31. Did your family have a favorite saying? What was it, and how did you feel about it?
When growing up every one was called a fruit. It was funny to hear that, but I always felt in my heart it wasn't right.
32. Did your family have a favorite meal or recipe? Could you share the recipe with us?
Dad had his chilli sauce recipe. He and mom would make it and can it at the end of every summer.
Here is the recipe for my dad's Chili Sauce
2 quarts of ripe medium tomatoes
2 red or green peppers chopped
2 onions chopped fine
2 cups vinegar
1/2 cup sugar
1 t. salt
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
2 tsp celery salt
1. Blanch tomatoes in boiling water until skin loosens.
2. Remove skins and stem ends. Chop tomatoes and put into kettle with peppers and onions.
3. Heat gradually to point, add vinigar, vinegar salt and spices. Then cook in big kettle slowly until quite thick 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
4. Pour into sterilized jars. Seal then cool.
33. Do you have a family heirloom? What is it and what will you do with it?
Can't think of one off hand
34. Do you have a funny family story you can share?
The only one I can think of right now is when Wes and I were little. Mom and Dad took us fishing someplace where there were many huge rocks. We played and had a fun time. At some point while mom and dad were fishing, Wes and I decided we had to go to the bathroom (#2). We thought it would be fun to go on every rock that we could. Mom wasn't very happy with us to say the least.
35. What is your favorite color? Do you prefer silver or gold?
My favorite color has always been green. I love silver, but break out in a rash when I wear it. So, I wear gold to avoid the discomfort.
36. Who gave you your name and why? Did you have a nickname? How did you get it?
My mom named me. As a child she would name her dolls Heidi. She also liked the book Heidi of the Alps. My nickname is Hide. I guess it is just short for Heidi. Mom and dad always called me that when I was a "good girl". It just stuck.
37. Tell us a memory of your childhood.
My fondest memories of childhood, were the times we would go up to visit grandma and grandpa Harris' in Harrisena. There was always a pretty good chance you would see your cousins there. Grandma would always let us go into the pantry and get a cookie. Sometimes we would go into great grandma's to visit. If she was sitting on the front porch, we would go out onto the front hill and roll down to the bottom. We would go out into the fields / pastures to run and play and explore. There were many carefree, happy times. I can remember winters going into the fields to slide down Dead Man's Hill on the toboggan. It was the biggest hill out in the pasture and the snow was normally up to your waist. It was so much fun.
38. Tell us a memory of your teenage years.
I have to be honest and tell you I don't have many fond memories of my teenage years. I was always the kid that the bullies picked on. The bullies were the teachers, the students, friends and many adults including aunts and uncles, etc... I was called fatty, lard ass, tubby, ugly and anything that relates to all those mean things. Somehow I survived and have worked hard in the last four years to undo the wounds of my teenage years. I am very proud of the work I have been doing to build up my self esteem. It is a daily commitment.
39. Tell us an experience you had as a parent.
