Our background and interests
We became interested in Siberian Huskies in 1991. Our first dog's name was Nanook. He was a very energetic puppy and since he was our first we had a lot to learn. We started taking Nanook to obedience classes so we both could learn what was needed for him to become the perfect pet. He did well in class so we entered him in a match in which he went high In Match. So we entered our first AKC trial thinking we had the exercises down pat. I forgot about the Siberian humor though and Nanook broke his sits and downs just seconds before the exercises ended. After a lot more training and proofing we entered our first trial. He finished his CD with four legs and two third places at all breed trials just a short time afterward.
In 1994 we started showing in conformation it wasn't until 1996 when a little thief named "Bandit" came into our life that we did a lot of winning. He came from Judy Pilkay at Juroblyn Siberians. Judy and I co-own Bandit and Kristi. I have learned a lot since I first met her in 1995 and continue to learn more each day. Bandit is our first Best In Show winning dog.
We have made lots of friends along the way several of which are very special people to me Cindy Yocum-Dobai, Heather Piniak, Judy Pilkay, Sue Liles, Karen Steinke, Brenda and Gene Yarling, Erin Voges, and Ken Bauer. I am very grateful to all of them for helping us learn more about the breed and for all the encouragement through good and bad times.
We also do therapy visits to nursing homes and hospitals when time permits.
I am currently a member of Evansville Kennel Club, The Siberian Husky Club of America, The Lake Shore Siberian Husky Club, and The Siberian Husky Club of Middle Tenneesee. I have the pleasure of doing several local dog clubs web pages.
The end of the 1999 show season was not a good one for us. On the way home from the Springfield Illinois shows a man tried to steal the motorhome with two of the dogs inside, Bandit and Kristi. I tried to talk him out of taking the dogs but he took off in the motorhome dragging me several feet before the rear tires rolled over my right side. We got a late start in 2000 due to the accident but with the help of wonderful friends we were able to have the dogs shown. Our first Best In Show (Bandit) came in October of 2000 almost one year to the date of the accident. A very proud and happy moment for us!
Bandit now has several Champion kids and a UKC Best in Show granddaughter who we are very proud of. Our thanks go to Heather Piniak for taking such good care of Eddie and Sierra.
