During the rent strike, the owners of the building became disgruntled, and Ethel was even mugged at one point. In another incident, Siobhan and Jack were locked up in the building's boiler room, which almost blew-up with them in it if it hadn't been for Ethel helping them out. It was soon discovered that building's owners, C&P Realty, had several criminal ties. After this fact became public, some members of C&P Realty were indicted, and conditions at the apartment building finally began to improve.

Scott Holmes (1984-1985)
Dave Greenberg's family owned Greenberg's Deli. After saving Maggie Shelby from a thug named Rico, Dave gave her a waitressing job at the deli. Soon afterwards, Maggie was kicked out of the place she was staying by her half-sister, so Dave let her live in a loft above the deli. Their relationship soon grew as they began dating. Rico also became a part of their 'family' at the deli; Dave planned to adopt him. They became engaged; however, she had to break it off while she was helping the police get information from Max Dubujack. After her situation with Max was over, Maggie and Dave reunited and once again planned to get married. They hoped to gain custody of Rico; however, he decided to return to his mother. Afterwards, Dave slowly began to realize that it wasn't Maggie he loved --- he loved Katie Thompson, who had moved into the loft with Maggie and him. Still, Dave and Maggie were married in 1985, because she claimed she was pregnant. Before long, though, Dave divorced Maggie and married Katie. The two made an off-Broadway play together, with Katie playing the lead role with Dave composing the music. The two later left Riverside together.

All this negative publicity hurt Frank's campaign, so he was forced to drop-out of the political race. With his career in shambles, Frank became more determined than ever to find out the truth behind her. He even had her kidnapped and questioned, but he was unable to get information from her. After he released her, Charlotte skipped town. Afterwards, it was revealed to the audience that Rae Woodard had paid Charlotte to ruin Franks career -- but that wasnt the only reason. Charlottes parents, Neil and Una MacCurtain, had a vendetta against Maeve Ryans family, the Collearys. Neil and Una lured Maeve and Frank to a deserted dock, where a mentally unbalanced Una shot Frank. Charlotte became frightened by her mother and fled the scene, never to be heard from again.
