Those Weird Things present:
KRULL
In 1983, Columbia Pictures released a fantasy film titled Krull. It's the story of Prince Colwyn (Ken Marshall) trying to save his bride, Princess Lyssa (Lysette Anthony) from the Beast and his Slayers. He's helped by Ynyr, the old one; Ergo, a hapless shapeshifter; Rhell the Cyclops; Titch, young apprentice of the Emerald Seer; as well as Torquil and his band of escaped criminals (amongst them Kegan, played by a younger Liam Neeson). On his way Colwyn finds the legendary Glaive, a weapon of great power.
I first saw this movie on the big screen when it was released in the summer of '83 (the same year as Return of the Jedi) A year or two later I saw it again at school on video. When it came out on cable I taped it and watched it whenever I felt like it until we got rid of the Beta...Since then I've found the movie again on video.
Merchandising
Of course, since the movie came out in 1983, there isn't an abundance of Krull merchandise to buy today. You can buy the movie on video and the soundtrack on CD. To the best of my knowledge, the novelization by Alan Dean Foster is out of print, but there are always used book stores to look into. For those of you looking for period merchandise, there's the Krull board game by Parker Bros, Marvel's comic book adaptation, an Atari 2600 game cartridge, and for those with big wallets, a Krull arcade machine. Most of these items can be found on E-Bay, and possibly more.
