WHY COMPUTERS?

For persons who are disabled, isolation is a major component of life. Chemical/Electromagnetic injured persons are disproportionately
affected, as the barriers to their access to employment, education,
governmental, and social facilities are not easily removed.
The barriers are common toxins, are pervasive in our modern culture.

Thanks to the Americans with Disabilities Act there are curb cuts for
mobility impaired, readers for vision impaired and TTY's for hearing
impaired , but Americans seriously  impacted by adverse environmental  factors are still awaiting change and accommodation.  The Access Board that sets policy for the ADA has acknowledged the extensive issues for chemical/EM intolerant persons and is planning to undertake research
on methods for improving indoor air quality  in public facillities.

This is a step forward,  but until there is regulation of harmful
chemicals  in personal care products, and regulation of cleaning
products, pesticides, and a host of other  toxic chemicals that
ermeate public and private buildings, there will remain a high rate
of exclusion for this class of  disabled persons.  For many,
their exclusion is akin to being under quarantine .  Without the
ability to interact  safely  in public, they are home-bound.

With the goals of enhancing overall functioning and furthering
employability, education and social support,  RDAF. has developed
and implemented a Computer Donation Program.

As January, 2009, over 200  computers have been given
to individuals.  For those who are able to tolerate computers
at all, this opens up a whole new world.
These computers are donated by individuals and businesses.  Our
computer tech/volunteers refurbishe the equipment, add upgraded components, install basic software and off they go.

RDAF does  not charge for these donated computers, and we deliver
them locally.  We have sent some out of our area;
however, we cannot cover packaging and shipping costs.

Placing these units locally with chemically/EM injured persons is our
highest prioritiy.  Extra units are placed with other disabled persons,
both adults and children, with non-profit organizations and with
Arizona Native American Nations.
