice-gate. And if a Daemon asks for your E-mail address ---- be cool ...

Alternatively: http://www.fastmail.fm , (recommended by Chaim Gingy Cohen), seems a clean honest minimalist E-mail platform )

That completes the Formalities; Thank you for you patience.

WEBSITE PART I: R. SHLOMO CARLEBACH TRANSCRIPTS (et al.)

(1) A lot of transcriptions of taped teachings by R. Shlomo Carlebach.
(N.B.: This Website has no official connection with the R. Shlomo Carlebach Foundation.)

Most of the transcriptions on this-here Website are by 'sa'='Steve_Amdur'.
Most of those are complete transcriptions. (That applies to transcriptions made ca. 1993--date; but not to transcriptions made 1985--1993, (most of which are excerpts, mostly excerpted from typescript full transcriptions).
When I elide (omit some text) from a fuller transript, I so indicate with 3_dots , thus ...
My transcriptions are vitually uneditted. That is, I very rarely edit R. Shlomo's words. (R. Joshua Witt taught me that; he said, cut out only each third 'mamash'.)
However, I do frequently interject my own remarks.
However, I do (since ca. 1998) set off my interjected remarks in {squiggly_braces}.

YOU ARE NOW TRAVELLING IN THE 2ND-CLASS CARRIAGE OF THE JERUSALEM- --SHA'AR HAGAII-- BET SHEMESH LINE; FINAAL DESTINATION KFAR HABAD; Continuing to Tel Aviv and Classical Zionism.

R. Zalman told of the Chabad engineer taking a passenger train from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv in 1948. The self-styled Arabs from or at the adjacent villages harassed it, the brakes went, and the hand-brake handle became glowing hot. The engineer held on, the train stayed on track, the passengers lived on. They asked him, how could you do it. He said, our Rebbe always taught us, that mind can overcome the lower desires.

GENERAL EDITORIAL NOTES FOR RSC MATERIAL:

I make no claims upon any RSC material that I've worked on, but acknowlege that others may assert and/or have asserted such claims. Questions regarding commerical publication should be directed to the R. Shlomo Carlebach Foundation. (However, this has been rather a problematic matter.)

However, I do ask that, in the interest of Archiving, anyone using any transcriptions that I've worked on, and even posted, note the original filename/filedate, and indicate briefly what sort of changes you've made.

Such changes might include: Editting, adding sources, adding (initialed) notes, excerpting, deleting my {squiggly-braces shtuyot }, correcting my garbled Hebrew, adding Hebrew from tape or context, correcting my transcription against tape, etc.)

CAVEAT: My level of learning in Jewish religious studies has yet to reach the level of that of eg any member of the Witt Family over the age of 6. BZ has renarked that my transcritions are full of errors. I those are pointed out to me, I will note them in Errata docs. To keep Archiving clear, I will not go back into my original docs and correct errors, unless I then rename that doc.

============================================================== ==============

RSC Files posted here currently include:

redmesa1.txt

(=wed1094.zip is the only file omitted (and that inadvertantly) from my CD-ROM of my collection of RSC materials, June '04, Posted to the Mevo Modi'in Free Peoples' Public Library and sent to the Carlebach Shul (NYC).)
) This is a recurrently-mooted publication, questions regarding which should at least initially be like directed to the RSC Foundation.
Meanwhile, it might serve as an informal handbook for an RSC-style Wedding.
"A word to the wise is sufficient"; all others please wear hard_hats in the Library Stacks.

yakar.zip
This is a package of transcriptions of talks given by RSC at Yakar, 10 Rehov Ha_Lamed-Hey, Old Katamon, Jerusalem, 1993. Questions regarding publication should be directed to Yakar, and to the R. Shlomo Carlebach Foundation.
A more complete collection of Videotapes of RSC's talks at Yakar was made by Natanel Shur, a native-French member of the RSC chevre presently living in Kiryat Moshe, Jerusalem.

nonmishk.zip

Transcriptions, by Witts, EW, and sa, from Witt collection.
Does not include transcriptions (all by the Witts) of the "Mishkanot" RSC teachings, which were given at the Witts home in/on Mishkanot. These talks, given to core chevre, are on an Advanced level. I'm seen no comparable RSC talks. They are posted to my Yahoo Briefcase, http://www.geocities.com/sa73122a , but in a more restricted-Access Folder.

shmusic6.zip
Alphabetic transcription of tunes, with transliteration of lyrics using my ASCII-based transliteration system (case-sensitive with non-significant vocalization, such that the Hebrew, without nekudot, can be unequivocally reconstructed from the transliteration;

useful for writing post-dated cheques, etc.). Easier to add to a backpack than the combined Velvel Pasternak and Ben-Zion Solomon RSC Songbooks, of which it's an annotated distillation.

