Who am I? Well, here's my story... My name is Stephanie Merchak. I was born in 1980, in Lebanon. My father is Lebanese and my mother is Belgian. I have both nationalities. Beside my school studies, I started learning piano when I was eleven. Two years later, I entered High National Conservatoire of Music in Beirut where I went on with piano studies. I also took solfege, harmony, counterpoint and analysis courses. In 1998, I entered the Faculty of Pedagogy at the Lebanese University. In 2002, I got a Musical Education Degree. Now, I'm preparing for a Ph.D in musicology at U.S.E.K. (Université Saint-Esprit de Kaslik). That's not all! I gave private piano lessons between 2000 and 2001. I worked in a record production company (Byblos Records s.a.r.l.) for one year (2001-2002). I have been a bass player in an Arabic music band between 1999 and 2001. I also sang as alto in U.S.E.K. choir between 2002 and 2004. I gave some concerts with both band and choir. You may ask me what are my hobbies... I can answer that I love painting and drawing, writing poetry and reading. I also spend some time on the Internet looking for interesting things to read. But music stays my principal interest. I spend countless hours listening to all kinds of music: from what is commonly called classical music (mediaeval, Renaissance, Baroque, romantic, and 20th-21st centuries music), to classical Arabic music, world music, jazz, rock and roll, rock, metal and electronic music (techno, trance, rave...)...
