ABORIGINAL STATEHOOD
RECONCILIATION... Has been the opportunity for Australians to admit to
the wrongs of the past and on behalf of ourselves and our European ancestors to
say SORRY;
Unfortunately, discrimination
and exploitation of the Australian Aborigines continues.
The whole terrible scenario
continues to be played out, even today, in the remote North West of Australia.
The reader is urged
to beg, borrow
or steal a copy of the Weekend Australia July 28/29 2001 or read the extract
from Paul Toohey's report on
the last of our nomads.
Although written in 2001, it is still relevant today in 2008 and until the issues of reconciliation with the Aboriginal peoples are addressed and resolved by the Australian Governments.
RESTITUTION... IS THE NEXT STEP IN PROVING THAT WE ARE SORRY AND THAT
WE MEAN IT!
RESTORATION... The recommendation supporting an Independent State of
Central Australia and returning to its rightful custodians the last piece
of un-leased, uninhabited land left on this continent is a way forward.
Over thirty years ago, lease over the state of Tasmania ran out...that
would have been the time for us to make our move to have Tasmania declared an
INDIGENOUS STATE and to make amends for its history of genocide.
