The “Rousskiye Uzory” Dance Ensemble was founded in 1998 by
Natalia Chatilova in the Russian
School of St. Nicholas Cathedral, Montreal. Since that modest beginning,
the Ensemble has grown and now includes not only children from the
parish school, but also university and college students.
The Ensemble’s repertoire features classical and new productions
of traditional Russian dances such as folklore, quadrille, round dances
and comedy-satire. Every year “Rousskiye Uzory” gives Christmas and
Easter concerts, as well as performing at various festivals and cultural
events.
Past performances include the
DRUMMONDVILLE International
Arts Festival, the La Fete des Enfants de Montreal Children’s
Day and
Canada Day, Winnipeg
International Festival .
In
addition to its regular annual presentations, the Ensemble gave two solo
concerts at the Mosaique culturel Exhibition, performed at the “Entrons
dans la danse” celebrations of Quebec culture, and participated in a
Youth Workshop organized by La Societe du patrimoine d”expression du
Quebec”.
