| Post Passover Bagel Party | ||||||||||||||
| The Jewish Fraternity Sorority Councils first real event was the Post Passover Bagel Party, held at AEPi. This program was held the last night of Passover, so that all of the students would begin eating hametz together. Originally, we had planned on it being the Post Passover Pizza Party, but no kosher restaurants were opening until the day after Passover ended. The only place that was open was Dunkin Donuts, so we got bagels and donuts. I would recommend holding this event again, but maybe making it a Pre Passover Pizza Party because students prefer pizza rather than bagels. Despite these difficulties, the program was still successful, with between 20-30 students in attendance. However, the majority of the students were from AEPi and DG, and our goal is to branch out to more chapters. Program Title: Post Passover Bagel Party Program Summary: For all Jewish students in the fraternities and sororities to come together in eating hametz at the end of Passover. We all gathered at AEPi and ate bagels and doughnuts and held an informal conversation about our Passover celebrations and how easy/hard it was to observe Passover that year. Program Description: We wanted to host this event in a place that was comfortable to the students in the fraternities and sororities and AEPi graciously opened up their beautiful new home to us. There is a comfortable seating area on the side of the kitchen and all of the students sat around eating and chatting. This was our first program hosted by the JFSC, so we let the students know about its new existence and got their feedback on what theyd like to see happen in the future. Date: Thursday, April 4, 2002 7-9PM Goals of Program: To help start up the Jewish Fraternity Sorority Council and provide an environment for students to end Passover together. Meet Goals? Why or why not? Yes and no. The number of students that we expected to turn out did come to the event, but they were predominantly from the same two houses that had attended the other events. However, everyone who came had a good time and had a great time. Type of Progam: social Program planned for: Greeks Why planned: to engage new people, to bring attention to Passover Receive grants: no How far ahead start planning: 3 weeks to plan out the program with the students and have adequate time for publicity How much time involved: 5 hours for planning meetings and picking up the food People involved in planning: JCSC fellow, four students on executive board of JFSC (Michelle, Jason, Courtney, Julie) People who help implement: 4; JCSC, Jason, Courtney, Julie Expected Attendance: 20-40 Actual Attendance: 20-30 Budget: $60 for food Forms of publicity: flyers in houses and in OFSA mailboxes and on OFSA bulletin board, classified ad in Greek Forum of Targum, word of mouth Location of event: AEPi House, 4 Union Street Impact of program? Students enriched?: Even for students who did not traditionally observe Passover, it was a great way for them to recognize the holiday in a way that was comfortable and social. For those that did observe the holiday, because they were finally able to eat bread again (and for FREE) this was the best program ever created! All of the students had a good time and bonded with each other. |
