Amanda Kirkland was the daughter of Hollis Kirkland III and Catsy Kirkland. When she came to New York, she became involved with Pat Ryan; the two met in unlikely circumstances when Pat was accidentally broke her car's window while playing baseball. During this relationship, Pat discovered that Amanda had once spent time in a psychiatric clinic. The two soon realized that something in Amanda's past had triggered her psychiatric problems. When her mother, Catsy, comes to New York, she drugs Amanda in order to keep her from remembering what happened in the past. Pat and Amanda, however, persevered. Pat hired a man to impersonate Kirk's former business partner, Will Brader, in front of Amanda, which caused Amanda to remember that she had shot Brader to death ten years ago after he had accused her father of embezzlement! She had blocked the horrible incident from her conscious memory; however, it still had its effects on her mental stability. After discovering this, her parents made her go to Switzerland for treatment. Amanda, however, missed Pat, so she returned to Riverside, got a job at Pat's Riverside Clinic, and resumed her relationship with him. However, she now had a rival in the form of Faith Coleridge. When Amanda saw them embracing, she almost accidentally drowned when she took tranquilizers, got into her bathtub, and drank wine. Pat saved her and reassured her that he really loved her. Amanda soon realized that she has become too dependent upon Pat and decided to leave Riverside and go to San Francisco, where she hoped to be a more independent person.

Very wealthy Catsy Kirkland came to New York City after she found out that her daughter, Amanda, was taking steps to remember her past. Catsy didn't want Amanda to remember her past, because Amanda had killed an acquaintance of her father�s! When Catsy finally arrived in NYC, she discovered that her estranged husband, Hollis, wanted a divorce so he could marry Rae Woodard. Catsy became determined to force Hollis into staying with her. Meanwhile, Catsy drugged Catsy to make her appear more physically and mentally ill than she really was. The drugging caused Amanda to end up in the hospital, and Catsy made plans for Amanda and her to go to Switzerland. However, Catsy�s plan go awry. Amanda and Dr. Pat Ryan continue to try to uncover her past, and, while under hypnosis, Amanda revealed she killed the man because he had accused her father of embezzling money from one of Catsy's holdings. When Catsy found out, she blackmailed Hollis -- either Hollis was goes with her to Switzerland or she was going to tell the authorities about the embezzlement! Knowing that Catsy could put him behind bars, Hollis was forced to leave Rae. Soon afterwards, Catsy, Hollis, and Amanda left for Switzerland.

Rich and powerful Hollis Kirkland III was brought on during the summer of 1982 when he learned that he had fathered a child during an affair with Rae Woodard -- Kimberly Harris! When Kim found out, she was overjoyed and wanted to become a Kirkland just like her father. Rae and Hollis also decided that they wanted to rekindle their romance -- and get married. Unfortunately, soon after they made this decision, Hollis' estranged wife, Catsy, came into town. Hollis asked her for a divorce, but Catsy was determined not to let him go. After their mentally unstable daughter, Amanda, confessed to killing a man who threatened to tell everyone that Hollis was embezzling money from Catsy's holdings, Catsy issued him an ultimatum: either he leaves with Amanda and her to go to Switzerland or she'll inform the authorities that he was embezzling money from her holdings. Knowing that Catsy's information could put him in jail, Hollis left Rae and went to Switzerland with Catsy and Amanda.

Leigh Kirkland Fenelli (Felicity LaFortune)KIRKLAND FENELLI, Leigh

Leigh Kirkland, daughter of Hollis and Catsy Kirkland, was first seen when she encountered Jack Fenelli at the Kirkland house. Jack instantly noticed something special about her, and soon they began to get into a serious relationship with one another. They grew very close, although at times Jack could be distant due to memories of his first wife, Mary. Leigh bought a television station and offered Jack a news anchor job; however, Jack turned her down on principle. However, he soon reconsidered her offer and took on the anchor job. Leigh and Jack almost got engaged; however, he fell for the temptations of reporter Sydney Price and slept with her, causing Leigh and Jack's relationship to end. Shortly afterwards, Leigh sold half of the television station to Jeremy Winthrop. Towards the end of 1984, with things between her and Jack long over, Leigh decided to sell the television station and leave New York. After selling it to Chris Whitesell in early 1985, she left New York. In early 1988, Leigh returned to New York and once again became Jack's boss. Their romance was rekindled; this time, however, it did not end. Jack and Leigh became engaged, and on January 13th, 1989 (the final episode), Jack Fenelli and Leigh Kirkland were finally married.

KNOWLES, Ox

Ox Knowles was a race car driver and the husband of Elizabeth Jane Ryan. Although they had been separated for numerous years preceding his arrival in Riverside in early 1982, they had never legally divorced. Elizabeth Jane was planning her marriage to wealthy Roger Coleridge and was very much shocked by his sudden arrival. E.J. gave Ox a pearl necklace Roger had given her as an engagement present so he would get a divorce from her. In the end, E.J. was not able to go through with her wedding to Roger and confessed the truth about Ox to him. Ox briefly considering rekindling his romance with Elizabeth Jane after he won a big car race, but she turned him down and left Riverside. After E.J.'s departure, Ox began involved in many of Delia Coleridge's schemes concerning her Crystal Palace restaurant and even started to have a relationship with her. However, Delia ended it in early 1983, and Ox left town.
