I painted this painting a few weeks after the events of September 11, 2001. The sailboats, one with the flag at half mast, rest peacefully in the marina under an ominous sky. Despite the turmoil of our world, peace and tranquility are still here in our midst. All we have to do is take the time to seek peace and quiet. My paintings reflect my lifelong search for peace and meaning to life.
Water and, then, light were the first things that existed in the Creation stories of most cultures from the beginnings of time. Our bodies consist primarily of water and it is well known that we become depressed and disoriented when deprived of light. God's love also has been expressed time and time again in images of water and light. Is it any wonder that we are drawn to them subconsciously within our spirit and that images of water and light fill my paintings? It is through this imagery of water and light that I invite you to meditate and find peace. |