shmemos.zip
Might include a few good memos on Archiving; plus assorted shtuyot.
_____________ ['shtuyot'="a stew of ridiculousnesses"]

kids1094.zip

Brief excerpts, maybe editted, compiled ca. 1986. Might serve as tolerable text for a coffee-table book. Anyone prepared to proceed on same should as a courtesy check with Rbtzn. Rachel- Bryna Frumin , and with the Carlebach Foundation.

journals.zip

A few retypes from editted excerpt transcriptions published in HBG="Holy Beggars' Gazette" and CNS="Connections".
"And Esther Wrote" was an exceptionally strong statement, one might say 'pro-feminist'.
Copyright to HBG material was subsequently bought by some Upstate dude whom I presume re-editted some -- but HH says no, he published it verbatim -- and re-published it chastely through Jason Arononson, Inc.
( Jason Aronson, Inc. is maybe now the pre-eminent Jewish_religious publishing house; Pomerantz Booksellers in Jerusalem are their Israel outlet).
So these docs might serve as a useful archival cross-check to editorial excess, if any.
But EG says: Bar-Ilan University library, in B'nei B'rak, has a complete collection of HBG's.
That's what internet publication is good for; human beings don't really like reading those blinking little pixels; books still hold their own re-cycled turf.

revised.zip

Minor revisions of a few previously-posted docs.

----------------------------------------------------

SECTION 3:
INDIVIDUAL TRANSCRIPTS, IN *.txt, PREVIOUSLY POSTED (2/98--6/99) TO RSC LIST AND TO RSC WEBSITE

You can also get *.txt files from a workaround. Click thataway to download rsctxt03.zip, which is a the patience and consideration of the chevre of Moshav Meor Modi'in) 7/03--12/03 . There's a bit of duplication, but I also tossed in W.EXE, T.EXE, ETRANS.EXE, and PKUNZIP.EXE (ver. 2/93). Just to get back at whatever. Davka with peppercorns, I suppose.

SECTION 4:
DOWNLOADS from the R. Shlomo Carlebach Website , http://www.rebshlomo.org
The downloads from the RSC Website seem in general to be edited short excerpts from tapes.

webspr98.zip
My download of RSC "tora's" that were on the rebshlomo.org Website in Spring 1998.

scwby402.zip
My download of RSC "tora's" that were on the rebshlomol.org Website 2 Jan '04
Some of those may duplicate files in the Spring 1998 download.
Also, there may be some accidental duplication of filenames for different files.

scwb0404.ZIP
The same, as of about 8 April '04.
I think it's both less and other than the preceeding. Includes a copy of the Source file, with some but not many temporarily UnLINK'd RSC excerpts.
Everything seems to excerpts form Connections (CNS) and from the Kehillat Jacob newsletter.

yccdrom.zip
An humungous compendium of postings, I guess.
Unpackaged files included on a CD-ROM sent me 11/'03 by YC. I haven't yet looked at these files. I think that they're downloads from both the RSC Website and the RSC LIST. Maybe some are my files. There's maybe much duplication.

That's a Ph.d joke, just to keep the Reader, if any, awake.

"You have a great country here -- I hope you appreciate it."
_____Madonna, Producer/Star of 'The Girly Show', Tel Aviv, 1999

A few files stuffed into a Media-Bias Folder. mostly unpublished and largely unsent Letters-to-the-Editor, mostly to the Editor of the Jerusalem Post. Some are tolerably well-written, at least relative to some of the poems. Some files may deal with analysis/response to instances of argue-ably anti-Israel media-bias.
Edges into philosophy, and sometimes philosophy of law.

One thinks of four great editorial cartoonists: Bill Mauldin, Herbert Block ("Herblock"), "Dry Bones" (Jerusalem Post et al), and Gary Trudeau ("Doonesbury").]

Now then: The reason I got up this morning, and missed watching the Superbowl on my Yahoo Portal, was to apologize for a tendentously truncated Letter-to-the-Editor published over my name in the IHT=Int. WEBSITE PART IV: A NOTE ON FORMAT:

Regarding those meddlesome Microsoft Dinosaurs as a passing fad,
I continue, as I've done since 1986 or so, to write under MS-DOS using EinsteinWriter (ver. 8.2) (W.EXE), which files convert to ASCII using EinsteinWriter's T.EXE (use the 20,794K version, not the 20,799K version (which unusable version is maybe included in some of my old *.ZIP's; Caveat hep-cat.).

W.EXE and T.EXE, and PKKUNZIP.EXE (ver. 2/93) are available from my now-unused Briefcase; Yahoo Geocities Plebian Webpages don't accept upload of *.EXE files.

