Harris is a descendant of Moses Harris Jr., whose life is depicted in the book that contains history, romance, intrigue, genealogy, and photos.
Mose Harris Jr. was a trusted courier for the British army, but was actually serving the patriot cause as a spy for Gens. Washington and Schuyler.  Harris was instrumental in getting vital information to Gen. Schuyler and Gen. Gates that helped win the Battles of Saratoga, the turning point in the war for Independence.
Harris was born and lived most of his life in Harrisena.  He hunted and fished in the same areas represented in the book.
A grant for 200 acres of this land was given to Moses Harris Jr. for his service as a spy.  The grant passed from father to eldest son.
Philip and his eldest son James, donated the original grant to the Chapman Historical Museum in 1983 for preservation.
