| Permelia Victoria Winslett* OBITUARY The Madisonian, 7 Feb. 1936: AGED LADY PASSES NEAR BROWNWOOD MRS. ROE COPELAN DIES TUESDAY AFTER SHORT ILLNESS. BURIAL AT GREENSBORO. Tuesday at her home near Centennial church occurred the death of Mrs. Roe Copelan at the advanced age of 82 years. She had only been sick a few days, and death came about as a result of breakdown of the vital forces. Funeral was held Thursday at noon at the Hemperley chapel, services conducted by Rev. W. S. Adams and Rev. Zach Hayes. Interment was in the Greensboro cemetary, Hemperley Undertaking Co. in charge. The deceased was born of an old and distinguished Putnam county family -- the Winsletts. As Miss Parmelia Winslett she married Mr. Roe Copelan in early life. He survives her with three sons -- Cary C. Copelan, of Griffin, Thad Copelan, Madison, and Alcester Copelan, Rutledge. A brother, Mr. Arthur Winslett, lives in Greensboro. The deceased was a member of the Greensboro Baptist church and was greatly loved by all who knew her. The Madisonian , 7 Feb. 1936: "GRANDMA COPELAN" How shocked and saddened the people of the little community of Brownwood were when the word was told that "Grandma" Copelan was dead. To everybody here she was loved and called "Grandma." She and "Grandpa" had walked together for sixty-three years. They came in to our midst something like twenty years ago. Since then they have been lovingly known to everybody as "Grandma" and "Grandpa." The end came so quietly and peacefully that those watching hardly knew when she left, on Tuesday afternoon about 3:30 at her home. The subject of our sketch was Miss Parmelia Victoria Winslett, of Putnam county, born there Feb. 18, 1854. In November 1872 she was happily married to Mr. Roe Copelan, of Greene county. to this union was born four boys and one girl, one son and daughter preceded her to the glory world.