However, I think I've smuggled them in in a zip package:

tools.zip:
W.EXE (ver 8.2),
T.EXE (20,794K version),
PKUNZIP.EXE (2/93 version),
ETRANS.EXE
(Use with the /e /nj options. An alternative to T.EXE, but I think not as good.

W.EXE and T.EXE should also be available from EinsteinWriter, Ltd., which had a rather inactive office on Hillel St. in Jerusalem 5 years ago, though not now.
EinsteinWriter once was and may yet be again the industry-standard for refined typists. Hereabouts, anyhow. Somebody should buy it, improve it, and re-market it.
I once wrote, as a hotmail signature file: "Microsoft does everything -- with colossal ineptitude; a nested set of intentionally self-obsoleting black-boxes for blockheads." I continue to find Windows less efficient than DOS; except for folks illiterate in English. There are few anticipatable user needs which Microsoft does not detour around; and few possible questions which it fails to answer so circumlocutiously that you'd better pack a bag lunch before clicking Help.

For a writer, though not a desk-top publisher, EinsteinWriter is the best-designed PC word-processing program I've seen; tho not up to the standalone's of the late '70's: DEC 78, WANG, Xerox, even IBM-6. Ah, nostalgia.

Once converted to Text, you can Open them under Windows into MicroSoft WORD. Most of my RSC files are packaged into *.zip files; those unpackage using (under MS-DOS) PKUNZIP.EXE (ver. 2/93, or any later version). They can then be read under , and are best read under, MS-DOS using W.EXE (any version, legal or liberated (1DC)). They can also be unzip'd under Windows using WINZIP (any version, as far as I know). Once unzip'ed, almost all will be in EinsteinWriter format. I don't yet know what you do then. Maybe read them on a meter-long screen.

I found this with a Yahoo Search -- (Google uses a complicated algorithim that returns more pecks of shtuyout than a man on the clam-flats with a vacuum cleaner.) --
Looks promising. Includes religious calendars.

http://www.Begedivri.com Website for Reuven Prager, Tel: +972---2--6258-943 ; [email protected] . Reuven Prager exemplifies in practice, as R. Zalman does in spirit and thought, the true meaning of a 'Reconstructionist' movement (quite apart from whatever Mordechai Kaplan wrote): ChaDeSh YaMeINU K-QeDeM . He was among the first to restore techelet to tzitzit (acceptable though not used by all branches of orthodox Judaism); he then re-created the 'bridal chair', continues to produce neo-biblical garments of great beauty; and has re-instituted the annual half-shekel contribution in a scholarly and halachically responsible manner.

http://www.davidzeller.org R. David Zeller, who lives in the religious yuppie suburban community of Efrat, serves as Director of Yakar (a co-educational orthodox learning center in Old Katamon, Jerusalem), and works also as a traveling lecturer and trans-personal therapist. Judy Avrahami is in effect Administrative and Public Relations Dirctor of the Terror Victims Support Center, in Jerusalem.

This Website Started 4 Jan 2004 -- 11 Tevet -- Mevo Modi'in -- a bright moon, with light gathering clouds, woodsmoke in the air, and some excellent natural apple juice from Pomeranz

ENHANCED:

8 Jan '04 -- 14 Tevet -- a long, steady, light rain day

10 Jan '04 -- 17 Tevet -- a clear night, moon waning

13 Jan '04 -- 19 Tevet -- a warm night with rainclouds
Skies clearing, Moshav waking --

29 Jan '04 -- 6 Shvat -- a bright, sunny day; but one of bitter news.
2 Feb '04 -- 10 Shvat -- 06:00 -- Superbowl Sunday in the USA; just one more day hereabouts. Pale green and pale blue behind dark grey rainclouds. Roosters calling.

3 Feb '04 -- 11--12 Shvat -- A warm grey day, just a dusting of rain, red poppies amongst the foot-high new greens.

5 Feb '04 -- 13 Shvat -- More light rain. I think the *.txt problem was a Yahoo case-sensitive SnAfu (WWII slang: "Situation Normal; etc.") -- Upload file to Website added an Initial Cap to Filename; but File Manager is case-sensitive, so it didn't recognize its own minimal rename.

9 Feb '04 -- 17 Shvat -- The sun felt good today. These houses were built in the 70's of iron-re-inforced concrete, to withstand the occasional potshot, and do trap the cold and damp. But wood fires in an iron stove are lovely. /

> A clear cold night. 24 Feb '04 -- 2 Adar --- A clear cold night.
The birds sang very full this morning, at daybreak. It's been an exceptionally warm day.

================================================================= Well, we must all carry on, together, as best we can.
We ain't got there yet, but it's been a good trip. In good company, with lovely scenery.

"Passing through
Passing through
Sometimes happy, sometimes blue
Glad that I ran into you.
Tell the people that you saw me passing through."
