Jack Fenelli (Michael Levin)FENELLI, Jack
Portrayer:
Michael Levin (1975-1989)
Sarcastic and distant, Jack Fenelli was supposedly orphaned at a young age when his parents died in a fire. He was raised at the Good Shepard orphanage, where he grew close to a nun named Sister Mary Joel. Unfortunately, Sister Mary Joel eventually left, but they kept in touch. Jack eventually ended up working on the docks of New York, where a fellow worker named Jumbo Marino became like a father to him. Later on, after serving in the army during the Vietnam War, he became a journalist. Jack first became entangled in the lives of the Ryans when he wrote an article about Frank Ryan, who was running for public office at the time. While writing his article, he met Frank's youngest sister, Mary Ryan, and became involved with her. They had a tumultuous relationship. However, they became engaged and married during the summer of 1976. Unfortunately, soon afterwards, Jack was involved in a very serious car accident and nearly died. He became even more distant and chose to separate from Mary; he felt he was not worthy of her. Mary gave birth to his child, Ryan Fenelli, shortly afterwards. He appeared to want no part in Ryan's life, although he did secretly visit her in the park. Thankfully, Mary's mother, Maeve, was able to reunite them by locking them up in a basement together. The two reunited and remarried in December 1977; they went to Ireland on their honeymoon. The rest of Mary and Jack's marriage was relatively calm, although he did almost have an affair with her sister, Siobhan, due to Mary constantly being away from home. Sadly, in December 1979, Mary was killed by the mob. Jack was grief-stricken but became determined to find out the truth behind his wife's death. When he did, the mob retaliated by trying to ruin his career and even attempted to murder him; however, he won over them. In 1983, he met a woman by the name of Leigh Kirkland. The two soon grew close, and Jack even became a news anchor on her television station. However, the romance fizzled. Following the years after his relationship with Leigh, Jack dated many women, such as Emily Hall. When Leigh returned to New York in early 1988, he resumed his relationship with her. The two soon grew close once again and became engaged. Meanwhile, he found out something shocking Sister Mary Joel was his real mother! He had been the result of an affair she had with mobster Silvio Conti. After Jack grew to accept this, he married Leigh in the show's final episode.

In 1985, a teenaged Ryan began to fall in love with Rick Hyde. The two eloped the next year, but their marriage did not last. Meanwhile, Ryan became very interested in writing, much like her father. She began to find love again towards the end of the series when she grew closer to her friend, Chaz Saybrook.

Dan, however, was not willing to let her slip through his arms after all, she hadn't paid back a loan he had given her. After Roger walked in on Delia in a compromising position with Dan (he had unzipped her dress), Roger told Delia their marriage was over.
