Storyline Information
  • Frank Ryan, a candidate for city counsel, was found at the bottom of a flight of stairs in Riverside Hospital. He was carrying $6,000 for unknown reasons, and, after being taken into an operating room, the money disappeared. Frank was in a coma for a long stretch of time, and, when he finally regained consciousness, he was temporarily paralyzed. It was later revealed that his neurotic wife, Delia Reid, had pushed him down the stairs after learning that Frank wanted to leave her and marry his mistress, Jillian Coleridge; the $6000 was hush money he was going to pay Roger Coleridge, who threatened to expose Frank's affair.

  • Roger Coleridge was in debt to shady Nick Szabo due to a gambling problem he had. Roger used the blackmail money to pay Nick; however, Nick eventually forced Roger to reveal information about Jill and Frank's affair. After Frank won the election for city council, Nick spread his newly acquired information throughout Riverside in order to ruin Frank. Delia saved Frank's political career by telling Frank's political party leaders that Frank and Delia would remained married - therefore trapping Frank into a marriage devoid of love with her!

  • Doctors Patrick Ryan, Bucky Carter, and Faith Coleridge all began working in the neurology department of Riverside Hospital in July 1975. Bucky fell for Faith; however, she was afraid of starting a relationship with him. However, Faith had no problem with hooking up with Pat; he later dumped her after she became too clingy.
  • Bucky's aunt, Nell Beaulac, came to Riverside, where she got a job at Riverside Hospital. Many people disliked her due to her abrasive manner; however, Ed Coleridge (father of Jill, Roger, and Faith) began to see her regularly. Meanwhile, her husband, Seneca Beaulac, came to town looking for her - she had suddenly left their home in Minnesota without telling him. He also got a job at the hospital as head of neurology - a job which had originally been promised to Ed. Nell tried her best to avoid Seneca; however, it was finally revealed that the reason she had left him was because she had two potentially fatal aneurysms.

  • Mary Ryan began dating Jack Fenelli, a reporter who was not well-liked by her family. The two had a very stormy relationship at first, and there were often times where they were at each other's throats. Mary lost her virginity to Jack in November 1975, which greatly upset her Catholic parents, Maeve and Johnny Ryan.

  • After the truth about the aneurysms came out, Nell and Seneca began to reconcile. However, one of her aneurysms burst. Fortunately, Seneca saved her. This incident made her eminent death much more real for Nell, and she started to come to grips with her sad condition.
  • Frank wanted to resume his relationship with Jill; however, she refused. She didn't want to come between Delia and Frank anymore, despite Frank's adamant claims that he didn't love Delia.

  • New lab technician Kenneth Castle began to become very infatuated with Faith, who he thought resembled his deranged mother.

  • After Ed informed Seneca about Roger's gambling problem (and his blackmailing of Frank), Seneca decided that Roger would no longer work for the hospital after his contract ran out in June 1976.
